This product should be called the sleep saver! That’s what it is. Our 6 week old is a chunker at 12 lbs and 23 inches already and he’s pretty strong to boot! He escapes from every blanket, and you can imagine most of them he’s already grown out of! This thing is a life saver, it fits him perfect in small, and ensures a snug swaddle he cannot escape out of. I”m not sure how the first reviewers baby managed to end up with arms out from the bottom, I imagine that would be near impossible considering the way it is made, large over the arms… and I should know! I have a Herculean child! I think probably the swaddle needed to be snugger then they did or perhaps it was just too big a size for them?. Eitherway I am a happier mom thanks to this swaddle, it even stops his fussiness! Godsend! I am so buying more of these!
I actually liked this swaddle quite a bit. It was working awesome until one day I found the “wings” of the swaddle bunched up around her neck. It was horrifying! I chucked it immediately. Now we are using the SwaddleMe and I found she can’t bunch it up anywhere near her neck. She CAN get it to overlap her chin a little bit with some squirming which may cause her to try and suck on it (rarely happens) but there is no bunching or constriction. I’ve heard good things about the Woombie too.
Item not as described
This is packaged in a genuine looking Halo SleepSack package.Don’t expect this to be exactly like the ones you would purchase in a store. While it looks the same the swaddle is permanently attached to the back of the sleep sack. Not sure why the packaging shows a baby wearing just the sleep sack without the swaddle. My baby does not like to be swaddled and I cannot use this product. I have other HALO sleepsack/swaddles that are two pieces.
Too hot for a baby?
I love this product in theory, but I found that it made my infant son sweat like crazy. It also was very bulky compared to the cotton version. I’m not sure if others have found this, but our fleece swaddle sack ran much larger than the cotton swaddle sack. While I love the Halo products, I will not be buying more of this one.
The zipper is upside down
This was small for a one month old baby of average size. And because the zipper started from the bottom (not sure if by design, or if it was defect), the neck area was just too tight — we could not use the swaddle at all.
Just an OK swaddle, Miracle Blanket better.
We got this and a another type of swaddle blanket at our baby shower. After using both types for a few weeks now we have found this one is OK but nothing special. Baby can wiggle out without too much difficulty, no matter how careful I am to wrap him. The other swaddle blanket (Miracle Blanket) is MUCH better. I suppose if you have a baby that isn’t very strong or doesn’t move around much this would be fine.
Has pros and cons
I received two of these for my baby shower. I thought I’d love them but I just like them. I like that it zips from the bottom up, it makes diaper changes really easy at night. I like that it takes the stupid out of swaddle- in the middle of the night the last thing you want to do is waste time wrestling with a too small receiving blanket when you just want to go back to bed. I like that it’s warm, we don’t have to keep the house too warm at night when he’s in one of these.I don’t like that the fleece gets ratty after a couple of washes and gets pilly. Our son is only three weeks old and these things already look rough. I also don’t like that it’s really hard to burp the baby when he’s wearing this, you basically have to take it off of him to get a good burp- more than a slight annoyance in the middle of the night. I also find that the arm holes are really snug. As I mentioned before our son is only 3 weeks old, but he was a big baby and over 10 lbs at birth. He’s not a fat baby though and the arm holes are really narrow and can be difficult to put on when he’s not feeling like cooperating during clothing changes. We have these in the small size which should fit fine for his size. So, I would recommend these, but sometimes the cons outweigh the pros.
Fleece Swaddle is way too hot
This is the second halo swaddle we purchased. The other one we have is a light cotton material. I purchased this one hoping it would be a little warmer. Unfortunately, it is SO thick that my baby wakes up sweating even when she is just wearing a diaper underneath. I wish I had known this prior to purchasing because I will not use it again, but use the cotton one instead.
Bought this for my daughter when she was 1 month and it is really cute. It is heavy fleece so baby doesn’t need more then a onesie on under this, if even that. Normally I just put my daughter in her diaper when she wears this. I then have to make sure the room stays cool or she will break a sweat. I didn’t give this 5 stars because it is a thick and heavy material so my daughter can over heat easily. Otherwise I love it. She is still able to wear it now at 3 months old even though she has been out of newborn clothes for over a month now, the halo sack is still long/wide enough for her.
great swaddle sack
this item was perfect for my baby in the winter. she had a hard time sleeping without being swaddled because her arms flailed, she scratched her face and head, and ended up getting really frustrated and unable to fall asleep. but she sleeps well swaddled in this sleep sack. this sack is a soft, warm fleece. the zipper works well and the bottom up design is great for diaper changes without having to take baby out of the sleep sack. my baby still uses this every night to sleep and the animal designs are cute.
