Adequate for the price
This monitor had quite a bit of static, but worked well if we placed it someplace with the sound turned down but we could see the lights on it – it is very sensitive. It is too noisy to use while trying to sleep (unless you are a fairly heavy sleeper or need a white noise machine!).
So much static!
This monitor is decent for the price, I guess. But I think I would have rather spent a little extra to get something a little better. The pro to the monitor is that it picks up the smallest sounds. But the problem is that there’s so much static that you can barely hear the sounds that it picks up. There’s so much static that it almost completely drowns out my crying baby! If you run the monitor on just the batteries alone ( and unplug the AC adapter), then the monitor is pretty crystal clear. The only problem with that is that the battery life in that monitor is only like 1-2 nights (tops!). So, if you have the money to spend on a new 9V battery every night, or every other night, then I guess this monitor would be okay. But if you have that kind of money, I would suggest that you invest in a monitor that is better quality than this one. I think I am going to return this for something a little better. I’m very disappointed in Fisher Price. They usually have such great quality products. I can’t believe they would come out with something this poor of quality. My suggestion: don’t [spend] your money on this monitor.
Who would have guessed? Lowest price, best monitor!
I had purchased the soothing dreams monitor … and the sound quality was so bad I took it back. This monitor doesn’t have all the neat features that the soothing dreams did, but it does something the other didn’t – it WORKS! The sound quality is wonderful. You can hear the faintest noise in the baby’s room, or keep the volume down and just see the lights. This monitor is really the best as far as sound quality goes, and the low price is definitely a bonus! Don’t waste your money on a monitor with more frills that doesn’t work as well – this is all you need!!!
Adequate for the price
We received this as a present and while it has some nice features, it’s rather noisy overall. Our home is a two story and my daughter’s room is directly below ours. The monitor hums loudly and is very staticy no matter how low you turn the volume down. Maybe it’d work better in a home where the recievers are farther apart. It does however, pick up the lightest sounds from my daughter, you just have listen very closely. The moving lights are a nice feature and work perfectly. All in all, I probably wouldn’t buy it, but as a gift it works well enough.
I received the GRACO dual receivers as a baby shower gift. This monitor was not very good. It had so much static. It did its job, so I kept it. However, I refused to take it with me traveling. I travel to Indiana because my younger sister lives there. She has a two story house and when I would put the baby down I couldn’t hear her cry from downstairs. I went to the store and found this monitor. It was only $20 so I figured if it worked even half as well as the GRACO it would be okay. Let me tell you, it is great. I could hear the TV in the next room. I could hear the fan rotating. I could even hear her roll over. On top of that, I could see her larger movements with the lights. When she cried all the lights glowed. I was tempted to take this monitor back home with me and bring the one I have in my house to Indiana my next visit. This is a great monitor, don’t be fooled because it is cheap that it isn’t good. It is great.
This monitor is wonderful. We get clear reception all of the time. There is no annoying static or humming like many other monitors. Best of all it is one of the most affordable monitors on the market. Talk about getting a lot of bang for your buck. The monitor has noise indicator lights, so when you can’t hear the monitor (ie volume turned down, or you’re vaccuming) you can see if baby is fussing.
A great monitor for the price
Well I purchased this monitor over a year ago when my son was born last November 2002, and I have had no complaints. The monitor does have background noise when you turn it on, and I only use the AC Adaptor, but it works well for my needs. I can hear my son if the volume is down low, and the lights work great. I haven’t had a problem with the static, and it’s one of the most economical buys out there. So far, Fisher-Price has been a company I have bought many baby items from. So, although others have only had short term luck with their monitor, I highly recommend this product , and I’ve had it for over a year.
Too much static to be useful
This monitor worked great for the first week. Then, there was so much static I couldn’t sleep, and I couldn’t hear the baby clearly. I highly recommend the Sony babycall monitor (also carried by Babies R Us, but not online). It has a wonderful voice activated only feature that allows perfect silence from the monitor unless baby is fussing (i.e., you won’t hear the vacuum cleaner or the dryer or the neighbor’s dog barking, etc. – it only turns on when the baby cries or your spouse talks, etc.) I bought the Sony and retired the Fisher Price and am sleeping better than I have in weeks.
Awesome Monitor – I hear my baby really clear!
I purchased a different monitor and …, ended up exchanging and puchasing this monitor. The clairty is so good and it’s as if my baby is in the same room. The price is also unbeatable. I highly recommend this monitor.
