so cute and easy!
We have been using cloth diapers for our baby for 6 weeks now, we started as soon as we got home from the hospital. Our set included all pocket diapers from a few big brands, bumgenius were our favorite. I ordered these because I wanted a few idiot proof cloth diapers to bring to the grandparents house, something they could wash and just put on baby and these are it!!They wash great, and retain their shape perfectly. The grandparents who have never used cloth, and were against me using cloth changed their opinions when i showed them these!
For real, WAY better than pocket diapers
My wife and I are new to the baby thing but wanted to do cloth diapers. Our first batch was a cheapo pocket diaper set from e-bay that was given to us. Couldn’t stand them – leaky and the buttons kept popping off. Then we ordered a few of the bumGenius pocket diapers. They were great, but we thought “What if we’re missing something great with these all in one diapers?” So we ordered one.I’m telling you, if you are thinking about cloth diapers, this is most definitely the way to go. No poopy pockets to pull out. Just take it off the baby, spray the poo off into the toilet, and you’re done. Wash and dry the whole thing, and when it’s done, there is no stuffing those pesky inserts back in. Couldn’t be easier. If you’re on the fence, jump to the all-in-one side.
I Wanted to Love It.
I have twin boys, and a lot of cloth diapers. When the Bumgenius “Freetime” came out, I was very excited. I immediately bought some, but I have to say that they have become the diaper that I shuffle to the bottom of my stash. They are so cute, especially with the “Albert” pattern, but I just can’t get them to function reliably. What I love about this diaper is that it has the sturdy snaps that are common on BG diapers, and because the absorbent material is sewn into place, there isn’t any extra bulk in the tummy area, under the snaps. That makes for a great fit around the waist. However, those sewn in “flaps” have caused me so much disappointment. Firstly, there are openings in the flaps. I don’t own a diaper sprayer, so I have to dunk and swish, which wouldn’t be a problem… except that solids can get into the opening on the flap. That’s pretty gross. I also have some lint that keeps building up in there, that I have to pick out. I’ve never had that problem with a diaper before. My boys boys are active toddlers now, and I find that even if they are wearing the diaper for a short time, and the front flap is folded for more protection in the ‘wet zone’, it still leaks out the leg holes. I’ve tried adding doublers to the diapers, but the loose flaps want to wiggle around and slip out the sides, causing me to try and hold down a busy toddler, while stuffing the edges back in. It just doesn’t work very well for us. If the two flaps weren’t meeting in the middle and trying to each go their own way, it would be easier to use.All in all, I am very sad that these diapers don’t work better for us. I really wanted to love them. They are cute, and I hate to feel like I’ve wasted money. However, these diapers have caused me to change many pairs of pants, and usually at very inopportune times. So sad. 🙁
Not for chunky babies. 🙁
They are way too trim for my 15 lb 11 week old. They dry quickly but the inserts move around and they leak. 🙁 Not a fan. Way overpriced for this quality.
Love it! No leaks! Easy diapering.
I only gave 4 stars because I wish the Bumgenius had more prints available. They mostly have solids and I LOVE prints. But this is super easy diapering system. Even my mom – who has arthritis can get these on my 6 month old. And no leaks!
I will compare these to the other bumgenius diapers we have. I like the fit (which is basically the same for all of them). They dry pretty fast (about the same as my flips and faster than my elementals). I’m okay with the microfiber. I’m okay with the overlapping flaps UNLESS there is poo involved and let’s be honest… This is a catcher for poo and pee. It’s just a pain to try to figure out how to swish these with two flaps going in two different directions. So annoying. The price is not bad for an all in one that is one sized. The majority of our dipes are snaps and frankly I think that they are way superior to the aplix which wears out and sticks to other things in the wash and babies eventually can easily undo.My recommendation is this. If price is an issue go with the flips if you like bumgenius. Otherwise the elementals are a good option (but pricier) but honestly if you want a nice all in one (one sized or sized) I’d suggest the swaddlebees simplex, super easy to use, good fit, not bulky, no weird flaps and they dry fast.
FABULOUS diaper… LOVE them! Makes CD’ing EASY!
