Tortle Repositioning Beanie – FDA cleared to Prevent and Treat Flat Head Syndrome – Baby Blue – MD

Tortle Repositioning Beanie – FDA cleared to Prevent and Treat Flat Head Syndrome – Baby Blue – MD

Repositioning is recommended for all newborns; every baby is at risk for developing Flat Head Syndrome, plagiocephaly or torticollis. Because baby’s skulls are soft, yet heavy and necks are weak, infants are vulnerable to developing these conditions in the first few months of life. This is why, proper movement and deliberate repositioning of your infant from birth is one of the key’s to the healthy development of your baby. Tortle is a simple, comfortable beanie that is FDA cleared to help prevent and treat Flat Head Syndrome (plagiocephaly and torticollis). Early detection and correct use of Tortle will ensure the best long term results. To properly use the Tortle, you must pull the beanie down as far as possible so the crown of the head is fitted into the top of beanie and ears are covered. If beanie is covering baby’s eyebrows, you can fold the front of the beanie. Remember to let your Tortle grow with your baby and purchase the next Tortle size!

Main features

  • 95% Cotton/5% Spandex
  • Tortle helps to prevent and treat flat head syndrome. It does this by gently deflecting your baby’s head when she’s sitting or lying on the back of her head, to gently move her head from side to side. It’s a natural way to encourage healthy head and neck motion, without any of the suffocation risks of repositioning pillows or wedges.
  • Sizes: Small (0-2 months/5-10 lbs.) Medium (2-4 months/10-15 lbs.) Large (4-6 months/15-20 lbs.)
  • 95% cotton/5% spandex
  • Machine Washable
  • It is recommended that all newborns wear a TortleTM for the first six months of life to aid in repositioning baby’s head.

Meh…

Got this for my son who is developing a flat spot behind his right ear from always wanting to look right when he sleeps (or is in his Fisher Price Rock & Play). It does seem to help keep him looking the other way but he’s strong enough that he can still get to looking right. Also, he is a very HOT baby and is always overheated so keeping a hat on him is a major challenge and I usually don’t even try since he’s hot to begin with. I think it’s a great idea and will probably save a lot of parents the worry over flat head syndrome, just isn’t the best for my son.

Best option for torticollis/flat head

This is a brilliant idea and works relatively well. My baby has torticollis and a flat spot. I use this overnight in the hopes of avoiding helmet therapy. Used with physical therapy, it does seem to be helping the torticollis. I generally wait until she is fast asleep and then quickly put it in. She’ll usually knock it off after about an hour, but I’m up every three for feedings and put it back on then. It works better than a rolled up towel.

Good product except it didn’t fit

Even though my baby was right in the middle of the weight & age sizes for the medium hat (3 months, 12 lbs), it was too small and kept sliding off. I think it would have worked well if it had fit. I’m going to have to order the next size up.

Kushies vs Bumkins Long-Sleeved Bibs

I was looking for a long-sleeved waterproof bib for my toddler-to-be, and I first purchasedBumkins Waterproof Sleeved Bib – Blue Fizz. They both have their pros and cons, but here’s the list for Kushies:PROS1. BPA-free, PVC-free, phthalates-free,
• lead-free
• (Bumkins is NOT lead-free, but only lead-
• safe
• )2. Easy to clean, especially on the lining (vs Bumkins’ lining stains and is regular cloth/cotton material and hard to clean)CONS1. Thinner material (almost feels disposable but it’s not)2. Velcro neck strap (doesn’t adjust to neck size of baby, not as resilient as a tie strap in terms of older babies pulling it off)Both have nice designs and work well as bibs. Like any other cloth/fabric-type bibs, the flimsy “catcher” at the bottom of these bibs doesn’t catch as nicely as hard plastic-type bibs but those stiffer bibs are also less comfortable. My baby seems comfortable in both Bumkins and Kushies sleeved bibs, although he tends to chew on the Bumkins one more whereas the thinner material (maybe the thinner material is actually a pro instead of con in this case?) allows the bib to fall against his body more and is less tempting than the thicker material of the Bumkins bib that sort of stays closer to his face/mouth.Overall though, Kushies gets my vote for lead-free, esp since my baby likes chewing on the Bumkins one. And the easier to clean is a big bonus for busy parents as well.

