Good idea, bad quality

I was really excited when our local stores started to carry these bags. They are more rigid than other bags I’ve used, which I love, and the easy pour spout is ingenious. However, in the first 10 bags I used, I had 3 that leaked – immediately. Was very disappointed with the quality and will not be purchasing them again.

leaked milk

I love my Ameda purely yours pump and I have been pumping into bottles, then transferring the milk to Lansinoh bags and storing them in the freezer and fridge. Grandma then transfers the milk into bottles or drop in liners when she feeds my son. It just seems like too much transferring. I wonder about lost nutrients, and also having to wash/throw away things. So I thought these sounded like an awesome answer to my problem. First time I used them I was on my way home from work and noticed drips from my cooler. Never did I think a bag could leak like this. It looked like it was from the seal, although when I checked it, it seemed tightly sealed to me. But all 4 ounces formed a trail from my small office fridge, down the hall and steps, outside on the sidewalk, an in my car. It was maddening! I threw the rest of the bags out because I wasn’t going to risk that happening again. And up until that time I had never had a leak from a Lansinoh bag. I know I was careful to close the bag, but if you have to triple check, then it isn’t worth it to me. I was out at a store and bought the Medela pump and store bags like these. Then I read those reviews, and they are even worse! So I will return those and just use bottles and wash them and transfer to my bags like I have been doing. And by the way, I did just get my first leak from a Lansinoh bag too! This was a tiny little pin point hole in the bottom and was leaking very, very slowly into my fridge. I don’t know if I caused it from my cooler or moving them around in the fridge. They have that good double seal mechanism so I know the seals are good. But I’ll be keeping my eye on the them for a while to make sure this isn’t a re-occurrence.

ziplock seal isn’t great

This is the only breast milk storage bags I’ve used so I don’t really have anything to compare it too. But my biggest complaint is that the zipper seal doesn’t seal tight very well and leaks often. Because of that, I will probably buy a different kind next time.As other users have commented, the volume measurements are totally off because of the way the bag sits, but that wasn’t really a problem for me because I pumped into bottles, saw the measurements, then poured it into the bags.

WORKS GREAT

Couldn’t ask for a better pump! Does everything I need! For my daughters first month of life, she couldn’t latch on correctly so I pumped and fed her via bottle. No problems with this pump. I love it.

How to decide between this and a more expensive pump

I agonized over whether to buy this cheaper pump or go straight to one of the high-end ($250+) models. In an effort to save money I started with this one. But I quickly realized I’d made a mistake — it took *forever* to even get one ounce of milk. I ended up getting the Medela Pump In Style and loved it. I just wish I’d gone straight to that one and saved my money on this one.For those of you who are trying to decide between this or a more expensive model, here are my two cents:TRY THIS ONE IF…- You have a very abundant milk supply- You only plan to pump one or twice a month- You wouldn’t mind giving your baby formula if you had to be away from her for an extended periodINVEST THE MONEY IN A HIGHER-END MODEL IF…- You’re going back to work- Your milk supply is medium to low- You plan to pump more than two or three times per month- You are opposed to giving your baby any formula, ever (with a higher quality pump you could build up reserve breastmilk to have in case of an emergency)Also, it’s worth noting that most of the more expensive models can be safely re-used by other people so could be sold to someone else when you’re done (unlike this one).

Ouch

I bought this pump before leaving the hospital and it was a waste of money. It hurt like heck and did not express enough milk to relieve my engorgement. The motor cycles very slowly so when it’s tugging on me all I can think is ouch…ouch…ouch… I ended up buying a used Pump-in-Style online and love it. I can pump both sides at once in less than 10 minutes and have a good-sized bottle to show for it.

One sticky pad?!?

There is only one sticky pad in these. They do not stay put in a nursing bra, tank, or stuck to the inside of a night shirt. My cotton reusable pads stay in place just as well! If I pull the garment out of the way to nurse once, it’s a fight with these. I like the cup shape and how they absorb, but they don’t stay in place. I don’t leak much though, so I don’t know how well they would work for someone that leaks more.

Liked The Old Ones

I have been using Avent breast pads since 2006. They were my absolute favorite pads. Now, Phillips changes them. Now, instead of being the unique pads they were, they are just like every other breast pad on the market. If I wanted a Lansinoh style pad, I’d buyLansinoh 20265 Disposable Nursing Pads, 60-pack. These are much larger in diameter than the old ones. They are significantly thinner, too. But don’t think that means they don’t show- they still show. The edges on the large diameter pad bunch and itch, particularly on the underside of the breast. I’m not a fan. Very disappointed. Yeah, it is an average pad. It is just like every other pad on the market, which I do not like. Why mess with a good thing? Why remake something that was unique into the same thing everyone else makes? It is frustrating, for sure.

