Different concept pump with spectacular customer service!

I am an avid believer in the benefits and importance of breastfeeding, and I am exclusively breastfeeding my daughter to at least 6 months. The World Health Org recommends exclusively breastfeeding to 7 months to prevent anemia (though my doctor tried to convince me to start iron-fortified rice cereal at 4 months to prevent anemia, this is actually incorrect – the baby’s "open" gastro-intestinal system cannot absorb solids at this age, and this can actually increase anemia). I went back to work when my baby was 3 months old and I’m pumping or hand expressing a minimum of 3 times a day, so it’s very important for me to have a pump that I can rely on, and that won’t make me sore.After reading reviews on this pump, I knew this was the one for me. I used the Playtex Deluxe pump as well as a hospital grade Medela pump (the Lactina), pumping three times a day, and they were both very painful and damaging to my nipples. I would have to take days off from pumping and use hand expressing instead to get milk, just to give myself a chance to heal. The Simplisse pump is very different from these pumps. It uses a compression technique that mimics the way a baby breastfeeds, combined with minimal suction, to express milk. Having previously used other pumps that rely solely on suction to express milk, there is a transition to using this pump. At first, my body did not respond to the compression technique, and I had to use the strongest suction setting to get milk. However, after a few days, my body adjusted to the pump, and though it takes about 5 minutes longer than the Medela or Playtex pump, I can successfully pump 3 times a day without cringing from soreness or rawness! This is absolutely vital to the continued success of my breastfeeding, so I am very happy with this pump!One thing to note: it is a louder pump than the other pumps – as the compression technique works, it makes clicking noises. However, with the door to my office closed, it is not loud enough to be heard outside the closed door. I don’t consider this a show stopper. Some reviewers note that there are a lot of parts to put together, but this is the case for any breast pump system – there are a lot of small parts. If you plan on pumping, you learn to adapt to this inconvenience. I don’t find the Simplisse pump any more difficult or cumbersome than the others. The pump instructions note that all parts should be washed except for the hoses, but the collection cap and sealing insert don’t come in contact with milk, so they can be left assembled and don’t need to be washed (at least not every time).The customer service team is absolutely incredible! I called because I was having some trouble with one of the collection units – the suction wasn’t as effective as the other side – and they are over-nighting an entirely new collection package to me, for both sides, not just the one, including hoses. This is at no cost to me! With customer service like this, it makes the product that much more valuable. The customer service rep also mentioned that they keep a lactation consultant on staff to help customers with pumping/ expressing issues. What great customer service!It may help users to note that small neck bottles fit into the collection units. I use my Medela, Playtex (small neck only) and Dr. Brown’s bottles with no trouble at all. The Simplisse bottles that come with the pump only have markers to 3 oz, but they hold 4 oz. However, I frequently am able to pump more than 4 oz per side, so I can’t use the Simplisse bottles to pump into. But the caps fit any small neck bottle, including my Dr. Brown’s, with no trouble, so I use them for that.I would definitely recommend this pump, especially if you need to pump multiple times a day. The only suggestion that I would have to improve this pump is that the little valves that funnel milk into the bottle don’t have a closing mechanism, so if you tipped the collection unit upside down with full bottles of milk, milk would flow up into the sealing insert. However, the sealing insert would prevent the flow of milk into the closed system hoses. It’s not a problem, but it could be a minor improvement. All in all, definitely worth the money – I’m thrilled with this pump!

Wonderful

My little one has a fave breast so when he is done after a multiple feeds; the other breast is engorged and very tender. The favorite breast is also tender. The sim plissé pump handles both breasts more gently than my son; and is great for relieving engorged breasts with slightly blocked ducts. With little to no pain!!!! Love the simplisse customer service too!