Searching for the perfect long sleeve bib: 4 comparisons

I couldn’t believe how much time I had to spend each day trying to get stains out of clothes. And with winter coming up, I wanted to get long sleeve bibs, which for some reason I haven’t seen in Babies R Us or any other store. Every bib I got seemed to have some issue, but I thought it might be helpful for others to see a comparison of the details:SIZEKushies – the smallest of the three bibs (sleeve – 11 inches from neck, width – 10 inches, length – 13 inches from neck).Ikea – sleeve (14 inches from neck, including a 1 inch fabric cuff), width (12 inches from one seam to another but another 8 inches that wrap around – yea!!), length (14 inches from neck)Bumpkins – sleeve (14.5 inches from neck), width (13.5 inches), length (12.5 from neck)Tidy Turtle – the largest (sleeve – 16 inches from neck, width – 14 inches, legth – 15 inches from neck)MATERIALKushies and Ikea are very thin, like umbrella material. Kusies folds down to nothing – great for a full diaper bag. Ikea folds a little thicker due to cloth cuffs and extra fabric.Tidy Turtle and Bumpkins are thicker and stiffer. Tidy Turtle has a visibly larger weave.CUFFSAll the sleeves have a 3-inch opening (in diameter).Kushies – no elastic cuff. Food may fall in and drip onto the baby’s arms/clothes.Ikea – 1 inch of soft spandex fabric. The cuff opening is just a little bit smaller than the other bibs.Bumpkins and Tidy Turtle – elastic sewn inside the bib material.NECK CLOSUREMy 20lb baby has a skinny neck. Unfortunately, all of the bibs are about the same size around the neck, regardless of what type of closure. Bumpkins ties together at the neck, and the others have velcro. Even they are supposed to be “adjustable” velcro, they are all about the same size opening on the smallest setting. With velcro, you also have to make sure you stick it together before washing. Otherwise, it will stick to and ruin your other clothes. Unfortunately, the Ikea bib has an extra long grippy part that cannot be covered, so you are sure to ruin some delicate clothes if you throw it in the wash without putting it in a separate lingerie bag or something. In general, all the long sleeve bibs seem too big for my my 1 year old and were too big around the neck area. Sometimes I use a clothes pin to make the neck opening smaller. Aside from that, I feel that Bumpkins and Ikea provide the best coverage without being too big. They are wide and long enough on the bottom and have an elastic cuff to keep Baby’s clothes clean. I like Ikea’s thinner material and spandex cuffs, but Bumpkins looks cuter (we love Cat in the Hat).

Clothes saver. Get light colors!

These work well, they protect my baby’s clothes. They are not perfect, some food does make its way through the arms and neck, but honestly, a bib should not be too tight to prevent that. One thing you should be aware of is that the dark colors leach like there is no tomorrow. I got a blue one and hand washed it in cold water before using it. The water was deep blue in no time. I returned it, baby will spill water and bring the bib to his mouth, I don’t need a lot of blue on him and his clothes!I do like them enough as to buy more and have them rotate through the day, though.

Freddie the Firefly vs. Tucker the Turtle for a newborn

I have both the firefly and the turtle. Both have pros and cons. I prefer the turtle because of the large mirror on his belly. My newborn has been fascinated with this since she was a month old. The firefly mirror on the wing is too small to interest her even though she is now 3 months old. However, the tangling teether from the firefly should come in handy in another month or two. If you were to buy only one Lamaze for a newborn, I recommend the turtle for its nice size mirror.

BEST BABY GIFT….EVER!

We received Freddie as a baby gift. At first I kinda thought he was just a cute, but tacky useless stuffed animal. Boy was I WRONG! My son (who is now 4 months old) has been obsessed with him for months now. When he was tiny he loved to just stare at him. Freddie’s back is done in big white and black print which dear son could stare at forever. When he started holding things it was easy for him to hold because Freddie has big, but flat wings and it was hard for him to drop him. Now he loves hearing Freddie crinkle, looking at the mirror, chewing on the lady bug in his pocket, and grabbing his rings. Freddie does have a small squeaker that isn’t too annoying and is semi hidden so only my husband and I push it when wanted. It’ll be a little bit before the baby can grasp squeaking it on purpose. And even then it’s not loud and obnoxious like lots of baby toys.Freddie is by far our favorite baby item. We’ve accidentally left him at home once and that was a BIG.MISTAKE. This toy is now my “go-to baby shower gift” for all moms. He’s FANTASTIC.

Totally Cool!

Granted my daughter is only 6 months old now and cannot play with this toy yet – but my husband and I can! This car will go FOREVER depending on how far you wind it back and how much free space you give it. On the rug (depends on the type/thickness), hardwood, or tile you will get this car to go! Lots of fun.

It’s so SMALL!

