Not made well – low quality

I received this Jack in the Box damaged so I had to return it but I was happy in the long run. After opening & being disappointed it had become bent on 2 sides of the metal box which houses the teddy bear that pops out. It worked ok until you try to poke the teddy bear back in. If you don’t have the winder part in the exact position the lid will not close all the way & the child gets frustrated trying to close the lid. My 4 year old has Autism & he has zero patience so the lid not closing would never have worked for us. I’m kinda glad I returned it. I looked & looked for a better made one but they all seem to have the same style clasp lid. I finally just bit the bullet & went old school. I purchased an original 1980’s Sesame Street Big Bird jack in the box. Sometimes you just can’t beat the classic toys.

I had two, and they both broke within a few days

This is a cute jack-in-the box, and my one-year-old daughter loves it. However, I would advise you not to buy it, because it is not durable at all. Both times I’ve tried this jack-in-the-box, it has broken within a few days! The first time, my mother-in-law sent this jack-in-the-box to us as a gift. Within 48 hours of normal use (never being dropped, thrown, etc.), the music cylinder somehow broke. The music became garbled and it sounded dreadful. We had to send it back.My mother-in-law also had one of these at her house for her grandkids to play with. Again, my daughter was delighted to play with it, and again, it broke within a couple of days. This time, the crank simply stopped engaging with the music cylinder at all, so the jack-in-the-box now makes no sound, no matter which way you turn the crank.Even if this toy hadn’t broken, I still would have had a major complaint: the latch that holds the lid closed can easily be pushed open at any point during the song. My curious toddler quickly learned how this worked, and henceforth she would never wait for the song to finish. She’d just pop the lid open, push it closed again, laugh, and repeat. Although she still enjoyed it, that’s not how a jack-in-the-box is supposed to work.So I give this toy one thumb down for design and two thumbs down for durability. I do not recommend it!

My son likes it – always wants to play with it

This is cute and good for the money. Seems to be good quality. He is 10 months old and it’s good for around this age.

I baby is scared of this…but it’s ok

So, my 7th month old is scared of this toy but she is slowly getting over it. The toy is well build with no sharp edges or anything that can scratch or snag. The bear inside is also very soft to the touch. The only issue i have is that it’s not easy to get the bear back into the box and the latch sometimes gives out before the song ends. This is a very minor issue because it servers it’s purpose of a good toy.Things to know before you buy but this shouldn’t discourage you.- Made in China- Alum box

Scary, Out of Tune Music

Ironically, I bought this Jack in the Box because it looked like the friendliest of the bunch, much less ghoulish than some of the other versions, for my 9 month old. But when I first turned the crank, I was aghast at the freakishly haunting and heinously out of tune version of Pop Goes The Weasel which emerged from this thing. To be specific, the melody is pretty much in tune, but the chords that play in the background are ill-timed and terribly dissonant, more apropos for a haunted house or house of mirrors, as opposed to sweet little babies. Yes, I am a musician–but my husband isn’t, and it even spooked him and he immediately asked me to stop. Super creepy. Too bad, because the rest of it is pretty cute. Still looking for a good one.

SO OFF KEY!!!

I had to return this because the music was so off key. Visually, it is perfect and not scary like some jack in the boxes. The little bear is very cute and soft to touch. When you turn the crank, the mechanical parts move smoothly. It’s too bad that the same care was not used to be sure that the music was pleasant to hear. If a jack in the box has music that is unpleasant, it pretty much defeats the purpose of having it, so all the other positives about the toy are moot.

Kids love

My toddler loves this toy. She can’t turn the crank yet, but waits for the bear to pop up when someone else turns it. Then she hugs it and tries to "free it" from the box. It’s a hoot! And she really just delights in it.

Non SCARY Jack in the Box!

My husband wanted to get our daughter a Jack in the Box for her birthday. I didn’t want to get one of those SCARY CLOWN ones and freak my little girl out. So, I found this one and she loved it! It has the perfect amount of SURPRISE for her, without making her cry.
