Repositioning is recommended for all newborns; every baby is at risk for developing Flat Head Syndrome, plagiocephaly or torticollis. Because baby’s skulls are soft, yet heavy and necks are weak, infants are vulnerable to developing these conditions in the first few months of life. This is why, proper movement and deliberate repositioning of your infant from birth is one of the key’s to the healthy development of your baby. Tortle is a simple, comfortable beanie that is FDA cleared to help prevent and treat Flat Head Syndrome (plagiocephaly and torticollis). Early detection and correct use of Tortle will ensure the best long term results. To properly use the Tortle, you must pull the beanie down as far as possible so the crown of the head is fitted into the top of beanie and ears are covered. If beanie is covering baby’s eyebrows, you can fold the front of the beanie. Remember to let your Tortle grow with your baby and purchase the next Tortle size!
- 95% Cotton/5% Spandex
- Tortle helps to prevent and treat flat head syndrome. It does this by gently deflecting your baby’s head when she’s sitting or lying on the back of her head, to gently move her head from side to side. It’s a natural way to encourage healthy head and neck motion, without any of the suffocation risks of repositioning pillows or wedges.
- Sizes: Small (0-2 months/5-10 lbs.) Medium (2-4 months/10-15 lbs.) Large (4-6 months/15-20 lbs.)
- 95% cotton/5% spandex
- Machine Washable
- It is recommended that all newborns wear a TortleTM for the first six months of life to aid in repositioning baby’s head.
Got this for my son who is developing a flat spot behind his right ear from always wanting to look right when he sleeps (or is in his Fisher Price Rock & Play). It does seem to help keep him looking the other way but he’s strong enough that he can still get to looking right. Also, he is a very HOT baby and is always overheated so keeping a hat on him is a major challenge and I usually don’t even try since he’s hot to begin with. I think it’s a great idea and will probably save a lot of parents the worry over flat head syndrome, just isn’t the best for my son.
Latoya Rapelje, MT
This is a brilliant idea and works relatively well. My baby has torticollis and a flat spot. I use this overnight in the hopes of avoiding helmet therapy. Used with physical therapy, it does seem to be helping the torticollis. I generally wait until she is fast asleep and then quickly put it in. She’ll usually knock it off after about an hour, but I’m up every three for feedings and put it back on then. It works better than a rolled up towel.
Erin Cohocton, NY
Even though my baby was right in the middle of the weight & age sizes for the medium hat (3 months, 12 lbs), it was too small and kept sliding off. I think it would have worked well if it had fit. I’m going to have to order the next size up.

I was looking for a long-sleeved waterproof bib for my toddler-to-be, and I first purchasedBumkins Waterproof Sleeved Bib – Blue Fizz. They both have their pros and cons, but here’s the list for Kushies:PROS1. BPA-free, PVC-free, phthalates-free,
• (Bumkins is NOT lead-free, but only lead-
• )2. Easy to clean, especially on the lining (vs Bumkins’ lining stains and is regular cloth/cotton material and hard to clean)CONS1. Thinner material (almost feels disposable but it’s not)2. Velcro neck strap (doesn’t adjust to neck size of baby, not as resilient as a tie strap in terms of older babies pulling it off)Both have nice designs and work well as bibs. Like any other cloth/fabric-type bibs, the flimsy “catcher” at the bottom of these bibs doesn’t catch as nicely as hard plastic-type bibs but those stiffer bibs are also less comfortable. My baby seems comfortable in both Bumkins and Kushies sleeved bibs, although he tends to chew on the Bumkins one more whereas the thinner material (maybe the thinner material is actually a pro instead of con in this case?) allows the bib to fall against his body more and is less tempting than the thicker material of the Bumkins bib that sort of stays closer to his face/mouth.Overall though, Kushies gets my vote for lead-free, esp since my baby likes chewing on the Bumkins one. And the easier to clean is a big bonus for busy parents as well.

