Got this for a friend because we loved it when we had one.
When our youngest was a baby we bought this and loved it. So when people have babies, this is our go to gift if it is in winter.
We thought the HALO SleepSack would be the perfect solution to our baby’s swaddling struggles. However over the course a night full of kicking, it rides up dangerously close to covering our baby’s mouth affecting her ability to breathe. I would NOT recommend the HALO SleepSack, we have found much more success with the woombie.
Sleeps sack swaddles are the best
This sleep sack saved my sanity. We’d bundle my daughter up and then put her to bed. The stretchy material and strong velcro made it virtually impossible for her to escape. I’d recommend this product.
Swaddling for dummies!
I received this swaddling blanket for my baby shower and am absolutely in love with it. When we were in the hospital after my son was born the nurses would come check on him and swaddle him up in a perfect little bundle. He loved it! I tried and tried to replicate it, but I’m just not a natural swaddler. After our first night at home with him not sleeping well I realized that it’s because his little arms were moving all over the place. I pulled this out and put it on and it’s been very helpful in getting my son to sleep. Here’s what I’ve noticed after a few weeks:The good:-Ease of use: This is seriously the easiest thing to use ever. It slips over his arms easily since it’s sleeveless. Then it zips up and the baby’s right arm wing is folded over and tucked behind and then the left arm wing is folded over and tucked behind. The arms can be in or out. I am trying to get my baby on a schedule for my sanity (we’ll see how it works). When it’s bed time I put him in here and he immediately settles down. I feed him and he goes to sleep easily. He still wakes up to eat in the middle of the night a few times, but each time he goes back to sleep quickly and easily. Then in the morning when I want him to start waking up I unswaddle his arms and he wakes up.-Warmth: This isn’t going to be good for summer, but in Seattle right now it’s the perfect weather to use this. I swaddle him in this in just his diaper. When I unzip him he’s the perfect temperature. His little feet are nice and toasty, but he’s not too hot.-Cuteness: I think this particular design is super cute and it’s great for boys and girls. I can use it again if I have more children or give it away to someone having a boy or girl. The bad:-Adjusting: I noticed another reviewer said that her sleep sack covered her child’s face. The first time I used this it covered my sons face and I was ready to throw it away, worried that it would suffocate him in the middle of the night. I tried again after re-reading the reviews and thought I must be missing something if everyone says great things about it. After I put his arms in and zip him up I pull everything down as far as it will go so there’s no bunching above his shoulders and around his neck. Then I make sure I pull the wings down as far as they will go so they fold over right at the top of the arm hole, not above his shoulders. Naturally with wiggling and the curves of his body the sleep sack scoots up a little, but ever since I started meticulously adjusting it each time I haven’t had any problems with it covering his face. It does get bunchy around his neck with the multiple layers, but I always pull it down and make sure it’s not too tight around his neck. I find that after every diaper change in the middle of the night and after picking him up I have to do this adjusting process again. I wish it was designed better and stayed put well below his chin.-Bulky: This isn’t a huge deal, but when I’m breastfeeding him in the middle of the night it’s hard to get his body close to mine because of how bulky this is in the front with all the layers. This isn’t something I would mark the product down for because it’s inherent in the design, but it’s worth nothing.-Diaper changes: It says that diapers can be changed without undoing the sack. I think it’s because my little guy is only 2 weeks old and not very long, but his diaper area is under the wings so I have to undo them each time to change him. This works out good for me because it helps wake him up enough to eat.I am happy I found a product that helps me swaddle my son effectively, unlike my messy attempts to swaddle with a blanket. As a side note I also have a SwaddleMe blanket that I like as well. It is a little more difficult to figure out and is cotton, so I put it over a gown and it keeps him the right temperature. It is easier to get it adjusted to where it doesn’t cover his mouth though. I bounce back and forth between using the Halo and the SwaddleMe. I like the warmth of the Halo, but I love how the SwaddleMe stays down and doesn’t ride up.
Gotta have one if you have a newborn.
If you have a newborn, you need one of these. I regret that I didn’t take mine to the hospital. The receiving blankets they have were not large enough to swaddle our 8lb 21in baby.