Can’t wait to use it

I am a first time mommy to be. I was worried about a breast pumped being painful, reading reviews of other brands and have sensitive nipples/breasts. I was gonna go with medela, but chose Dr Browns instead. I followed the instructions just so I know how to set it up and take it apart and I attached it to my breast for only 5 seconds to try it out, because I know pumping before you even start to lactate isn’t good, and it didn’t hurt at all. I feel confident that I will be able to supply milk for my son. My only compliant, and this is personal preference, is that the carry bag is so huge. I’m used to carrying small purses that cross over my body that fit just my wallet, keys and phone, to me this is like the size of an airplane carry-on. There is no way I am carrying this to work with me, I’ll have to find another bag to carry the pump safely in to and from work. Maybe this can serve as a diaper bag or traveling bag, but I’m likely to carry a smaller bag for a diaper bag too. Other than that everything is wonderful and I am actually excited to start producing milk so I can use it and feed my baby/stock up on milk. It also comes with milk bags.

My son loves this

My son plays with this in his crib every day. We’ve had it for about 6 months (he’s 20 months now) and he still loves it. He pushes the piano buttons and does a little dance in his crib in the morning when he wakes up. Each piano key plays a little tune when it’s pressed. It has occasionally been a distraction when he’s fighting his sleep at night, but that should be expected when it’s such a great distraction tool for the morning.It attaches to his crib securely and he can’t move it around (unlike a waterfall toy he has that he can filp over the side of his crib).

So much fun

This is actually a much more interactive and fun product than I thought it was going to be. It is perfect for hanging in the crib so your baby has something to keep themselves busy for a few minutes. It is heavy and I am not certain that the straps are the best so you might want to hang it at the foot of the crib just in case! We haven’t had a problem with the straps yet but it seems like there could be a better way to anchor it to the crib.

Little one loves this

This piano is simple but it has quickly become one of my daughter’s favorite toys. We were unable to use it in the crib because it just doesn’t fit properly so she has it as a floor toy and loves the setting where when she plays a key a color lights up. All-in-all a good buy.

NOT as Pictured

I ordered this feeding set for my 20 month old daughter. She is obsessed with playing mommy and was trying to feed her babydoll or stuffed animals from her own sippy cups and this looked like a fun alternative. She’s happy with the product, but I was really disappointed. It is not at all as described. There was no pacifier and no bib, and the juice comes in a regular small bottle- not a sippy cup. Also, the bottom of the milk bottle is slightly rounded, so it does not sit upright and frustrates my daughter when it falls over after she sets it down. The milk bottle makes drinking, burping and crying sounds when you press on the end, which is not in the product description. I would have preferred the 4-piece set described, and probably would have ordered one that doesn’t make sounds if I realized what I would actually be receiving.

A favorite toy!

My daughter received this in her stocking at Christmas. The bib is not very useful as she can’t tie it herself. The "paci" is looking a little worse for wear as it always seems to find it’s way into her mouth, rather than her dolls. The juice and milk are both as expected… just like ones I had as a child. While the quality is nothing special, these are a HUGE hit with my almost 2-year-old. She loves her baby and these are her favorite accessories. She loves giving her baby milk and "smoothies" (we don’t drink juice so she thinks it’s a smoothie!). The baby, both bottles and paci go everywhere with us. While they’re a bit of a pain to keep track of while out and about they keep her so well entertained it’s worth it.

Cute durable set

The milk and OJ bottles are really adorable and better quality than the BABYDOLL Magic DOLL Bottles.The bib is really cute too. Fits the JC Toys La Baby perfectly. The pacifier is cute too but a too big to fit the mouth of a 11" JC Toys La Baby. Oh well, I knew I was taking a chance there. Cute set no matter what. Great price for $6.

Great for kiddos

My daughter loves this, the only way they could improve it is to make it machine washable. It is a blanket after all, I have had to resort to washing it in the machine despite the tag saying to only surface wash and it turned out fine.

buy several!

My daughter (6 months) loves this little snuggly and now I’ve been recommending it to all my friends. I chose the Ellie blanket since she has an extra knotted section (the trunk) and have since purchased a back up Ellie so I can rotate the two and can put one in my bag when we leave the house. It’s perfect for sleep association and, at least for my daughter, helps her sleep in the carseat when she’s gotten overexcited while out and about and gets fussy before falling asleep. I just throw Ellie in back and she’ll quiet immediately before passing out. I love that this isn’t a full stuffed animal as they are tougher to wash and dry and are just bulkier in the bed for infants to be snuggling with, yet it still has the fluffy head. My daughter is obsessed with touching the little tuft of white hair on top and also she’ll chew on the little knotted ends or will rub them on her face while she falls asleep. If you’ve got an especially tactile little one, do not hesitate and buy this snuggly. It will come especially in handy during hot summer nights when you don’t want a blanket on them but they still need something soft to caress to self soothe and fall asleep.