I couldn’t believe how much time I had to spend each day trying to get stains out of clothes. And with winter coming up, I wanted to get long sleeve bibs, which for some reason I haven’t seen in Babies R Us or any other store. Every bib I got seemed to have some issue, but I thought it might be helpful for others to see a comparison of the details:SIZEKushies – the smallest of the three bibs (sleeve – 11 inches from neck, width – 10 inches, length – 13 inches from neck).Ikea – sleeve (14 inches from neck, including a 1 inch fabric cuff), width (12 inches from one seam to another but another 8 inches that wrap around – yea!!), length (14 inches from neck)Bumpkins – sleeve (14.5 inches from neck), width (13.5 inches), length (12.5 from neck)Tidy Turtle – the largest (sleeve – 16 inches from neck, width – 14 inches, legth – 15 inches from neck)MATERIALKushies and Ikea are very thin, like umbrella material. Kusies folds down to nothing – great for a full diaper bag. Ikea folds a little thicker due to cloth cuffs and extra fabric.Tidy Turtle and Bumpkins are thicker and stiffer. Tidy Turtle has a visibly larger weave.CUFFSAll the sleeves have a 3-inch opening (in diameter).Kushies – no elastic cuff. Food may fall in and drip onto the baby’s arms/clothes.Ikea – 1 inch of soft spandex fabric. The cuff opening is just a little bit smaller than the other bibs.Bumpkins and Tidy Turtle – elastic sewn inside the bib material.NECK CLOSUREMy 20lb baby has a skinny neck. Unfortunately, all of the bibs are about the same size around the neck, regardless of what type of closure. Bumpkins ties together at the neck, and the others have velcro. Even they are supposed to be “adjustable” velcro, they are all about the same size opening on the smallest setting. With velcro, you also have to make sure you stick it together before washing. Otherwise, it will stick to and ruin your other clothes. Unfortunately, the Ikea bib has an extra long grippy part that cannot be covered, so you are sure to ruin some delicate clothes if you throw it in the wash without putting it in a separate lingerie bag or something. In general, all the long sleeve bibs seem too big for my my 1 year old and were too big around the neck area. Sometimes I use a clothes pin to make the neck opening smaller. Aside from that, I feel that Bumpkins and Ikea provide the best coverage without being too big. They are wide and long enough on the bottom and have an elastic cuff to keep Baby’s clothes clean. I like Ikea’s thinner material and spandex cuffs, but Bumpkins looks cuter (we love Cat in the Hat).

These work well, they protect my baby’s clothes. They are not perfect, some food does make its way through the arms and neck, but honestly, a bib should not be too tight to prevent that. One thing you should be aware of is that the dark colors leach like there is no tomorrow. I got a blue one and hand washed it in cold water before using it. The water was deep blue in no time. I returned it, baby will spill water and bring the bib to his mouth, I don’t need a lot of blue on him and his clothes!I do like them enough as to buy more and have them rotate through the day, though.

So we had high hopes for this swim diaper. Our son is 18.5lbs and wears a M. Unfortunately, the M does not fit too well, it gets all saggy and the other day we had an accident in the wading pool and voila EVERYTHING came out of the diaper. It did not contain anything. If you are looking for something to have more elastic around the legs and something that fits snug try Finis swim diaper or iPlay. Supposedly those work better…this one did not cut it for us.

This product works well. It is just as effective as the little dipper swim diapers that you can buy that are disposable. The best part is that you can use it over & over. Bear in mind what they are used for. If you arent comfortable with cleaning something up that has poo in it then maybe these arent for you. They fit well but when I ordered them I was concerned that a large may be too big. Unfortunately my son has already outgrown them. I guess it is hard to tell when you are ordering a product like this online. He is not quite 2 years old and of average size. There have been some floaters that have escaped while in the pool but no worse than any other product. Somehow its ok if my son makes #2 in the pool. Anyway I think you would be hard pressed to find anything that is completely effective at preventing escapage until you have a kid that is potty trained. As gross as it is there really aren’t any alternatives.

