You get what you pay for
This is my second Britax car seat and I still love the brand. It’s so easy to install and compared to Evenflo Titan, Eddie Bauer and Maxi Cosi. My other Britax was a Marathon and my son was in it until he was 3. I know the price is a little steep but it’s worth it because of the max weight capacity and ease of installation. My only disappointment is the max weight capacity in the rear facing position. The max is 20 pounds whereas the Maxi Cosi Prior’s max weight in the rear facing position is 35 pounds. This is something to consider before you purchase the Roundabout.
easy to install and fits nicely in my RAV4
I have only had this installed for a few days, but so far so good. I was easy to install and fits nicely in my RAV4. I have it rear facing and can slide the seat all the way back. My 20lb, 9 month old fits nicely and seems comfy. I don’t anticipate any problems, except I am a little concerned about the cover not being machine washable, but I guess I will just throw it in the bathtub with some warm water and detergent when we need to, and hope that it dries by morning.update: 2 months later I still think this seat is great. The latch clips are really easy to install.
Safe, reliable seat with top tier customer service
This car seat is the best! Using the latch system, when installed correctly the seat doesn’t budge at all. Britax customer service is top tier as well. I broke one of the hard foam inserts, and they sent me replacements no questions asked and without cost. I bought this car seat 2 years ago. I will recommend this brand to any and all.
Great car seat but…
We had to go ahead and move our 6 month old daugher up to convertible car seat and with all the great reviews about Britax and the smaller footprint of the Roundabout than many others, which we needed due to our smaller car (2 door G6)it seemed the logical choice. Overall I am really happy with our decision but there are a few things I wish were a bit different.Pros:-Great material, soft and plush and cleans up easily.-Love the velcro on the straps that holds them to the side of the chair to make them easier to get when putting the baby in.- Like the padding around the crotch strap, for a girl not a huge thing but probably great for a little guy.- Feels solid and well constructed I can easily see this lasting thru 2 or 3 kids.-As I mentioned it has one of the smaller footprints of the large convertible carseats. Even rearfacing we actually got back quite a bit of front leg room space when we put this in and took out our Snugrider.Cons:- The location of the reclining mechanism is terrible, if you have the carseat rear facing you abslolutely can not adjust the recline without uninstalling the whole seat since the mechanism is jammed up against the seat of your car when installed and thus inaccessible.- While I know that the raised sides are better for side impact protection they make getting an infant in and out while the seat is rear facing much harder than it should be. I’m sure it will be fine once she is front facing but for the mean time it is frankly a pain.- The Latch mechanism, I would much rather have just a simple little hook like I did on my old Graco Snugrider than these awkward trigger latchs they have on the Roundabout. Unfortunatly with leather bucket seats it is really hard to manuever the thicker latch mechanism into place between the back and bottom of the seat of our car.Overall a great carseat and I think we got a great deal!
this car seat is on the big side, just know that. I have it rear facing right now and it takes up a lot of space. I own a honda civic.I also wish that all the extra cushioning had some way of being more secure in the seat, i always have to re-adjust it because when i pull my baby out all the bolstering gets out of place. I took off the seat belt straps because they were bulky and i felt like he was closterphobic in the summer with so many layers of cushion all around.things i love are the coloring, I cover the seat when not in use so i dont know if it gets hot in the sun because its black, i dont have that issueit was easy for my husband to installi feel like it is secure and comfortable for my baby and the buckles are easy for me to adjust and stay in placeIm happy overall with this carseat and i would buy it all over again. made the right choice and I would reccomend
great car seat
This has been a great car seat for both of my boys. very comfortable and durable. washes up nicely and looks just as good today as when I bought it 3 years ago.