I thought this would be a lot larger than it was. When I received it, I was shocked at how small it was. The “pull-back/release to go” feature doesn’t work well at all, especially on carpet (even really short carpet!). My 7-month-old took one look at this and turned her nose up at it. At least it was cheap.

Little toy would pay less for it, if I saw ahead of time.

Thought my LO would love this toy. He loves cars and trucks but this toy does not seem to interest him. As another reviewer said, it is much smaller than I thought it would be. It is a push back car which is nice, but the poppers do not pop as expected. If the price is between $3-4 go for it. For $6 it is overpriced.

This toy is simple and fun! The set sticks to the wall of the bath and shower, the pieces stick to each other, and they also float. The item IS for ages 3+, and a determined toddler could really chew these up if he or she wanted to, but I watch my son, and we’ve had no problems!

My son has no interest in these

I was so excited to give these to my son for Christmas! He is now 22 months and loves cars, trucks, buses etc. I thought he would love these. He does not. He has no interest in playing with them. He has no interest in sticking them to the side of the tub or anything. It’s strange, because he loves to take his toy cars and trucks into the tub and line them up on the side, but these, nope! Not an inkling of interest. To me, these are cute and stick well to the tub (I’ve done that myself easily when showing him what they do).

Horrible, not waterproof at all

I was shocked when I read all of the 5 star reviews. These are horrible bibs. They are listed as waterproof, and is very far from the truth. Never have these kept moisture off of his clothing. We would have to double bib him, and even then, both would be drenched in a half hour or so. We will stick with our generic Target brand ones that absorb and wash great.

Great for the Spitter-Upper

My son has had bad reflux since birth. These bibs have been a great saver! They are a nice soft cotton, but still have enough waterproofing to them that the spit-up doesn’t soak through to his clothes. I also appreciate that they don’t have any design/embroidery on them, as it helps catch and absorb, where as the ones we received as gifts or with clothing sets haven’t worked. He is now drooling a lot and these have worked great for catching that, as well. They have stayed in great shape through 6 months of washing.

Not as good as the reviews

I bought this product based on the rave reviews and they were terrible! My 3-month old twins are not drooling yet, just using them for regular bottle feed and it soaks thru so quickly. Unless I got a batch of defected bibs, they really are no better than paper napkins…

excellent quality and very attractive to my baby

First of all, FYI: this mirror is a distorting mirror. This feature used be my big concern, but after I did a lot of scientifical research about the baby`s reaction to a real mirror when compare to a distorting mirror, the research result is that: no significate difference!!!(they r both good), Moreover, scientists also recommend not use breakable mirror, which made by glass, for a baby. That`s why I finally settle down with distorting mirror which usually made by plastic and its more safe for a baby.ok, next, I will address why I strongly recommend this product as following reasons:1, first time when I saw it in TARGET supermarket, I found it is made by very good material and well designed, with vivid animal and colorful decorationCIt touched very soft and the stitchwork details are very delicate.2, and when I further check this mirror, I found it`s not only a mirror , but also with some function, for expample, the green color whale can make a cute sound when you squeeze it(and some more you will find out 😛 ).3.altough its a distorting mirror and made by plastic, the image looks very good , I can see my face clearly in this mirror.4, This mirror PLAY MAGIC!! —-I placed it beside my baby`s changing pad and my baby noticed it very soon ( my baby was only 10weeks then ), he used to be fuzzy when he was changed diaper but since the day he notice this mirrior, he never cry at all when I change the diaper, but instead, he always talks to the mirror and smile too!5, Recently, my baby reach his 4 months and very like to reach out his hand and catch the red little seahorse which attached to the mirror. my baby really LOVE it, (plz check my shared pictures)6, and after I reviewed other people`s review here, I found this mirrow may also good for my baby`s tummy time, so I purchased one more and tested it. The result is that, this mirror PLAY MAGIC AGAIN!my baby used to cry or fuzzy when in tummy time(could not bare even 30 second), but now, this mirror can help him to enjoy the tummy time as long as 10 minutes.7, last but not lest, this mirror can stand very sturdy with a triangle wide open design.I feel very happy and appreciated the person who design this mirror. Thank you !

the “curse” of the Taggies!