I bought two of these when we signed our 6 month old up for swim classes. He’s worn these twice a week for the past 8 months. They are great!!! Again for those that complain that they don’t absorb urine..——- SWIM DIAPERS ARE NOT SUPPOSE TO ABSORB URINE!!! That would totally defeat the point of a diaper for swimming. My boy did a number 2 only a couple of times and this swim suit caught it all just fine. Nice snug fit and they wash incredibly well. The velcro gets a little tattered, but honestly, for 8 months of weekly washing, they are so well made. These are very appropriate for an infant/early toddler to wear alone without being bulky. He received so many compliments on them. He’s now a bit bigger and wearing little boy trunks, but we put these underneath the trunks to catch any potties, because they will hold so much better than the trunks—-they are that good!! Get them, you wont be disappointed.

These mittens smaller size I found to be PERFECT until she was about 10 weeks. I liked that they weren’t huge oven mitts, they stayed on her hands, and didn’t stretch out. But now that she’s 12 weeks, I feel bad putting them on because they are so tight around her wrist. So, I wouldn’t say they go up to 6 months of age. But they were my favorite when she was little, I bought 4 pairs.
Kelsey Stamford, VT
These mittens are PERFECT. With my first baby, I bought a pack of Gerber mittens and they SUCKED. Always falling off and the elastic was flimsy and coming undone. I’ve been using these for a week on my week old daughter and they haven’t fallen off once! They’re pink and go with all her outfits and don’t seem to bother her or be too tight. They stay on without leaving indents in her little hands. I love these! Highly recommend!!

I just love these bibs! For one they are adorable, but they are also really easy to wipe off which is an added benefit. I’m not quite sure if they can go into the washing machine though, so far I’ve just wiped them off.

I didn’t realize that those bibs are made of some plastic-like material when I purchased them; they look really cute, but I don’t know if I can trust the material! It smells very strong.
Kitty Gilberton, PA
I love the pattern on these bibs. The front of the bib is easily wiped off. They are not soft fabric and are plastic.

You are already using cloth diapers; why not consider cloth swim diapers as well? Disposable baby swimwear is wasteful, and most of the products on the market are not very absorbent nor specially attractive. The Charlie Banana® swim diapers have a waterproof outer layer and a soft organic cotton inner lining with some micro terry built in. We have a rainbow assortment of colours and prints to make your little one a fashion sensation at the pool or beach.
- Inner Layer: 66% Bi-constituent Fiber, 34% Polyester; Lining: 100% Organically grown cotton
- waterproof outer layer
- soft organic cotton lining
- eco friendly
Haven’t used it yet but compared to the Kushies swim diaper (which I didn’t like so much and also reviewed), am very pleased about:- inner lining is very soft organic cotton, won’t worry about baby’s sensitive bottom being rubbed raw by wet cotton- has waterproof layer and a tiny bit of padding inside so I can put it on baby before we get into the water without worrying about mini pee accidents (pee goes right through disposable swim diapers and the kushies swim diapers)- no potentially scratchy velcro anywhere (I also hate velcro in the washing machine–laundry tabs don’t always hold them in place!)- has drawstring to ensure tight enough fit around waist.I know some reviewers don’t like the design of pull-up swim diapers cause if a poop during swimming were to happen, it gets pretty messy when it comes time to take off the diapers. I just figure that if my baby ever really does end up pooping in it (fingers crossed!), I’m going to have to wash his bottom and legs anyways so not too big of a deal for me.Can’t wait to try them out!

I got them for my 18th month old as a swim diaper initially. We were going on vacation and I hated the idea of having to take swim disposable diapers. I want to make greener choice… They size L fits great on my average size child and the bonus is we are now using it for potty training. Using this made my child more aware of her body. She is now 22 months and we are doing baby lead potty training (she started on her own at 21 months). Basically my child tells me she needs to go on the toilet and holds till we make it. I credit this to these diapers. One thing I like to add, I got 3 pairs for vacation. They do take a while to air dry, usually 12 hours, more if there is humidity, quicker if drying in dryer. I use these three everyday to make my child aware of her body… I would suggest getting more if you are planing on using them for potty training. I had bumgenieus 4 diapers and used them in combination, but they seem to be very tight and left marks on my child (they worked better when she was smaller). That said they are not completely wet proof, maybe I did not make them tight enough or maybe my child had more to drink at those times.Overall – they worked great for us! My child just turned 22 months and when we stay home we have 100% success when my child is awake. And I still use them for swimming!

