Such a pretty little crib!
After much deliberation (my son is 6 months old and we still hadn’t purchased a crib!) I decided to buy a mini crib. It was a great price and I thought it would work better in my son’s tiny nursery than a regular full sized crib. I am SO glad I bought this crib! It’s small enough so that I was able to have it next to my bed as sort of a “co sleeper” but then when we moved it into my son’s room it looked perfect in there. A full sized crib would have been way too big. This crib was fairly easy to put together – I did most of it by myself until the end when I needed my husband’s help. It is well-made and the finish is beautiful. We love the espresso color. We love that we can use it as a head and foot board later on when he’s in a twin sized bed. I bought the CRESCENT MINI CRIB 50 COIL MATTRESS by Da Vinci to use instead of the ridiculously thin mattress that came with it. The mattress I bought is the same thickness as a regular crib mattress and fits perfectly. The ONLY place (that I have found) that sells crib sheets that will fit this particular mattress is […] (they are 25 dollars a piece! But very well made, and I think worth it). We also bough the breathable bumper in white for mini cribs. FITS PERFECTLY! All and all, we are extremely happy with this purchase. No disappointments. We were able to find accessories that work with it as well.
I bought this mini-crib for our fourth baby. The crib went together really easily and the directions were clear enough. This crib also comes with a “mattress” which I didn’t know. However, the “mattress” that comes with it is only 1″ thick. I bought a 3″ thick mattress to go with it, and am very happy I did.The color of the crib surprised me a bit. The description said “honey oak” but the crib looks more like pine. It was much lighter than I anticipated. (I just assumed it would be a bit darker than what was pictured, since it said “oak”. However, the crib is exactly the color that is in the picture. I really shouldn’t have been so surprised, since it is exactly as pictured.)Also, the mattress support on this crib is not like that of a traditional crib. I was a little disappointed in that, because the mattress support does not seem very substantial and I am pretty sure it won’t hold up as well as a traditional size crib. The mattress support on this mini-crib is a flat support- a thin board boxed in with wood. The thin board does make me a bit nervous about the durability. I doubt this crib will get much use past 9 months for that reason.
Nice crib, but mattress pad has a warning!
I like the crib, but was very disappointed that the mattress came with a California warning stating it has carcinogens as well as can cause reproductive harm and birth defects. I still think the crib is worth it without the pad and the pad is considered "safe" by many states standards, but I will not use it. This really needed to be stated in the description so people could consider that when purchasing it.1 hint for putting it together I wish I had thought of: To avoid scratches when attaching the bottom piece where the mattress sits, I wish I had covered the screws with bandaids and then removed them when it was attached.Cute, sturdy crib that is the perfect size for small spaces.
Excellent for small rooms
This crib is perfect for our small apartment bedroom. The crib is very well made and looks amazing. It looks way more expensive than what we paid for it. I love that it matches our furniture too. I bought the suggested crescent mini crib 50 coil mattress and it fits perfectly in the crib.
We have a one bedroom apartment and needed a smaller crib for our baby. This crib works perfectly in our home. The crib arrived in great condition. No scratches, no dents, no dings, nothing! It was very easy to assemble if you read the directions. There are a few holes where you put the screws in and there are no “plugs” to put in holes, but honestly, who is looking that closely at your crib? Now if we could just get baby to sleep in the crib…
Beautiful and Sturdy!
We bought the DaVinci Kalani Mini Crib (in white) for our soon-to-arrive daughter because it’s the mini version (made by the same company) of the Baby Mod Cadence Crib, which our toddler son now sleeps in. We love it just as much as our son’s crib. It’s sturdy and easy to assemble, and looks a lot better than many of the other cribs on the market. It’s the same size (length and width) as our Pack N Play, but much taller. It looks as if it will last our girl for the first year, at which point we’ll turn it into a twin bed for her big brother. My only complaint is that the mattress that comes with it is horrible. It’s flimsy and doesn’t fit the crib tightly enough, leaving a gap between the mattress and the sides of the crib (I know up to an inch is allowed on each side, but I prefer a tighter fit). We ended up buying the Naturepedic Organic Portacrib Mattress, and it fits BETTER than the mattress the crib came with. It’s a much tighter fit and much less flimsy. We also went with the Carter’s Portacrib Sheets, and they fit perfectly. Some other reviewers were worried about the seemingly flimsy MDF board that is the base for the mattress. It looks fine for supporting an infant’s weight and activity level. I think by the age that toddlers start really jumping around in their cribs (around 15-18 months for our son) the crib will have been outgrown anyway. As a side note: A lot of people complain about the visible hardware in these cribs, but don’t realize that they can’t put wooden plugs in to cover the screws, because that would be a choking hazard for the baby. Also, the hardware has to be accessible, so that the crib can later be converted to a bed. I feel like DaVinci/Baby Mod actually has some of the better-looking hardware of many of the cribs on the market.