I love the bottles, but the nipple flow is too fast for a newborn …

I love the bottles, but the nipple flow is too fast for a newborn … My baby keeps on chocking and spitting up when using the nipple when she was just born. But now, she got use it and can manage the nipple and the flow better. She is not fussy after drinking, and she can burp very easily, so that no gas stays in her little tummy. The bottles are very easy to clean, I don’t even need the brush, just wash them with regular sponge.

terrific bottles

Great bottles, easy to clean because they are wide mouths. There are only 4 parts- bottle, nipple, nipple connector, and lid. Dishwasher safe and light enough for baby to hold. All of the Avent bottle parts are interchangeable and grow with baby, nipples may be switched from the newborn (comes with this kit) to higher flows, then to sippy parts and handles. 4oz is perfect for each feeding for 0-6mon babies.

Good but not great (in my daughter’s eyes)

I purchased these in hopes that my new born daughter would be able to handle the milk better than the other bottles that she had. The problem we were facing was that even with the slow flowing nipples other brands offered the milk would come too fast for my daughter and she would start to choke. Since the tops of these were more like a real nipple I was hoping that when she pressed against them she could control them more. It helped some but was still not ideal. I can’t fault Phillips for that. I am sure that every kid is different. The one thing that I wish was different about the product though was that it would be great if it would hold just one more ounce. My daughter already eats more than these hold and she is only 4 months hold. Other than that minor gripe these have been great.