BumGenius Freetime diapers are absolutely GREAT diapers. I have BumGenius 4.0, Rump A Roos, FuzzyBuns, Kiwi Pie, and Happy Heiny’s… these are my favorite diapers. I’ve been using them for over 2 months, and they have never once leaked (whereas I can tell you for a fact that the others have leaked).Freetime diapers have 2 layers of stay-dry absorbent cloth that do NOT come apart from the diaper – You can fold them however you want into the inside of the diaper. The cloths are THE BEST part of the diaper. There is no stuffing involved (like pocket diapers), and they have the same great diaper qualities that the regular BG 4.0’s have.Anyway, long story short- these are great. Some people have written that they are too bulky… but if thats the case, then just use them for an overnight dipe!UPDATE!!: I have been using these diapers for 4 months now, and they are still my favorite. So convenient!! I’m a working mom, so when my baby lays down for the night, and I have to wash the diapers, all i do is dump the entire wet bag into the washer and I’m done! I don’t have to pull out the liners or worry about making sure any velcro will snag on anything. After they are dry, I save even more time by not having to stuff each and every one. It sounds like no big deal, to stuff a pocket diaper, but when there are so many other things on your “to do” list at night before bed, the last thing you want to do is spend time stressing over cloth diapers. These diapers make cloth diapering EASY!!A note about the “bulk” I mentioned in my first review… Since these diapers have been washed more, they have also lost their bulk. They are not as bulky and fluffy as they used to be. They are still VERY absorbent and VERY soft!! :-)****Last but not least, and I hope you all read this, I bought some of these diapers from Amazon to try them out. When I realized they were perfect for me, I bought the 24-pack from the Cotton Babies web site (originally $400, discounted to $360 with their “buy 5, get 1 free” promotion). If you sign up for the newsletter, they will give you a 5% off promo code included in their welcome letter! I’m all about saving $$, so I hope this helps!UPDATE: DEC. 2013 — I am STILL using these BG Freetimes! My daughter is almost 1.5yrs and these diapers work wonderfully. I am expecting again in March with another little girl, and you can bet that I am going to be purchasing another stash for my second kiddo! Please email or leave a comment if you have any questions for me! I’d be happy to answer 🙂
bumgenius products are very well made and are by far my favorite… These are the bulkiest of the styles though. My favorite style is the original elemental
Favorite cloth diapers
I’ve tried 3 different cloth diapers and these are my favorite.I tried:bumGenius Freetime (snap)bumGenius Elemental (snap)Swaddlebees Simplex All in One (snap)At first I really liked the Elemental because they seemed to leak the least, since the insert pieces didn’t move. They take FOREVER to dry though. The Swaddlebees are good, but the snaps seemed to wear and I had to replace a few.For the Freetime, I always stuff two extra soaker pads (Grovia http://www.amazon.com/GroVia-Cloth-Wipes-12-count/dp/B003X3R6TO) in the diaper. One in each flap. and I make sure that the flap that goes towards the back is on top. Since doing this, I haven’t had any leaks, and only an occasional rash when I didn’t smell that he had pooped.I recommend all three (and the Grovia wipes), but these are my favorite. Also, Albert is super cute.
Love everything but the snap colors
I was really excited to get this diaper and it came pretty fast. When I opened it I was a little disappointed that mine did not look like the picture. It had colored snaps and to me it just looks odd. This is the only reason why it’s rated as a 4. It does work really well and have not had any leaks or blow outs. I use a diaper spayer and have no problems rinsing it out. I would recommend this diaper for people who want a all in one diapers.
This diaper works really great. I use it as an overnight diaper. No leaks! I also use it with a hemp babies doubler also.
bumGenius All-In-One-Size Snap Closure Cloth Diaper
Extremely easy to use and care for; absorbent; non-leaking over-night; grows with child. Great color selection. I highly recommend these diapers!
Quite nice but sizing is weird
Trying the bumgenius with snaps for the first time with this product. (been using the velcro ones) I think longterm they will be fine but hard to get the sizing perfect, which would be the strength of the velcro (with the weakness being aging well and making washing harder.)Still undecided if we’ll be buying more of these, or going to try something else.
Great, but leaks more than prefolds with a cover for us
I don’t know if I’m using the sizeable snaps wrong (not making it fit right), or if our skinny baby (4th% for weight) just has skinny thighs compared to most babies. But the diapers leak every time she poops. We have mostly flips covers and cotton prefolds that I use with a snappi and they leak a lot less. But the make and feel of the AIO’s is great. Maybe a baby with fatter thighs would have less leaks.
Good diaper, but I chose another brand for the price
Pros: cute design, stretchy tabs, good constructionCons: gaps in leg holes no matter how I arranged the snaps, don’t like the 2 flaps attached to the diaper (makes it hard to position it prior to putting it on baby, and also makes spraying poo off difficult)
I didn’t care for the unusual inserts…
It’s nice that these diapers are all in one, but I didn’t really like the flaps. I wanted something that I could customize just a little bit more. i did buy Bumgenius diapers for my stash, but just not the Freetimes.
They are great overnights
They work for my son. Never a leak. Never. I use these strictly for overnights since they are $20 each. I save my pockets and Flips for daytime use. My son has long skinny legs and a beautiful buddah belly 🙂 They fit him. No leaks. Again I say – NO LEAKS. I’d buy 20 if I could afford it all at once. I’ll work my way up to a good stash hopefully for future munchkins. I use BumGenius/Country Save detergent and we do get stains. But they brighten up white after a good line-dry in the sun.