Of course like many new moms I spent hours researching car seats and reading reviews over and over again to determine which car seat would be the best for me. I landed on this britax after a very long search. It had great reviews and for most convertible car seats, a sensible price. The GOOD: The material is of high quality and comfy, despite the fact that it looks large (most convertible car seats are) it fit very well in my nissan sentra. It has velcro to hold the straps which helps. It has a protection guard for the part with the button which I really like. It has a base part that has two sturdy “clips” under the seat that secure the car seat belt to prevent it from moving. Very sturdy after installation. Comes with easy straps that attach to car anchors. I think that it will last a long time so it’s worth the price, good investment. Has good crash ratings. The BAD: The sides are really high so it’s an acrobatic show to get my son in. I’ve accidentally bumped his head a couple of times getting him in but I got used to maneuvering around it. Once he is forward facing, I don’t think it’ll be an issue. No cup holder meh. Although the fabric is nice, I’m worried how it will fare once I wash it. It’s hard to install at first and I wouldn’t recommend using it for multiple cars because it’s hard to move from one car to another. Which leads me to my four star rating.I bought a second car seat for my husband’s car. After spending this much on this one I got the cheap Cosco Scenera convertible car seat. It’s easy to use, move, has a high crash star rating and my baby seems to be just as comfortable in that one as he does in this one even though the quality of the padding is way cheaper. All in all I recommend it if you can spare the money. I would buy it again but I would also buy the Cosco Scenera one for $40 bucks again too.
Love the Roundabout
Although we bought the Britax Marathon for my wife’s car (our primary vehicle), the Marathon was a very tight fit in my vehicle in the rearward facing position. As a result, we went with the Roundabout for my car. Simply put, it is a great design, easy to install, and my daughter is comfortable and safe. Frankly, in most respects, we like the Roundabout better than the Marathon. The only feature that the Marathon has that we “miss” in this model is the easy slider for changing the should strap height without taking out the Marathon. It is a nice luxury feature, but the Roundabout is easier to get my daughter in/out of and we like the straps better.
My husband is a Certified Carseat Technician for his police department – needless to say, he was pretty picky when it came to getting our son a car seat. We bought this one for him for his first birthday. He’s a little guy (always in the 5th percentile for his weight and about 20th percentile for his height) and he fit perfectly when we moved him to this carseat the week after his first birthday. He’s now almost 19 months old and we still have his rear facing… it’s the safest way to be in the car and he fits just fine still! His legs are a little bent against the backseat but he doesn’t know any different and has never complained. And as my husband says, he’d rather have a son with a broken leg from being rear-facing than a son with a broken neck from the whiplash of being forward-facing if we’re ever in a crash. We’ve owned this for about 7 months now and I’m noticing a little bit of discoloration where my son’s head rests, but you have to look pretty closely to see it. Overall very happy!!
good car seat
I suppose the only fair judgment for a car seat is performance in an accident. Fortunately, I cannot report on that aspect of performance. In the end, it is a good seat: seemingly comfortable, mounts well in rear-facing position, solid buckles and snaps. The instructions are a bit convoluted and difficult to follow upon initial installation but that’s a just a result of all the different permutations of front versus rear facing, LATCH versus belt etc etc.Just wish my car had a LATCH fastener on the floor.
Good second seat
I purchased this seat as my son’s second carseat after he grew too tall for the Chicco KeyFit 30. As of now, I am using this rear facing because it’s safest and his legs are still able to be comfortable. However, I don’t really care for it rear facing. It’s very large and doesn’t sit well in my seat which slants toward the rear of the car. I have reclined it all the way back and still had to put something underneath it to make it level for him. As far as safety and comfort, I think this seat is great. My only other complaint is the straps are not easily adjustable like my other seat was. I would still recommend this seat for anyone transitioning to a convertible from the infant seat (although this one can technically be an infant seat as well) and doesn’t want to spend a ton of money. I believe Britax are the safest, with no other comparable technology in construction.
After doing tons of research Britax came out on top as the best carseat. I find that it feels a lot more secure in the car than a regular babyseat car base. Probably because it snaps into the car in two places specific for car seats, and then you also thread through the seat belt. I will say that the seat belt needs to be attached to the carseat with these plastic snaps in two places, and they are IMPOSSIBLE to lock. I broke my hands trying to do it, and I could only get one snap locked, the other I had to “improvise”, meaning I snapped it with only one part of the seat belt in it, not both pieces of seatbelt. I still feel that it’s securely attached though, I don’t think my daughter is in any danger. I will try and get my husband to look at the second snap at some pointExcept for the “snap issue” I like this carseat a lot. Very plush and comfy, I think my daugher really likes it. Lots of head room for her to move around and see things. It has seat belt covers around the neck area for comfort which are very soft. It has a body pillow that I think it super nice, I slide it up on her back so when she falls asleep she rests her head to the side on it. Very nice product.