BEST Diaper Holder with NO Odors ! ! (NOT ANYMORE!)

~~~~Updated Comment~~~~ Oct. 26, 2008The lid broke for the second time. I called Customer Service and they wouldn’t help me. (No thanks to Jennifer and ‘Manager’ Sarah who never returned my call.) So, the top broke again in less than 9 months and they said it was past warranty and that was that.This item has now broken on me TWICE. Despite my former rave reveiws, I’d love to also give it ZERO stars because now it’s only a receptacle for us–as good as a plain old garbage can.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~OLD, NAIVE REVIEW:We had a Diaper Genie, it’s a total waste of money and plastic. The Diaper Genie was so hard to use and didn’t do anything to stop odors. My son’s room smelled as if we threw the diapers in an open garbage. We replaced it with THE FIRST YEARS CLEAN AIR DIAPER DISPOSAL SYSTEM. It’s awesome!The greatest thing about it is that it can store about 6-7 days of my son’s diapers without NO yucky odors. WOW!! It has a “clean air” venting system which is totally 100% silent. I actually though it was broken because it made NO noise! It runs on D batteries that last about 9 months. There is a little light that briefly flashes to let you know that the lid is secure and the vent system is working. It uses regular tall kitchen garbage bags–saving us money.The only drawback is that occasionally you will shut the lid and it won’t fully secure. You’d know that by two clues, the first being that the little green light won’t flash. Later you’ll get the second clue–your baby’s room will start to smell! I now check to see if the light is on each time I put a diaper in to make sure the lid is secure.We love this product so much. Our son’s room smells clean with no poopy odors, and we save money by using our own tall kitchen bags. It’s also very easy to change–no confusing bag twisting.I highly recommend using this diaper holder, it’s the best!
Terrible product
This product seemed like it would work so well, but in reality it is terrible!1) Lightweight diapers don’t actually fall through hole. You have to poke them through.2) It is really loud when you close the lid. The clamps snap shut and are way too loud.3) Top heavy – it wants to fall over and has fallen over multiple times4) The lid does not want to latch half the time.
Bernice Ecru, MS
★★★★★
If Only
The only drawback to this product is the loud noise it makes when you close the lid and the fact that it only takes D batteries and doesn’t have a plug in option. But then again who cares about the noise? Who really changes a diaper while their baby is asleep. And while the noise is nothing more than a loud pop if it bothers your baby then you seriously should start exposing your child to some noise, silence isn’t good for children, LOL, just adults.Besides my complaints, it is ingenious. for the first time I don’t have to spend additional money to buy refills because it uses my kitchen trash bags which is a HUGE plus! ! ! And it has a clean cut stylish look to it. It doesn’t look like just another trash bin. The air filters last a full 90 days before you have to change them which is also about the time you have to change the batteries. Each air filter refill box comes with two air filters for $10-$14 and you can’t beat that. Thats only approx. $20 a year plus the cost of batteries and trash bags. And inside the lid are two additional compartments for storing extra filters and batteries so they are right there when you need them.To use all you have to do is open the lid drop in the diaper and close the lid. The trash bag doesn’t actually open up until you are already closing the lid so at most you only catch a quick sniff of the contents.
Very cute, but….
Very cute set, but my 6 month old twins aren’t ready for them yet. They are a bit heavy, and of course hard and plastic, so every time they tried to play with them, they would drop it and hurt themselves 🙁 I will introduce these again to them when they are a bit older and stronger.
Baby Loves these
I bought these back when my daughter was 4 months approx. She is nearly 10 months now and still teethes on the teething parts. She also loves the mirror and the rattly parts she can see and it’s really cute when she puts them on her arm/wrist. They are perfect also for the diaper bag/traveling since they are a good size and don’t make annoying noises that might disturb others in the doctors office or where-ever you need to go. Also, since they are gel like and plastic they are simple to wipe clean and disinfect.
Bright and colorful wooden balls
Our son has been interested in balls since he was just a couple of months old, so when I saw this toy I thought it would be the perfect clutching toy for him. We have the classic ball rattle. It is very well-made, wooden with very bright, pretty colors and it can be manipulated and balls will clack against each other. I had high hopes for this becoming a popular toy with my son, but over the months as he got older he didn’t express much interest in it. He would pick it up every so often and hold it for about 10 seconds and then drop it. He is 17 months now and he will pick up the toy sometimes and say “ball” and try to pull them apart. It seems he would like them to be separated, probably so he can throw them and play with them like a regular ball, though we have plenty of those around the house. So all in all, for us this toy didn’t really work out, though I don’t know that is was necessarily because of a bad design, just our son’s personal preference.
Heavy, but fun
My 5 month-old son received this for Christmas. He enjoys trying to hold onto it, but it is just a tad too heavy for him yet. That said, my 2 year-old loves handling the “beads” and moving them around and around, so it has made a great “fidget” toy for him. The beads are very bright, just like in the picture. The toy also seems quite durable, as we have dropped it on hard floors a number of times already without any damage.
great changing pad
