I really wanted a large, good quality mirror for the crib. This is definitely that. It is a good size and the reflection is very clear. I also like that it can sit lower down in the crib and fits just perfectly over my breathable bumpers. The only thing I would say is that it’s not too interesting on the outside and my baby doesn’t seem interested in it so far. She prefers things with color, lights, and sounds.
Too fragile for the price
If you’re looking for a mirror to hang from a flat surface and never be touched again, this is probably fine. The mirror itself is very clear and crisp for a plastic mirror, and the images on the back seem to be engaging for a child who’s into the high contrast thing. But for $30, I would like my child to be able to use it longer than the immobile-in-crib stage. Unfortunately, by the time she was moving around and really interested in looking in a mirror, we had to take it away. The first time she poked at her reflection when the mirror was hung at a bit of an angle, it flexed and caused the W-F design to crack, and the mirror surface to peel from the plastic. I would expect this if the whole thing had been bent in half, but it honestly was very slight pressure. And had I not been in the room at the time, I don’t know what she would have done with the 1″ flakes of paint and mirror silver/foil that popped off.I already regretted paying so much for such a simple item, and to have to keep it away from my child for fear of her (1) destroying an expensive toy, or (2) eating flakes of whatever coming from it really makes me feel silly all over again. Since you’ll have to keep this out of your child’s reach anyway, I’d suggest buying a cheap glass one that will last. You can easily download and print high contrast images online, too. Save your money.
One of my best purchases
My husband was very skeptical of this mirror especially given its price, but he is a total convert. Our LO was looking at the pictures as young as a week old and now at two months is pretty fascinated by the mirror. This mirror is not like other baby mirrors. It is stiff and doesn’t have that "funhouse" effect. My only complaint is that I wish the ties were better. The top two corners have two small pieces of silky ribbon. They are a little difficult to tie. We’ve overcome that by knotting them to two of those baby links which we can thenove around to do different places. This minor complaint is no reason not to buy it, just make sure you get it before you LO arrives because they can use it right away.
Changing Table Entertainment Center
We have this set up on the changing table, just sort of propped up between the back rail and the changing pad. The baby really loves the mirror; he stares at it while we change him. When he was still just a few weeks old and hated diaper changes with a screaming passion, we set this up and it immediately did the trick. We can move it to the end so he can look at it during post-bath naked tummy time on the changing table. He even stares at the polka-dotted ribbons! If he gets fretful during longer changes, we can turn it around to the picture side and he is excited to see something new. This is a nice item–lightweight, basic, and a big help.
This mirror scratches a little easily but otherwise it is great for my son to carry around and look in and point to the pictures on the opposite side.
Great mirror that’s not distorted!
It was so hard to find a good baby mirror that was not distorted. I didn’t want my baby to feel like he was in a circus funhouse! So I was very happy to find this one! It’s a good size mirror (which is an added bonus) and has attached ribbons for tying it to activity centers or crib rails. My son is 7 months now and has been using this since he was 3 months. He always gets the biggest smile when he sees his “friend” in the mirror. We have it tied to his crib rails now and we can hear him talking and babbling to it at night through our baby monitor after we have put him to bed. This is a high quality item and definitely worth the price we paid for it!
One of our best baby purchases
This Mirror is AWESOME. The mirror doesn’t distort the image like most baby mirrors and both of our babies absolutely love it. The black and white side is great too but they always choose to look at themselves instead. One of the babies has vision issues so I wanted him to have as clear a mirror as possible and this is perfect. Awesome product and the PT who comes to our home comments on it every time and I believe was going to order one she was so impressed with it.
My baby loves it
This mirror is unbreakable and very clear. Some other mirrors show a distorted image, but this one is as clear as a glass mirror, which my baby finds fascinating. I wish the ties were longer or maybe had snaps so it would be easier to move around and secure in a play pen or crib.
My daughter loves this double-feature mirror. Since she was a newborn, we put it in her crib and she would just stare at it taking in the black and white contrast and patterns. I highly recommend!
The best one I’ve found
Good, non-warped reflection, and BOY does baby love the b/w images on the back. I don’t know why no crib attachments (this, sheet protectors, etc) come with velcro attachments. Small ribbons to tie on with are for the birds!
a quality mirror–no fun house distortions
This mirror gives a good reflection–not the wavy fun-house type reflection of so many kid’s mirrors. Our daughter has thoroughly enjoyed looking at the black and white images and the mirror. The images were especially appealing to her when she was only a few months old, and even adults have fun trying to figure out what they heck some of them are. The kitty, baby, and fish are easy to identify, but then there’s the circular saw, the asterisk, and the dancing insect rockettes! OK, yes, I’m sure the last three are supposed to be a sun, a snowflake, and lightning, but take a look at them and you’ll see what I mean. Now that baby is older, she is more interested in the mirror. We couldn’t figure out a way to safely attach this to the wall near her changing table so we just rest it against the wall. Works fine, as we never leave her unsupervised on the table. If you put this into the crib, though, be sure to tie it to the railings rather than just leaning it against the railings. I leaned it against the railings one day and then briefly turned my back on baby, only to hear her desperate cry. The mirror had somehow fallen forward so that the bottom edge was braced against the railings and the top edge was pressed against her neck, under her chin (she was on her stomach, raised up on her arms). She was strong enough to hold herself up and was not injured, but we were both upset. I wouldn’t have left the room without securing the mirror–and probably no one would do that–but now I wouldn’t leave the mirror unattached to the crib ever.