My baby wriggles out of this
I guess because the material is somewhat stretchy, it has some give, and fleece is slidey, my baby moves her arms. And since she can move them, she WILL! And when she’s moving, she’s not sleeping. This thing is a has been in our house now in favor of a large (47 inch) cotton swaddling blanket.
My son likes to be swaddled but he doesn’t like to have his arms or legs confined (go figure…) and this is the ONLY product I could find where the swaddle doesn’t have to hold down the arms and doesn’t confine his legs, so this is perfect. It gives him the comfort of a blanket while he’s sleeping and I don’t have to worry about a blanket getting pulled up to his face. The Velcro swaddle is amazing and I can make sure he’s nice and snug. He sleeps so much better now than EVER before. Mommy doesn’t know what she would have done without this! My only complaint is that the "swaddle" is only available on the newborn size and small size. Now that little guy is bigger he doesn’t fit in the small….and without the "swaddle" we started not sleeping very well again. I ended up getting creative and using and fleece Velcro closure earwarmer (like a headband) and swaddling his middle that way. It works well enough but not as aesthetically pleasing. If Halo ever comes out with the swaddle option on the larger sizes I am totally buying!!
This solves all problems. Almost all problems anyway. In the winter it will keep your baby warm and snug and is really straigh forward to put on. The fact that it zips from the bottom makes changing diapers easy without having to strip your kid into their commando suit. Additionally, once you start working towards ending swaddling, you can adjust it to have the arms out. We have three of these and they are well worth the price.
Soft, warm, swaddled tight and stays!
These are the best swaddler/sleep sacks I have used. After experimenting I use only the fleece because they are soft and warm. My daughter has been sleeping through the night since only a month or so wearing these. I dread the night she has to be taken out of her swaddle! Make sure you wash them with the Velcro closed or everything else in the load will get stuck tight! My daughter needed the small size (became too long for newborn) around 2 1/2 months.
Super Cute Print
We love these sleepsacks for our 2-month old. The space print is super cute and would be good for a girl or boy.
Love Sleep Sacks!
We are out of the swaddle phase now but I loved these sleep sacks. We had the Summer Infant ones as well and they didn’t hold a candle to these. I also love that the directions are sewn in so when my mother in law or friend would care for my son they could easily reference it. My son loved these. It was a sad day when he hulked out of the swaddle!
Our little girl was born six weeks early so is quite literally a little girl. As I couldn’t find the preemie size online and she will grow we bought two of the newborn ones. They are very easy to use and as the Velcro dictates the size you wrap her in it works very well. I was a bit concerned at the chunky zip which is close to her face but you can wrap her and adjust it so she sleeps soundly. Very easy to use even for a new Dad changing her bleary eyed at 3am!
I use a blanket to awake instead.
This is a good product, but I gave it two stars because in order to change my daughter’s diaper I had to unswaddle her. I also had to unswaddle her to nurse (babies should not be swaddled when they are nursing) so the swaddling flaps were in the way when nursing and burping. I ended up just using a blanket to swaddle her instead of this sleep sack. I have other regular HALO sleep sacks that I will use when my daughter no longer prefers to be swaddled.
Best sleep sacks ever.
Best sleep sacks ever. Just need them to make them bigger than this! Or maybe we just swaddle our babies too long!
Odd fit – not the same as the newborn version
My baby slept so well in the newborn size so now that she has outgrown it I purchased this next size. It seems that the quality of the fleece is very different the newborn size that I have is much softer while this one felt much heavier so I felt like it was overheating my baby. I live in the Midwest with very cold temps so I thought this would be a good option but it was just too heavy of a fabric which also made burping in the middle of the night impossible. The fit is also not very good. My baby is within the recommended sizing bit this bunches up after she squirms around which didn’t happen with the newborn size. I hope it gets better after more washes…Update: Halo contacted me with recommendations to get this sleep sack to work and even provided a replacement that works much better for our needs. Wonderful customer service. Upgrading my review to 4 stars!
We love sleep sacks. This one is great for winter months but is a little too thick for warmer weather.
Keeps baby secure.
The sleep sack swaddles well and keeps the baby warm. I do not have to worry about a blanket creeping up.
love the print, love the concept. so fuzzy and safe! this is our 3rd sleep sack. just got this one for the design. 🙂