Lightweight

So I really like these. Been using them for a few years (each time I give birth). The only thing I don’t like is now they come individually wrapped whereas they didn’t before. So now it creates an extra step of having to unwrap it and then toss them (more garbage too). But they work great. Def catches any leaks!

Not recommended.

I didn’t buy mine from amazon but from their website using free coupons. I had to pay for shipping which was quite expensive ($11). I wanted to return the item but I was informed that I cannot do so because I used a coupon for it. Anyway, the reason why I wanted to return this nursing cover is that the material is really cheap. The material is stiff, thin, and poorly made. It does not provide a good coverage while you are nursing as well. It is not worth the shipping cost. I would not recommend this product.

Toxic

I did not order my Udder Cover from Amazon, I ordered mine off of Under Cover’s website with a gift card and only paid shipping. This item arrived drenched in formaldehyde (Made in China) after researching online I found that using formaldehyde on clothing is very common and that toxic levels are found on materials from China. It is used on a lot of clothes, but China does not regulate formaldehyde levels on clothing like the US. To me, any formaldehyde level on clothing is toxic, and I definitely don’t want it around my infant. I am disappointed and have to throw this in the trash.

Perfect for public nursing

This is actually the second one of these covers by Udder Covers that I have purchased. I love these, because living in Texas with a summer-time baby, these are the perfect thickness. When you get the package, the wire for the neck need to be shaped, but that is the only thing that you really need to do. I have seen others that are thicker material, but I prefer the thin material. It doesn’t take much room in my bag, and I can put it on using one hand. I just leave the neck part a little big and slip it on over my head. I do wish that the material could be a little longer and wider, but it works for me. I use this cover daily to nurse my daughter when I am out in public, and the other cover has faired well in the wash. The material does get wrinkled, but I can live with that. I am overall very happy with the product. This is the same brand of cover that you get a promo code when you are pregnant from when you buy maternity clothes and that are included with your baby magazines. It was offered at a better price here.

Dependable Cloth Nursing Pad

…so many choices! As a nursing mom, I would prefer to use washable nursing pads to save money and decrease waste. But what options do we moms have? After studying amazon.com, I saw 12 different companies under “washable nursing pads” at the start of this project. Each one offered slightly different products. I’m working to test each product I can get a sample of. I believe most products fit one or more specific needs. I hope my research helps you make the best choice for your needs. So far, each brand’s strengths were as follows:>Kushies (3star)absorbed moisture immediately so they were the best inner doublers,>La Leche League (3star)appearance was best for use in B/C nursing bras,>Medela (2star) was easy to find in stores and absorption improved with time,>NuAngel (4star)was very affordable. “White/patterns” absorb a bit faster than “natural” so I like to put “natural” as an outer doubler and “white/patterns” as inner doubler during heavy let-downs.If you only drip a few drops during let-down any one of these brands would be fine. Read further if moderate to heavy let-downs are common. All products were machine washable, free samples, and pre-washed in hot or warm water and cold rinse at least once before use unless otherwise noted. No fabric softeners were applied as they can cause repelling. All samples were used at least a month before final opinions were noted.Categories: dry shirt test, rate of absoption, appearance, leakage, light use, heavy night use, doubler. Hopefully a washable pad out there can improve on these statistics. I just haven’t met it yet. I’m still hopeful that the other 2/3 of these brands can provide a more efficient answer. Not much to it..

I bought these since I always just spaghetti strap sports bras now that it’s more convenient to nurse but the bras are thin and I hate it when "I’m cold" and it’s visible haha. I was using disposables which we’re easy but I realized how much I was wasting since I don’t really leak. These pads a thick enough for coverage but there’s no curve to it so it’s lumpy and doesn’t give your boobs a nice shape when wearing fitted clothes. These remind me of those cheap removable pads that come in bra tops. I might as well have just bought those for cheaper.

works, but…

Ordered this to save time on trips to and from the NICU while pumping for my preterm baby. Technically, it does work. Provides adequate power and I saw no difference in suction from a normal wall outlet. HOWEVER — and this is a big however — the pump end of the connector is too long. So much so that it causes a loose connection and falls out at the slightest bump. Giant pain in the ass. I would have returned it if I’d been able to find an alternative.

Better things out there

The lactation consultants at the hospital raved about these, but I didn’t find them that great. They feel great cold, but that wears off in 15 seconds and they can’t be cleaned so they get grimy quickly. If you drop them on the floor and have the wash them off it shortens their life. I preferred the hard shells that are available from most brands that support breastfeeding. They are hard plastic covers that allow air to circulate around your nipples, which is key to them healing quickly. Also, the hard shells keep fabric or breast pads from rubbing against your nipples. Personally, though they felt good, I didn’t feel like they expedited healing.

