Baby doesn’t care for it
I really liked the toy and got it for my 6 month old baby. She is now almost 8 months and still doesn’t care for it. Each time she takes it into her hands she just throws it away again. not interested at all in it.
Wish I had gotten colors
This is a great classic toy. My mom still has one from when my brother was a baby. I liked the idea of a natural wood toy, but I didn’t think about the fact that my daughter would be more impressed with black/white or colors. It is currently being used as a door stop in her room. She does crawl over and play with it from time to time but I really wish I had not gone with the natural color! It is good quality.
babies love- get the colored one
Colored one is much more interesting and they both have a clear coat so I don’t think you are saving any toxin exposure to get the color. Seems a little more difficult to chew compared to other toys (good if worried about toxic paint- bad if your kid is teething and frustratingly wants to chew it). Nice for twins because it crumples easy so hurts less to get smacked with it.
Awesome ENGAGING (non-electronic) toy.
Amazing toy. Our daughter has been interested in it since she was very young (2 months old-ish). It is lightweight so even at that age she could move it around. She loves putting the little knobs in her mouth. She loves the rattle it makes when she shakes it. Awesome toy.I love that our daughter can be engaged by such beautiful things rather than noisy, obnoxious electronic toys. This is perfect.
Simple and clever
I just picked this up in a secondhand store for my six-month-old. Goodness, this thing is clever. It kept his attention…And if I’m being completely honest, I’m fascinated by it too.
Great first toy for infants
Purchased one of these in the natural color you see here, then also found one in the “color burst” variety. Ended up giving this away to a friend who just had a baby and saved the other one for my son. I don’t know if my baby would have enjoyed this toy any less without the colored paint (and I know some moms are really concerned about giving anything painted to their kids for fear of the baby eating potentially dangerous paint chips) and I’m happy to report that this is by far my baby’s favorite toy to play with. Great item! Easy for little ones to grab, hold on to, and manipulate. Excellent developmental toy for infants.
My 7 month old son likes this toy. It makes noise when he shakes it, he can chew on the ends and the rods, and it squishes so he can keep a hold on it as he crawls.
Great beginning toy for early graspers
I bought this for my oldest daughter when she was a few months old. The structure of the toy makes it easy for little hands to grasp well before they have the motor control to grasp other toys. I thought that maybe my oldest daughter just preferred this toy, but my son and youngest daughter both started picking this up too around 2-3 months before they could grasp other toys. All my babies seemed to like chewing on the wooden nubs at the end and like the gentle sound it makes when shook. While I wouldn’t say that it’s an overall favorite that we carried around for all of infancy, it does seem to be great for very young babies just learning to grasp. My son still liked it well into 7 months or so. We’ll see how long my youngest stays interested in it.3 little teething mouths later, it still looks new. The materials have held up well. I love that all the materials are natural and there is no worry about chemicals in plastic or lead in the paint. We have the “Burst” painted version….the colors are cheerful and bright and it’s something I don’t mind having out on the floor. I like the look of the natural version and think that my youngest probably wouldn’t mind something without color. We have other natural wood toys that she seems just as interested in. I also like that you can squish it flatter to stuff it in a diaper bag, as opposed to some bulkier toys. With our 3 little ones, I’ve discovered that some things my oldest loved were uninteresting to my younger ones, and vice versa. When a toy is loved by all 3, I know that it’s more than just one baby’s preferences. I highly recommend this toy to people with young infants just learning how to pick things up. I give it 5 stars for a 2 mos – 5 mos old toy.
You won’t regret this one!!1
My little one loves this! He loves to chew on ends, stick hands through center, grab elastics and wood, and listen to its great swishy rattling sound! Great for multiple sensory input – and I love that it comes with a natural color that isnt’ bright like all the other toys. Great toy, you won’t be disappointed!!!! Has yet to appreciate the squashy nature of the toy (5 mos.) for himself, but likes to watch it squash up into different shapes. My older son, 7 yrs., loves it as well.
My baby and I both love this toy. Great gift for newborns.
Because of it’s design, this toy is really easy for young babies to grasp. My baby will hold onto the string parts, stick one of the wooden nubs in her mouth to help soothe her teething pain, and even shake it around or toss it. The thin string parts of the Skwish are easier to grasp for a baby just learning to grab things on her own. The sound it makes when it’s shaken is quite soothing, not jarring like some other rattles, so this doubles as a rattle, too. It’s also great for taking along when you’re traveling with your baby. Since it’s squishable, it’ll keep nicely in a bag without taking up a lot of space or getting damaged.
Great concept, not as visually stimulating
I think I like this toy more than my daughter! I’m not sure if she would have been more interested if they were colorful. We have the wooden balls that are colorful and she loves them. She bypasses this toy all the time and I think it’s only because I picked the natural one.
All our Kids love it: ages 4months-3yrs
All our kids love this thing. My 3 year old gets a kick out of squishing it flat then watching it spring back to it’s original shape. And my 4 month old loves to shake it.
Great, Simple Toy
I bought this little toy about 2 months ago and my (now) 6 month old still loves it. I especially like how she was able to grab it very easily from the beginning, there are no colors to distract her from the object, and I personally find the design really beautiful.
This toy is beautiful. My daughter loves it! The wood is lovely. I wish it came in deeper wood stains too.
Love this toy
Sadly baby seemed to prefer the black and white and green variation we tried at a friend’s house. Can’t win!
Has some unknown sealant over the wood; baby never looks or touches it
First of all, we bought the natural one over the painted one so we could avoid the unknown toxins in the paints. That this boringly natural version also has (a potentially more toxic?) a finish makes this choice seem idiotic. However, what would lead me to recommend against this toy is that our baby is completely disinterested in it. She only has 4 toys: a Sophie giraffe doll, a Born Free flower teether, a Green Sprouts wooden rattle, and this. The other three are all loved, but this is never even looked at by her. It is not really conducive to playing with. Get a ball or gyroscope, instead.
My baby boy loves this toy – he started giggling at it the first time I gave it to him. Even my husband was fascinated by it for a few minutes! It seems durable, and I love that it’s paint-free, too.
