Oh did I do research on this product read the good and bad reviews but decided to go ahead and get it anyway. Oh it was horrible! At least I gave it a try. The top is TOP HEAVY. It does NOT open all the way which makes my 2 yr old son being able to take out the coins on his own impossible. It smashed his hand every time he tried to retrieve the toys. The volume is almost non-existent I can barely hear it even when the room is completely quite. So disappointed so many flaws! I returned it right away. Do not recommend. I purchased Fisher Price’s Piggy Bank instead. Love it & used by professionals universally!
Top heavy and very quiet
The design of this is, as others have mentioned, pretty poor. The top of the chest is very heavy, my child cannot get the top open herself to get the coins out. It also doesn’t open all the way so you can’t even reach in to get the coins out. The volume is also very low on it, it can be hard to hear. Also there should be more coins with it. The only pro are the different modes…colors, shapes and counting. Over all I’m disappointed
Make no mistake, this is a colorful toy that was created with good intentions. It has some neat music and some parts light up.However, major design flaws outweigh any positives. First, the toy is extremely top heavy. This makes it prone to being knocked over backward and providing it with good potential energy…should it be placed precariously on the edge of a piece of furniture (as toddlers have a propensity to do). Second, the lid barely even opens…unless the lid comes off the main body, which it is prone to do. This, of course, spills the contents and requires an adult to put it back on. Third, the coin-recognition mechanism makes errors, as it judges based on coin size. As with toddlers, sometimes the coin isn’t put perfectly into the slot, and it thinks the coin is wider than it really is.This toy REALLY needs to be re-designed. Make the bottom heavier, allow the box to actually open, and refine how the chest recognizes a coin.
My 8 month old loves it!
My little boy loves this! Although he does seem to enjoy the coins more than the actual chest. 🙂 So it doubles as a toy and a teether in our house!
great for fine motor skills
My daughter got this for her first birthday(17 mo currently), she likes dancing to the music and we love that It’s trilingual like all other BE products. It’s good quality and so sturdy it didn’t brake when she throws it! We would buy this again as a gift!
The Kids like it, but not as a learning tool
I bought this toy for my youngest son’s first birthday, in part because it’s supposed to teach colors and numbers in English, French, and Spanish. He has the counting piggy bank and loves putting items into something, then dumping them out. This is similar to the piggy bank, but WAY TOO QUIET to teach him anything. If there is anything – and I mean ANYTHING – else going on in the room you can’t hear anything the speaker says on this toy. As with a number of recent toy releases, the demo mode in the store is the loudest setting, but once out of demo, this toy is too quiet to be of use in a house with other children in it. The lid is top heavy, but I just place the toy backwards in front of the baby so that he can’t open the lid and tip it over.. He doesn’t mind and prefers this to the constant tipping he otherwise would deal with. My nearly 3 year old likes counting, naming the various colors and shapes on the coins, and the music. But he can’t hear the colors, shapes or numbers in Spanish or French, so he won’t be learning them from this toy as I’d hoped. My 4 year old thinks it’s cool because it’s a pirate’s chest. So when he has a chance he plays pirates with it. He has complained over and over that he can’t hear what it’s saying. I also just noticed that it only counts to 5 and if the coins are not put in really quickly, it will start over at one before it even reaches 5!My boys do enjoy playing with this toy so I gave it 2 stars instead of 1. But I bought it mostly because it was supposed to be a teaching toy. With the sound issues, I could have just bought a treasure chest and let them dump their blocks in and out of that.
My daughter LOVES this
This is one of my 7 month old’s favorite toys. We saw it at a friend’s home a month ago and she had such an interest in it I went home and ordered it for her. She really loves the lights and music and has fun taking the coins out of the box and just chewing on them and tapping them together.