Too hot / cannot remove swaddle
The other reviews on this amazon site must refer to another model, because what we received has the swaddles totally integrated into the sleep sac / cannot be removed. This said, it’s a great swaddle. Velcro is very sturdy and baby won’t break free, though sometimes teh swaddle portion kikes up over her head/mouth area. The length is great as our 2 mo old kid is 99th percentile and still fits in it (she does not fit in the cotton sleep sacs of same size/same brand – go figure). The only issue is that the three layers of fleece on top when swaddled are way too hot even for New England winter. As such we really would only use this if our heating broke for whatever reason…
Best sleep sack!
As our baby grew, we were looking for a sleep sack that still had a swaddle. All of the other swaddles we were looking at didn’t come in any sizes larger than newborn. These Halo sacks worked perfectly. The swaddle held very firmly with all the Velcro that is attached. There is even Velcro straps at the bottom of the swaddle part that keeps it anchored down, preventing it from creeping up towards the baby’s head.Once our baby transitioned away from being swaddled, the swaddle “wings” were removable and now we just use the sack by itself for putting our baby to sleep. The fleece is very soft and durable after many machine washings. Wonderful!
Keeps newborn warm, even if they don’t like to be swaddled
We came home with a newborn cotton Halo Swaddle Sleepsack from the hospital, only to find out our newborn hates being swaddled with arms in. However, thankfully, there are instructions to show you how to swaddle with arms out – it just reduces the some of the kicking and wiggling so they don’t go spinning into the side of the bassinet, but doesn’t negatively affect hip development. Given that I couldn’t find sleepsacks that fit under 10 lb babies well, this worked perfectly for us. While these don’t swaddle tightly as the SwaddleMe’s, if it turns out your baby hates being swaddled like mine, you’ll be glad you had these instead of the SwaddleMe.Our room seemed a little chilly during the fall evenings even though the thermostat was set to 69 degrees, so I purchased a fleece swaddle to see whether it kept our daughter more comfortable or not. With one layer of sleeper pajamas and the fleece swaddle, she definitely seemed cozy, not overheated and sweaty, so we are happy with this purchase. At four weeks, our baby is 8.5 lbs and 21 inches – she is starting to get long for it, but definitely think she can stay in it for another month. For those of you torn about starting with the small or not, I am glad I had a few newborn swaddles around, the small sleepsacks are definitely too big for her. We will be getting the small fleece sleepsacks for the winter!
Thank you for many nights of good sleep!
Our son loved this thing. It wrapped him nice and snug around his arms. I credit this for his sleeping for 4-6 hour intervals when he was an infant. Its better than some of the other swaddlers that bind the leg area, which I read is not good for the baby orthopedically. This is in the top 5 must haves for new parents.
This was useful int he winter
This was useful int he winter, but the zipper is kind of cheap. I also got scared by reports that you shouldn’t use velcro swaddles with young babies for fear they will get velcroed in place in a compromising position. BUt I never experienced anything like that.
Best sleepsack! This worked so great for my Daughter, made her feel secure with out being too squished. I love how you can take the arm wings off and so did my daughter. She was able to keep her hands free and helped keep her warm. Great Product!
Love sleep sacks!
Sleep sacks are the only thing I use. The swaddles stay in place and keeps them warm. I used the swaddle until my daughter could roll over and was strong enough to get her arms out. Now I just use the sleep sack.
warm and cozy
My little guy will only sleep in Halo SleepSacks. We’ve tried several other brands that are more readily available in stores, but with no luck. This one has been perfect for our colder weather with just a little pj outfit underneath. It keeps his nice and cozy – which has been helping him to sleep better. The material is soft and washes well.
Perfect way to keep baby safely warm
I received the halo sleepsack swaddle as a baby gift before my baby was born. We started using it almost right away. I felt it was very easy to use. I was able to wrap the ‘wings’ around and secure them so that they stayed velcroed. My family wasn’t as good at that – they always had it too loose and it would come un-velcroed when the baby wiggled around a lot. My baby slept so well when he was swaddled that we bought a second one so we could have one washing while he was sleeping. When he outgrew them we bought two more in cotton (it was summer by then). My baby slept in these for every nap and at night for 7 months before he outgrew them. I recommend them to everyone. Just make sure you figure out how to secure it properly.
Helps baby stay asleep
My baby loves being swaddled, and this is so easy to use! It works like her “pajamas” (just a diaper underneath) and the sleep sack helps her stay asleep longer than if she were in a sleeper. It also keeps her warm were I don’t have to have additional blankets in the crib, because of the SIDS risk. Love it!