Function: Does its job catching pees and poop even overnight 10h for my 6 month old who likes to nurse all night. I have not had any leaks.Washing: Have had these for about a month and wash them every 2 days in Rocking green; We use a flushable liner but throw it in a diaper genie then store them in a wet bag until ready to wash; They have been taking 1/2 day to dry completely when hanging up inside. Sometimes longer.Appearance: Cute colors but slightly bulky. Mirror is my favorite. They come in some prints.Fit: These are kind of hard to put on currently because I when I stretch the front up it unsnaps the rise on occasion. Also now my baby loves to roll over while I am trying to fasten the snaps. The stretch tabs help a lot. I think the fuzzibunz one size are fitting better right now though.
What’s not to love?
I’m fully aware that not all diapers will fit every baby the same, but you should never base your decision to try a diaper because someone else hates it.. I really love this diaper. It’s unique with the petals that allow for good versatility in customizing absorption. It also fits really trim, which is a plus. Although the 4.0 fluffy bulk is also cute and not obnoxious like some other super bulky diapers. I own every version diaper BumGenius makes, including the new Elemental, all of which are amazing. Never had any problems.
Solved (mostly) all of my cloth diapering woes
I tried cloth prefolds with covers, bamboo prefolds, wool covers, fleece covers, Grovia’s, BottomBumpers, etc and we kept having leakage problems. On top of that, there were often fit problems with prefolds. After months of trying out various methods, I finally tried BumGenius Freetime and I haven’t looked back. Though there’s an occasional leak, they hold up really well, they contain poop far better than disposable diapers (due to the gussets not just on the leg holes but most importantly on the back of the diaper), they’re super easy to put on given that they’re AIO’s and don’t involve stuffing, and they dry well due to the flaps. A few things I don’t like: 1. Though I hated Grovia’s diapers, their shells had awesome snaps that were really easy to snap and not “pokey” resting against the baby’s skin, 2. I wish they had a better color selection — most of their colors are too pastel and washed out looking, I wish they had richer/more vibrant colors, 2. with the way my son’s pudgy baby belly hangs over the diaper when he’s sitting, the snaps sometimes rest on his skin and leave marks. Overall, I absolutely love love these diapers, they’re super easy to use and wash and good at doing their job.
Doesn’t leak and very easy to put on my 2 month old. Been using for over a month now, and haven’t had any issues with it. I will be buying more in the future.
I love bumGenius Freetimes! I only have one, but it is by far my favorite diaper I have. I’ll be ordering a few more as soon as possible! The only thing I’m not so fond of is the microfiber. It is SO absorbent, but I’ve heard a lot of stories about mf holding onto smells really bad. I haven’t experienced this myself, but I’m watching out for it.
Initial bad product, but Cotton Babies corrected problem
This was my first freetime diaper, the liner started to rip out after the third wash. I contacted bumgenius/cotton babies and they sent me a new diaper after I sent mine back. I was turned off of freetime diapers after the first product, but I used that one and it really held up well. I have since bought more freetime diapers. Almost a year later and I prefer freetime diapers as I can grab these on the go without stuffing them, really a great thing for a mom of a busy toddler. I am planning on buying more as I am expecting my second child and I know I will have even less time.
freetimes make up the bulk of my stash. they adjust really well and man do they dry fast! never have any leaks and ive played around with adjusting the attached soakers for my heavy wetter son. ive even slipped in a soaker as needed. just wish they had more cute patterns and werent so pricey. they are simple enough that any caregiver can use them. they are as simple as cding gets!
I love this all-in-one. It fits great and is not too bulky. The colors are beautiful and the inserts are very soft and comfortable. I have never had any leaks with these diapers. They are way better than Grovia AIO diapers. I wish I had more of these. My favorite AIO diaper!
Not my favorite BG
I love BG diapers but was a little disappointed with this. We usually use the pocket diapers and found leaks every single time with the AIOs, no matter how we’d fold the flaps.
Mirror Blue Color is Nice for Girls
I bought this item in the "mirror" color and thought it would be a gender neutral color. However, after seeing it in person, I think it would be better for a girl. For a boy, I’d choose "moonbeam" or "twilight" blue instead. Also, I thought I would like the all-in-one feature. However, I now wish that I’d gotten a kind that has removable inserts, because then I wouldn’t need to wash the whole thing after each changing.
An easy to use cloth diaper that is cute and functional!
bumGenius has made cloth diapering ever so easy! The design is super cute. The diaper is extremely absorbent and I haven’t experienced any leaks yet! A wonderful product that is actually worth purchasing!
Great addition to my stash
I was new to cloth diapering and tried out lots of different types and brands. I like the all-in-one as a nighttime diaper. It never leaks! They hold up to laundering well and any stains can be removed by drying in the sunlight.
Great absorbency, adorable print.
I absolutely love these diapers. They’re a little difficult for my husband to figure out, what with the folding the pads and all, but they work perfectly and they’re one of the best values I’ve found.