Easy enough to install, but very heavy and bulky. It’s fine if you’re planning on putting it in one vehicle and leaving it there, but I wouldn’t recommend trying to switch it from one car to another. Also might be a pretty tight squeeze in a smaller car. Nice, soft padding. Sits up high. We have a Combi Cocorro in our smaller car and I like that carseat better. I would have gotten another one of those, but I read they didn’t work well in SUVs.
I bought this car seat for my IL’s car since my daughter outgrew her carrier. It was very easy to put in and is a good seat. The straps are easy to use and tighten and loosen with ease when taking her out. The protective pad by the buckle is nice and ensures her big baby tummy isn’t squeezed when buckling her in.
So far, so good
I ordered the Britax Roundabout 55 about a month ago for my 7 month old son who had outgrown his infant carseat (Peg Perego 30/30) because of height. I drive a 2007 Civic sedan and was concerned about installing a rear-facing convertible seat in my car, but this one fits quite well. I have it installed behind the front passenger’s seat, which gives my passenger a tad less legroom than desired, but it works for my husband who is 6’3 when he sits there. My son seems comfy in the seat and never complains about getting in the car (he never complained with his infant seat either). I only wish that convertible seats had the sun shade thing like the infant ones do because now I’m having to order those dorky window shades…not an attractive look for my lovely little car!
Very Happy with This Purchase
This seat is very nice. It served its purpose and is apparently comfortable. It is nice that it is reversable. Unfortunately the seat cover is not machine washable.
Great for smaller car-contrary to popular belief!
We already have a Britax Advocate for our Honda Pilot that I absolutely LOVE! When choosing a car seat for our small VW Jetta however, it has been quite a challenge finding a quality seat, with the right Rear Facing weight limits that fit well. We ordered a True Fit by First Years only to realize that you need the big huge headrest attached for it to go above 22lbs rear facing…Well that doesn’t work for our 23 lb 14 month old who I was hoping to keep RF as long as possible until age 2. So, we had to return it..even without the weight limit…I was not impressed with the quality of the seat. I had read reviews that the Roundabout 55 was smaller than the other Britax models. We originally were using our Graco Snugride 35 infant car seat with the base in our Jetta and I tell you, I didn’t even have to adjust the passenger seat to install the Roundabout. It’s the EXACT same size seat to seat. What a relief!! I am so happy with the quality and coziness of this seat. The materials used just outshine any other car seat I’ve seen (in stores or any that we’ve owned). We are so happy with our purchase and will continue to buy Britax models in the future.
Britax Car Seats Give this Grandmother Peace of Mind
I have purchased two of these car seats now for grandchildren. I have strong confidence in their performance. My two youngest live in a large metro area and spend many hours in their car seats.
Great car seat
This is the second convertible car seat we have purchased for our son (10 months old when we switched him to a bigger seat). The first took up a lot more space and we did not like the buckle or the tightening system. We returned and it and after throughly researching all of the reviews and safety facts, we settled on this one. It works great. It doesn’t take up as much room as the previous one we bought and it is very comfy for our son. We took a long trip the week we bought it and we were so pleased with how well it worked. Easy to install, easy to get him in and out, and easy to tighten the straps. The harness even has padding under it which didn’t seem like a big deal until we tried the other seat in which the buckle system went into his stomach in an uncomfortable way. The gray Davenport color is nice and gender neutral. We are going to purchase another for my husbands car. Definitely recommend this!! I know its more money than some others but way worth it.
We love Britax….their products are all wonderful. We feel like out son is extremely safe and secure in this seat…I love how the latches are individual so they can be tightened to the maximum without any sliding or loose feeling. loves it as well. The car seats have held up for over 2 years now and will be used by our daughter very soon.
No complaints; feels sturdy and safe for my son
I was torn between the pricier seats and a less expensive option which seems to have similar safety features. I went with the britax because of its great reviews and I have not been disappointed. I had no problem putting it in my car and adjusting it as my son grows up. I would recommend this britax to a friend.
Trusted Brand, Cute Product
We bought this as kind of a spare seat so that my dad could have one in his car and he gets tons of compliments on it. We buy only Britax and chose this because it is safe, cute, and affordable.
We’ve tried a lot of carseats and this one is by far our favorite. It’s easy to install and uninstall, it’s simple, it’s beautiful, and it keeps our baby safe. From newborn to baby number 2 this carseat has been a godsend. It’s easy to clean as well! If you aren’t sure what carseat to get, get this one! It lasts a long time and is comfortable for the babies.