We wanted a safe mirror for our little one to play with (5 months). This fits the bill perfectly. There are a few things that might be minor annoyances, but are good for him.1st pro/con: it folds flat/it collapses! This totally depends on your point of view! Those medium blue colored triangles are simply flaps of fabric. This is great for storage, but… I honestly thought it might be a pillow wedge thing, and it isn’t. There isn’t anything interesting on the second side either. (and there is no third side of the triangle. And yes, I recognize that the flaps are technically two additional sides… just go with it!)2nd pro/con: it has taggies! Each of my children has LOVED tags on their toys. Steiff? Tag in ear? nom nom nom! Cheap plush with tag? nom nom nom! Random shirt from the laundry with tag? NOM NOM! So I knew that the Taggies concept would likely be tag overload, but in a good way. However…I noticed it 8 years ago, and it’s true for all the subsequent children, too. No matter how many tags, they will ALWAYS go for the product tag. The one that is a little different, that isn’t the ribbon. It usually has the washing instructions on it. That tag gets the most chewing.3rd pro/con! It’s lightweight! So, my 5 month old can manipulate the whole thing. And my 5 month old can easily knock it over and lose interest. This kinda cycles back to the fold flat thing. A casual swipe and it’s folded flat. Out of sight out of… SQUIRREL!Finally: the "seahorse" on the left of the mirror has the crunchy sound. The fish on the top right has a quiet rattler in it. The green whale at the bottom right has a squeaker that my 5 month old cannot manipulate in it. But hey, it gives me something to do.

Hurt my eyes, not safe for a baby!

I bought this for my six week old daughter when I saw it was on clearance at Target. I had been wanting to get one for her, and when I saw this I thought it was really cute. It has an ocean theme and Taggies all around it.When I got it home, I realized it definitely did have distortion, but seemed clearer the closer you got. Not feeling completely satisfied with the mirror, I tried it again the following day and realized it actually HURT MY EYES to look into it. The only way I can describe it, is that it was like the feeling you get when you try on a pair of glasses that are someone else’s.I almost wondered if I was imagining it, surely there couldn’t be a product on the market that is supposed to be designed for a baby, that would in fact hurt even an adults eyes when used as intended? I tried it a couple more times with the same results, then got my husband to try it and he said the same thing, that he actually felt a physical pain/strange and uncomfortable sensation when looking into this mirror. There was no way I was going to give this to my baby. I seriously wonder about the damage it could do to a little ones eyes if used enough! Scary! I promptly returned it and after doing some more research, I’m going to try the one that Lamaze makes based on the reviews here which at the time of this writing, are all five stars and reviewers claim gives a true reflection rather than a warped, fun house mirror styled one.Give this one a miss, it’s certainly not worth the discomfort to your little ones eyes, or even a remote chance of possible eye damage!

It won’t stick!

We got this before we remodeled our bathroom and it wouldn’t stick to the tile. We figured it was just because the tile was old. So we put it away until after the remodel. Well nearly 100% of tub units we saw had U shaped corners as opposed to the V shape you need for this to work. SO we got a new bathroom and the thing still doesn’t work. But based on the other reviews I see we aren’t the only ones with this problem. We ended up with a $5 buck toy net that sticks to the wall perfectly!

A Must Have Product!

This one of the most useful baby products out there. It keeps all those bath toys together. Made of sturdy plastic and mesh, with strong suction cups. It is large enough to hold all of my son’s various bath toys and foam letters. It is open so that my son can get out whatever toys he wants to play with. The cubby has a mesh front, as well as a mesh bottom so that all toys dry completely without mildewing. I have had no problems getting the suction cups on it to stick to our tile tub either. It has stayed since the first day I put it there. This is just great! It has a cute little fish theme. We have the matching ocean wonders bathroom space saver as well. Highly recommended!!

Good all around – instructions need to be clearer about how to use it with a seatbelt

We bought this after returning a Britax Frontier 90 (because it doesn’t have a "backless booster" mode, and the head protection is WAAAY too deep for comfort), and we kept it and like it. It’s well designed and pretty easy to use and looks nice, and my tall near-4yo likes it. My only gripe is that I spent a bunch of time trying to figure out why I couldn’t get the seatbelt attachment to hold it stable – until I finally found the one note on one page of the instructions that says you’re only supposed to clamp one side of the seatbelt, not both. (My instinct was to clamp both, based on the design and the diagrams.)I’m very good at reading instructions – I’d sat down at the kitchen table and read through them front-to-back before I even attempted to start putting this in. So it’s pretty easy to miss this one note – and if I hadn’t kept going back at it, sure that something was wrong, I’d be driving around with a very loose car seat today. So, I took off one star for that.

