awesome little drum!
bought it for my 15mo old daughter. She loves the toy, runs around banging the drum. It’s reasonably loud, well built and makes a racket but a good toy nonetheless.
Awesome little drum
We’re so happy with this drum for my almost-two-year-old. It’s a real musical instrument — you can make lots of different sounds with it, and it’s so inviting. It’s also incredibly strong. It has been thrown, stood upon, etc. etc. etc. and is still in perfect shape. I love that my son can hold and strike this at just about any angle and still get a satisfying sound. It’s a winner, and a great value.UPDATE: 1/5/12: Not long after I wrote this review, my son did indeed manage to damage the drum. The drumming surface now has a small dent, and it’s not a great toy anymore — a step below drumming on an oatmeal canister from the grocery store. We should have supervised our young son more closely with it, or waited until he was older. I just wanted to update my review and let you all know that this thing is not, in fact, indestructible. :o)
My son LOVES this drum!
My son is 14 mos and has these drums at daycare. He loves music and making sounds so much, I decided to purchase two of these for him to play with at home. Too bad we live in a NYC apartment as we have to limit our noise (i.e., dropping the drum on the floor, etc.), otherwise he would just drum around the house all day long! These are of great quality (not cheap), and make all sorts of sounds. It’s a wonderful option for young children for their development and (musical) education. These are the first thing he wants when he wakes up and the last thing he plays with before bed. We haven’t had them long, but they are holding up very well against his constant throwing and playing – so far! Highly recommend!
Perfect for her
My daughter loved this from the beginning. Perfect for her hands. The only downfall was it was broken after my husband stepped on it.
Great for aspiring musical toddlers
Hohner makes pretty decent hand drums and mallets that my toddlers have enjoyed. The quality and price are better than the stores (2 sets for $13). I have purchased similar instruments from Gymboree Play and Music, which costs significantly more (1 set for $12). The Hohner instruments are comparable, if not better. I only wish they would sell the mallets separately as I find my toddlers would love to have a mallet for each hand, but I realize that would be an entirely different drum set.