These things are must haves. We do use them at the pool a lot but I bought several to use as training pants, too. It simplifies things for us beautifully and it makes spontaneous trips to the pool a more frequent occurrence. I recommend getting a few to add to your training pant arsenal.

I bought these as a baby gift for a friend of mine – almost as a lark as they looked so outrageous, but I must say they are just so bright & colorful I’m sure the new baby will love them! They are a welcome break from the ‘usual’ pastel colored bibs, although I’m not quite sure on the actual ‘absorbancy’ of the pink ‘furry’ one. They are fun & different for when the little princess goes ‘out on the town’ with Mommy :).

I was looking for a long-sleeved waterproof bib for my toddler-to-be, and I first purchased this Bumkins bib. However, when it came in the mail, I noticed that it was advertised as lead-safe. Why safe but not free? I e-mailed customer support at Bumkins. They said:”In the past, the government limits on lead content have allowed us to claim lead free. Because of an increased awareness of the chemicals in commercial products, we now conform to the requirements established by the CPSIA and label our products lead safe. The composition of our product has not changed and does not exceed the established limits. All our products pass stringent testing and are labeled according to the required standards.”BUT Kushies is lead-free. So I bought a Kushies long-sleeved bib for our 2nd bib (we like to have 2 to alternate between using/washing). Both have their pros and cons. Here are Bumkins’:PROS1. Neck-tie strap, makes it easier to adjust to my baby’s narrow neck and prevent food from falling between his neck and the bib. Also prevents him from pulling the bib off.2. Thicker material (feels studier, but maybe that’s why it’s not lead-free?)CONS1. Not lead-free (but BPA/PVC/phthalates-free)2. The lining stains easily and is VERY hard to clean (I scrubbed it a lot and it’s still stained). Kushies’ lining is made from the same taffeta waterproof fabric as the rest of the bib, whereas the Bumkins lining is not, so the Kushies one is way easier to clean.I really wanted to like the Bumkins one (and I do love the neck tie) but Kushies gets my vote for lead-free. And the easier to clean is a big bonus for busy parents as well.

These bibs used to be the greatest, thin silky completely waterproof and fast-drying material. But the company moved production from the US to China and it is just not the same now. I wanted an extra for the diaper bag but the one made in China is much thicker and quite stiff. I thought it might soften up with time, but it hasn’t after a few months of daily washings. It is waterproof, but the stiffness causes it to get in the baby’s way and because it doesn’t flow over baby’s lap, more food ends up on the clothes. It also is much harder to wash due to the stiffness, and takes a long time to dry because of the thickness. But if you can find one of the old ones made in the USA, those are great! I had one Superbib for a couple years and then when this sleeved one was so disappointing, I went to a baby store nearby and looked through their rack and they had one sleeved one left that had been made in the US of the better material, and that one is fabulous. The old style is so soft and supple, super-comfy for baby, and a breeze to wash (I just dunk it in dishwater and rinse) and dries amazingly fast.

I really wanted to like these, because I like the style of the bandana for wear throughout the day instead of a traditional bib. However, the best way to explain the material is cut-out sweatpants (like Hane’s) with iron on pictures. There are two snaps in the back that allow for a little adjustment, but not as much as velcro. For the price, I was expecting better quality.

My 4 month old has a bib on at all times and these bibs are so much cuter than having your baby in a regular bib! The material is really soft and washes well.

I bought these to feed my 4 mo baby rice cereal. I thought they would cover a larger amount of his chest and stomach. The are still very absorbent, very soft material, and very stylish–you could almost use them as an accessory.