Road Trip Worthy

Our daughter outgrew her infant seat a couple of months ago, and so we’ve been looking for a replacement for a while. This stood out, or rather the earlier model did, as it was getting among the highest reviews here and on other sites, both consumer and safety scores were among the highest. There were a few main critiques, such as overall comfort and the limited time span of the five point harness due to not having another slot for slightly larger kids.My parents ended up getting us the Nautilus. Then, this one became available. So, I have both and am happy to say that the Nautilus Elite is everything the earlier version was while addressing some of the earlier concerns. The five point harness has that extra slot, letting it be used for larger kids. Everything is cleanable, and there’s a bit more padding throughout, including on the straps. The head rest adjusts not only upwards, but also in and out, making for a larger or smaller space for children’s head. Everything else is pretty much the same. Slightly different coloring system, but very comfortable all around for my daughter. In fact, this Elite got a big test the last two weeks. We drove up to Portland and back from the Los Angeles area. A thousand miles each way. That’s something. Our daughter not only survived the trip but was positively a great traveler. While she got antsy every so often, at no point was the car seat a problem. Indeed, it was a great boon in every way, a great protection and an all around comfortable seat. We took two days to drive up and two days to drive down. Ten hours the first day, about six the second (no more than two hours at a time without a stop). She did great. Had morning and afternoon naps, woke up refreshed and happy. She had good head support and was apparently very comfortable. No strap marks or other signs that she had been sitting in the seat that long. Before we put it in, our daughter liked to sit in it as a casual chair! So, it’s comfortable from her perspective! It’s very easy to install, both with the Latch system and with older cars that need the seat belts (like ours). Takes less than a couple of minutes. Everything adjusts easy. I’m definitely looking forward to having this for a long while and testing out its suitability for a bigger child. Here in California, we need car seats for a long while, and this one looks to go the distance until our daughter is driving herself around. Some might have different experiences, but for us, after 2200 miles of driving the last couple of weeks, I couldn’t be more pleased or recommend this more highly.

So excited for this car seat!

Wanted to buy the Elite Nautilus for the feature of having the seatbelt lock attached to the car seat rather than the metal clip that the regular Nautilus has (why on earth do they not make the regular Nautilus w/ the updated seatbelt lock?!). We owned the Nautilus before & loved it (and updated b/c we were involved in a car wreck and the insurance company was paying for us to get new ones…yeah!). If you’ve ever used that awful metal clip seatbelt lock you know what a huge pain it is and takes forever to install it correctly & safely.I’ve owned this car seat (& the other one that they call "Vice" in color) for several months now and we like it. The only difference between it and the regular Nautilus is the seatbelt lock & the head piece can be adjusted on this one (a feature I haven’t used yet). The only downside I’ve come across is that my son (3YO and average height & weight) complains sometimes that it hurts his peepee. I think it’s because at those times that he complains his butt is scooted forward and he just needs to scoot it back. Wish they had a better crotch strap adjust but in the end I would still recommend.

For comfort, its sleeveless design reduces the risk of overheating, while the “Back is Best” embroidery reminds all caregivers to place babies on their backs to sleep. Recommended By Hospitals And Safety Organizations The HALO SleepSack wearable blanket is used by more than 1,250 hospital nurseries in North America to teach parents safe sleep practices. The sack design allows room for your baby’s legs to move freely to ensure proper hip development, and has been approved as “Hip Healthy” by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute. It is the only wearable blanket to carry the gold seals from First Candle/SIDS Alliance and the Canadian Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths. HALO’s Mission: Help Babies Sleep Safely HALO’s founder Bill Schmid and his wife lost their first born to SIDS. From this tragedy, HALO and its mission were born. For over 15 years we’ve been educating parents about safe sleep practices and have supported non-profit organizations such as First Candle/SIDS Alliance and The Canadian Foundation for the Study of Infant Death. Since 2005, the American Academy of Pediatrics has suggested the use of wearable blankets. Today, HALO SleepSack wearable blankets are a trusted choice of hospitals, and are used throughout North America to help babies sleep safely from the start. Rough fabric, odd size

I ended up returning this sleep sack. Even though it was labeled as a "small" it was considerably larger than the Halo Sleep Sacks we already had in small. But the main reason I returned it was because the fabric is so rough — very similar to burlap. And the colors are even brighter than shown in the picture. I worried that the color alone would be too stimulating for my baby to fall asleep quickly.

Rough

The material is a little rough so I have to put a onesie underneath. It fits well and does what its supposed to but I wish the fabric was softer.

Cute but not soft.

This is adorable but the waffle fabric is not very soft. It’s actually kind of scratchy. And we’ve washed it several times.