Good mini crib
I bought the DaVinci mini crib for my mom’s house when she watches my daughter. I am a RN and do a lot of research on safety and durability of products. My husband and I have the davinci Kalani crib full size at home, with which we are very pleased with! The mini crib does not disappoint.PRO: Quality: Solid wood. Solid workmanship. Sturdy. Safe, DaVinici has one the highest safety ratings for cribs. Three levels to lower the mattress for safety. Good aesthetically pleasing design. It converts to a single sized toddler bed.CON: Soft wood can scratch. Yes as previously reviews states the mattress that come with the crib IS NOT a mattress and you need to buy one. Yes the DaVinci mini crib dimensions are different than other mini cribs and you can not buy just any mattress since they will not fit correctly and not be safe. Time saver: buy the Dream on Me 3”coil spring mattress and you will be set, Cheaper than the DaVinci mattress. The platform in which the mattress lies does look like particle board and not like the spring platform on the full size, but after testing with weighted elements and movements it is very safe and once covered with the mattress it is a non issue.Of course the mini crib is mini, so it is smaller, obviously it will not be a good fit for a large baby or for a long crib duration. My daughter loves curling into a ball and squishing her self next to the sleep sheep so we are fine with the size.
Nice looking, economical, and efficient.
I bought the espresso color mini crib. It was easy to assemble. It looks classy, accommodates small spaces, and weighs very light.
This mini crib is so cute. It has a great finish and along with the davinici 50 coil 5" mattress it has the same look and feel as a regular size crib only on a smaller scale which I love since we have limited space. My little girl also seems to love it. She sleeps in it just as well as my other kids did in their regular size cribs. It is easy to put together and easy to move the mattress down when needed. My daughter now has two bottom teeth though and has teethed on one side (the other is by the wall so she can’t chew it and the back and front are rounded so she hasn’t chewed those either), but as a result the inside of that one side has bald spots from the missing stain. Not sure if the sell teething guards for mini cribs, but this might be something to consider for the sides at least to keep this from happening. It isn’t a major deal as some light sanding and stain will make it look new again, but if you plan to keep for another child it would be easier to prevent this to begin with if possible. Overall, that isn’t a reason not to buy the crib though since that would happen regardless of the crib and this one is a great crib. I highly recommend it!!
A Perfect Mini Crib!
I love it, and my grandson loves it too! This is a perfect crib for a small bedroom. It gives the baby a lot of room for his own. He doesn’t need to sleep in the same bed with Mommy and Daddy anymore!
I was looking for a bassinet for our upcoming baby, but realized she would quickly outgrow it. I decided to purchase this much sturdier, space saving crib. We already had a crib from out last child but in our small bedroom I wanted to have a crib close that didn’t take up much space. This is great! I put it together today (7months pregnant) by myself and it took less than an hour. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. It is very sturdy and I am very happy with the quality of the finish and solid wood. I’m sure we will enjoy it for many years to come. Also as listed in other posts, I purchased the 5inch mattress to use with it, which works great. Very happy with this purchase!
I was nervous about purchasing a mini crib without seeing it in person. After we put this together, which was fairly simple, it fit perfect in my kids’ bedroom. Great for siblings who will be sharing a room and a very sturdy product.
Sturdy, safe, good for small spaces (and little babies)
Our baby sleeps in the room with us, and this crib works well in our small bedroom. It’s aesthetically pleasing, sturdy, and easy-to-assemble. For the price, it’s hard to beat. Also, from the perspective of safety, it’s reassuring that Million Dollar Baby (which owns Da Vinci) has never had a crib recall — that’s according to the new edition of Baby Bargains. (Great book, by the way.)The so-called “mattress” that comes with this crib is useless, however. It’s made of cheap foam and is barely an inch thick. You will definitely have to buy a mattress separately. We chose the MDB Crescent Mini Crib Mattress, which we like.(Just FYI: If you’re planning to attach a mobile, this crib works fine with the Tiny Love mobiles. Some cribs have non-standard side rail widths, which makes it difficult to securely attach a mobile to them.)A last note: if you and your partner are tall people, this may not be the crib for you… your tall baby will probably outgrow it very fast! In our case, that’s not a problem. Our little one is in the 30th percentile for height, and this crib is working out fine.UPDATE: our baby lasted in this crib until the age of 11.5 months. at that point, we bought a full-size IKEA crib!
We have twins. This crib is solid and very moveable if needed. This crib will grow with a sons for a few years then convert to a twin bed. I love the solid feel to it. It took my husband about an hour to put together. The honey oak is a nice natural look for the boys nursery. I really spent a lot of time looking at mini cribs, but this is the one I picked. The value is very good.
Beautiful little mini crib
This is a sturdy, beautiful little mini crib! It has a large height range for the mattress to be adjusted up or down. It doesn’t look cheap or flimsy. I am happy to welcome our new little baby into it.
Best option for us
Overall, I am very happy with this crib. My options were limited due to space… So it was this crib or a small pack n play. My Husband’s Grandma wanted to buy us a crib before the baby was born, so we opted for this one. So far, so good, but our daughter isn’t due for 6 weeks, so I will re-review after it has had some use. I was able to put it together by my self at 7 1/2 months pregnant and it feels very sturdy and much safer than a pack n play. Here are some things to consider before purchasing: Be aware that the bedding options are very limited with a mini crib!! I purchased the Crescent 50 coil mini crib mattress to go with this crib. The Crib itself warns not to use a mattress over 5 inches thick and that mattress is 6 inches, so make sure to purchase mini crib mattress 5″ or less!! The crib does come with a 1″ foam pad, but I wouldn’t use it on a regular basis. After you assemble the Crib, all the screw holes are exposed. And it did not come with any covers. Most cribs are made this way. On a white crib it stands out more than other colored finishes. And after a few days, it didn’t bother me anymore. The mattress has 4 adjustable height positions, these have to be made with an allen wrench, that is included, but I can see it getting lost before I need to make an adjustment.Still, I am very happy!! And can’t wait for my daughter to use it. We added a mobile, also a gift, to make it look more girly.