Doesn’t stick to breast, but I think it contributed to thrush

I had a lot of tissue damage when I first started breastfeeding, and these were the only thing that didn’t stick to my damaged breasts because they contain moisture. Unfortunately, they don’t allow the breasts to breathe, so I think they contributed to thrush. I didn’t get thrush because of them, but they can certainly allow it to develop. So use with caution.Do not use with lansinoh ointment or anything that adds to the moisture. ComfortGel Pads do seem to deteriorate after time, so only use for a max of 6 days.

An absolute necessity for a nursing mother

With my daughter I had sore, cracked nipples for almost 2 months. If it wasnt for the fact that I was so determined (and stubborn) I would have given up breastfeeding. With baby #2, my worst fear came true. I could feel my nipples cracking the minute he latched on. With both kids, the lactation consultants told me the latch and positioning were correct, and they couldn’t see anything wrong. Unfortunately that didnt do much to give me any relief! Luckily the last lactation consultant I saw recommended these and swore that I would be thanking her within days. She was so right! I’m not sure what these things do or how they work, but they gave me immediate relief and have prevented any further damage. I’ve been wearing them about a week (since my son was born) and they have been a lifesaver. I still have some pain with the initial latch on, but I can tell everything is healing quickly. I bought two pairs and I think after I wear the second ones for a week or so I should be set. I did use these in conjuction with a Medela nipple shield, so I’m sure that helped. It didnt make the process completely pain free, but definitely bearable!

Great product if needing to supplement!

This product is a lifesaver if you’re needing to supplement. I’ve purchased three of these and I have to supplement on a long-term basis and these are fantastic. Make sure to have the yellow piece and the membrane put together well and snapped into the system or else it will leak. Otherwise a great product. You can also use ready to feed bottles instead of the bottle it comes with as they screw onto the feeder as well.

A syringe and feeding tube worked better for us

The item didn’t work for us becuase we had a syringe and feeding tube we were using from the hospital to help get baby at the breast more in order to help my milk supply (which was only marginally improved and we still had to supplement 50% of the time with formula even though we started using this technique within hours after birth). The tubing is much more soft than the feeding tube we were used to an only had one hole at the end. As such, our baby found it harder to maintain in position and also didn’t like that the flow was slow if even with my breast or too fast if in any other positon. Also since the tubing is very flexible you need to use tape which we didn’t have to do with the syringe, it was a hassle to need about 3 pieces of paper tape each time. After trying to make it work for us for about 10 feedings, we went back to buying syringes and feeding tubes (that adhere to syringe) to encourage time at breast. At one month, since my milk supply hadn’t improved, we decided to use a bottle instead and didn’t even use that at all.It would have been nice to know that the tubing was very soft and that it only had one whole. We did like the large capacity of it compared to 10cc syringes and we didn’t have any of the trouble with leaks as some reviewers have described. We never had one leak. It just didn’t work for our baby.

Great relief.. “Soothes” as the name would imply

I had 2 sets of these sent home with me from the hospital and they were AMAZING! I found them so soothing for all of the soreness and cracking that comes with breastfeeding in those first few days/weeks. The paper breast pads just felt horrible on your sensitive nipples those first few weeks! They are cool on contact, which feels great! I did not ever have any problems with sticking upon removal, as some of the other reviewers mentioned. I always used mine at full size and did not cut to shape. I found this worked best. The only problem with that was that when you’re engorged and leaking at night, the milk will leak around the soothies & sometimes miss the breast pads leaving you waking up to a big mess! I wore both. I put the Soothies on first and a breast pad behind. It might be less of a surprise mess if you do cut them down a bit, but, they have a tendency to shift positions, so, I wouldn’t cut them down too much. Overall, a great product which provided much needed cool relief during the beginning stages of breastfeeding!

Waste of $

I got these one day when I left my normal breast pads at home. I didn’t need them to soothe me at all just keep me from leaking at work. They can only be used for 48 hrs so $13 for 2 days is crazy. They puffed up when I leaked into them and very quickly warmed up. Not very soothing. Not very absorbent. Waste of $. If you need something to soothe, take a cloth nursing pad and get it damp and put it in the freezer. That stays cold much longer.

Go with the Ameda Gel pads instead

I purchased these prior to delivery anticipating the discomfort that comes with beginning breastfeeding. At the hospital the lactation consultant gave me the Ameda gel pads, which I used first. Once those were done (they lasted 6 days) I opened the Soothies. I was discouraged to find that the Soothies have adhesive that sticks TO YOUR NIPPLE! You have to wash your nipple prior to breastfeeding, which is a huge pain in the a when you have a brand new baby! Plus pulling adhesive off of sore, cracked, bleeding nipples is PAINFUL! I used these twice and gave up.My advice is to purchase the Ameda pads – they last 3 times as long as these as long as you keep them moist when not in use. The don’t have adhesive and feel amazing!