Love this swaddle
This is the swaddle we prefer for our baby, she is about 13.5 pounds. She usually cannot get out of it although sometimes she gets one arm out through the neck. This swaddle is completely adjustable there is a ton of velcro. The only issue we have had is that when we first bought it the velcro was almost TOO sticky, and in only about a week it didn’t seem quite sticky enough but it still works because there is so much of it. We prefer the fleece swaddles because the cotton ones stretch and do not seem to fit our baby correctly.
Life Saver, Sanity Saver
I buy these for all my friends who have new babies. When my child was 3 weeks old, someone gave me a swaddle sack it literally doubled my child’s sleep from 2 hours to 4 hours. I was under the belief that my baby didn’t like to be swaddled because he would get mad and destroy my swaddle via blanket every time. Turns out I wasn’t swaddling him tight enough. With this product it makes it very easy to swaddle a baby. Also you can avoid hip problems since it just swaddles the arms. As stupid as this products sounds at first, buy one or 10. It’s worth it.
This worked out so perfectly. I love this thing. The zipper starts from the top and zips down which makes it so convenient when I need to change his diaper since I don’t have to unzip him all the way. My son is 4 weeks old now and is about 9 pounds so I wish I would’ve gotten this in the next size up instead of newborn. It is already starting to get kind of snug for him.
I would buy again
Warm, snug, and it got the job done. This sleep sack has been a life saver for helping my baby stay asleep and warm during this freezing winter.
Love these sleepsacks!
If there is one way to swaddle my son easily it is using this sleepsack. I highly recommend this for a newborn and to aid in getting some great sleep. So soft too!
The only baby blanket I use.
With my first child her swaddling always came undone when she was carried or being passed around to friends and family. Later she kicked off her blankets when in her crib. My 2nd daughter is currently 4 months old. I got lots of use out of it when she was a newborn for swaddling and have brought it out again now that she has started rolling over and kicking her blankets off. It was really the onlt blanket I used to cover/wrap her. She is average length and it still fits her but is getting small at the armholes. I agree with other reviewers that it would be nice if it were slightly larger so it could be used longer. I will definitely purchase the next size.I have read the other review that mentioned the swaddler wrap getting bunched up around the neck and face. This never happened when we used it and I can’t imagine how it happened to them. I always wrapped my daughters arms accross her chest because she liked to suck her fingers. Perhaps wrapping the arms down too far caused this?
A must for every baby!
My baby sleeps in a HALO SleepSack for every nap. I love that it keeps him snuggled and safe without a blanket. He can sleep with his arms up, down, or outside the swaddle part, so he can be comfortable. This is also much easier to put him in than swaddling him in a blanket.
The easiest way to swaddle a baby!
We never figured out how to swaddle our baby in a blanket so he couldn’t wiggle out, but the HALO SleepSack keeps him content and contained. We found that it works best when his arms are straight at his sides and the first flap is wrapped tightly around both arms (not just one, as shown in the diagram). With a lightweight cotton sleeper underneath, he stays plenty warm in our 66-degree bedroom.
best cold weather swaddle
easy to use, lets baby’s arms be in or out, and the zipper goes the right way to allow easier access for diaper changes.
Safer than a traditional swaddle; Works great!
When our baby came home from the hospital, he wouldn’t sleep more than an hour at a time and was a master at getting out of his swaddled receiving blankets. On the third night we tried the halo swaddle sleepsack and he slept for 4 hours straight. The velcro works like a charm and it’s extremely secure. I also feel that it’s a lot safer than a traditional swaddle with receiving blankets, because if he did manage to get his arms out, he still won’t end up with blankets covering his nose/mouth. Now he’s six weeks old and will sleep for 7 hours with the swaddle, but no more than 3 without it.A tip for those who say the baby is “escaping”: make sure the first flap goes UNDER the second arm (see the directions on the package. (ie left flap OVER right arm and UNDER left arm, then right flap OVER left arm and fasten with velcro) This will help immensely and keep baby snug and swaddled.I also recommend the fleece option for those in colder climates. We keep our baby in a long sleeved t-shirt/onesie and this swaddle and he’s comfortably warm. Also, the fleece dries more quickly in the dryer than the other sleepsacks (we have both the fleece and 100% cotton sleepsacks), which is important because the multiple layers of the sleepsack sometimes makes the inside not dry completely and it then needs to be hung on a hanger to finish air-drying. We’ve never had this issue with the fleece one because of the material.A definite must-have for every baby!