I ordered this based on these reviews here and because it was $7 less than Babies R Us for a similar eco friendly changing pad. This pad didn’t have the same paper insert listing all of the organic/eco friendly assets that the changing pad has or the same print on the pad as the Babies R Us pad did, but this pad didn’t smell like plastic when it came out of the package so I didn’t have a problem using it for my daughter. I am not an everything must be organic type of mom, but I just wanted a pad that was well made, and didn’t reek like chemicals. It seems to be very well made, and worst case scenario if something happens to it within the first year of ownership it’s guaranteed for one year! Another plus was that is Made in the USA. If you want all of the eco friendly labels and a little bit cuter sheep print then go to BRUS and buy their organic Serta changing pad, but if it’s not a huge deal then just save a $ and get this one instead.
love it!
I love this! I never got a changing table, due to the fact that I had bought a graco pack ‘n play and that came with a changing-station-type-thing but as my daughter got bigger (she’s 7 months now), I got more & more worried that I’d be changing her and all of a sudden, she’d just fall and get hurt, so I had been changing her on the floor and wanted her to be more comfortable so when I saw this for only $25, I had to get it because it’s vinyl, so it wipes down clean and it has the cutest design. I got it the day after I ordered it..I’m not kidding. so I just put this on the floor and it’s wonderful! you don’t even need an actual changing table to put it on, unless you wanna spend the money to get one. I definitely recommend this.
An Excellent Buy
We purchased this swing for our newborn son based on the fact that my wife uses one at the daycare she works at. Perhaps the biggest selling point for us was the fact that you have the option of using a plug-in adapter or batteries. Since just about every other item used for a baby takes batteries, it was nice to finally see a product with an A/C adapter. Other features that we like are the side-to-side or front-to-back swinging option, the wonderful mobile which features up-and-down movement, and the music/rainfall noises. All of these options work independently of one another, which makes this product even more appealing. We haven’t had any problem with the swinging (or lack thereof) that others seem to be having. Sure, the swing doesn’t move very fast, but I don’t think my son is quite ready for roller coaster speeds just yet. My son seems very content while he naps in the swing as well.Overall, I think that this swing is an excellent purchase for anyone in the market for one. While it may not have the strongest motor, it has plenty of other options that make it a good buy.Highly recommended.
A decent product for a limited time
We bought this swing the day we brought our son home from the hospital. For a new baby, it is perfect. It reclines far so that a wobbly-headed baby can lay comfortably. The gentle rocking relaxes baby and puts baby to sleep. At that age, he wasn’t at all interested in the mobile.As he has gotten older, the swing has grown fairly well with him. We haven’t had issues with the swing petering out, the music stopping, or any of the other technical issues parents have mentioned in previous reviews. We have never used the tray, so I don’t really have any opinion on that feature. I can say that from about 6 weeks through 3 months, our son LOVED the mobile and he has always loved the music, especially the natural water one with the animal sounds.Now that he is 4 months old, he is almost 26 inches long and he takes up almost the whole swing. I can’t sit him with his bottom in the actual dip because his head nearly touches the metal bar that holds the swing. He also likes to sit upright now and this swing does not have a totally upright setting, so he gets frustrated in it unless he is tired. The swinging motion is starting to go a little slower at this point, so I think that at 16 lbs he is already outgrowing it. It is supposedly good up to 25 lbs, but I don’t think it will make it past 20. It has been great while it lasted, though.———————————————————-We retired the swing when my son turned 5 months old at about 18 lbs. It could have gone longer, but it had started squeaking as it went back and forth, so it is definitely not good up to 25 lbs. It was difficult making the conversion from the swing, but we got through it! He REALLY loved his swing! Despite this not being good through the maximum weight limit advertised, I still feel that this product was worth the money.
Just doesn’t live up to the original
We had the duckie cradle swing (short lived production period) when my son was a baby. That swing put him into a coma for naps from 2 months till 6 months and saved my sanity many times. The only drawback was the battery factor… it chewed through D cells like no one’s business. We kept it, hoping for another baby… and ended up with twins.A friend of a friend lent us her rainforest swing and I was stoked – coma for naps and NO BATTERIES!Unfortunately it’s just not as good as it sounds. It didn’t swing as high and it didn’t swing as fast … the mobile was slow, one of the leaves stopped flapping before we got it, and it wasn’t in a good spot for baby to even view it … the seat is different. It’s easier to recline and seems more comfy BUT instead of being all one piece that tilts back or forward, only the back tilts or comes forward, which is not so good for a reflux baby – squishes the stomach SLIGHTLY more. (one of my twins we have dubbed “the spit up queen” so I am more attuned to these things than I care to be… it’s OK if the back is reclined but not it you try to tilt it up)Neither of my twins cared for this swing at all – they would sit in it and look bored and then start to fuss and then start to cry until you took them out – they preferred the duckie swing. It worked its coma magic on them just like my son. I ended up buying a used aquarium swing (same concept only with music and lights in addition to the mobile) and they are so much happier. The aquarium swing is rigged up to plug in instead of use batteries so everyone is happy.Skip the rain forest swing – look for an aquarium or duckie swing. For what it’s worth – people are complaining a lot about the rainforest motor dying… my son’s duckie swing and the aquarium swing i bought are from 2003 and both are churning away strong as ever – maybe the quality was better then?