Another great product
As with all the toys in this line, my baby loves the image of the baby face. The mirror is a great alternative to the image side, and both are loved by my three month old
Best Baby Development Toy
Our early intervention coordinator brought a product similar to the Wimmer-Ferguson Double-Feature Mirror to our house during a visit with our son when he was 3 months old. I started looking for one, but it seemed that the only unbreakable mirrors that I could find were the locker mirrors for kids at school. Those were really small and I wanted a larger one that he could really look at himself in. I was thrilled when I found this one on Amazon! Our baby is now 1 year old and he continues to play with this daily. He sits and talks to himself in it, waves to himself and just loves to look at reflections of us behind him.The mirror is unbreakable and has a great reflective surface – looks just like a mirror. The opposite side is filled with black and white reversing images which are supposed to be stimulating to baby’s eyes. Our baby prefers to look at himself. It’s washable with just soap and water. We’ve had it for about 6 months, and it’s holding up great!
Baby LOVES the Other Baby in the Mirror
I love checking on my 5-mo-old, only to find him staring at the baby in the mirror, telling him stories, touching his hands. And equally important is how safe this product is. He has kicked it, smacked it, and smeared his drooly hands all over it, and still it’s in great shape. I definitely recommend this product as one of the few (if not only) items allowed in a baby crib.
LOVE the high contrast images on the back!
I set this by the changing table with the high-contrast black and white imagine side facing the table. For awhile, my baby did not notice it. One morning, my then 6-week old was super fussy while I was changing him. Suddenly the fussing noises changing to coos and smiles. My baby was staring transfixed at the back side of the mirror! Now, whenever I change him, he loves to "talk" to the black and white images. He especially seems to love the picture of the baby! This mirror was completely worth the purchase… even though I haven’t even used the mirror side yet! When he gets a little older, I will flip it to the mirror side. This is one of my favorite purchases for my baby. I will probably be giving this as a gift to my new-mom friends in the future!
Best Mirror Out There
Pros:BIG mirror (most out there are too small)STURDY mirror (most out there are flimsy)CLEAR mirror (most are distorting, why would that be good for baby?)Cons:Ties are too short, especially for cribs with wide slats. I wish it had velcro or an easier way to attach it to the crib. If it had velcro, it would be simpler to remove when changing the crib sheets, etc.
Interesting gadget but paint chips….
At the beginning I was very happy with the product: I could attach it to the crib and my child could look at himself during belly time, later he got interested in black-and-white patterns (great!) and when he got older he loved to look at himself in the mirror and make funny faces. BUT the paint started to chip (pitty). Overall, the product is great but not very durable because of the paint chipping off.
Love this mirror
My baby loves looking in mirrors so I wanted to get her one that wasn’t cluttered with doo-dads and plastic. This one is perfect! The only thing I didn’t love was the ribbons you have to tie to attach to the crib. Since the mirror has two sides we move it around a lot. Tying the ribbons every time was annoying so I sewed Velcro to the ribbon.
Nice solid mirror
This mirror is solid and does not distort images as many other baby mirrors do. It’s a good quality mirror and my infant son loves looking into it. He liked the images on the back when he was younger (he’s 9 months old now).
High quality mirror .. but needs longer ties
Very high quality mirror, superior to all the other baby mirrors I’ve seen! It’s a good size too. My 6mo old baby loves staring at himself in this thing.Only things that could use improvement:- Backing is plastic and so feels a little flimsy? This is nit-picking a little though, overall it feels very high quality.- Ties are too short. They’re fine for tying around the crib slats, but when I do this the mirror slips between the side of the crib and the mattress. I will need to doctor up my own solution to hang it from the rails at the top of the crib
Such a nice mirror
This is a very nice quality product. The mirror is clear and not all warped like many baby mirrors. The black and white images on the reverse side are large and engaging for young infants. I have used this product attached to the car seat back as well, works great. My baby loves looking at it.
Best infant stimulation item
We purchased this mirror for our newborn after reading some of the reviews and we couldn’t be happier with it. We keep it by the changing table and our baby stares at the black and white picture side every time she gets changed and does not cry. It is literally the best stimulation toy/product we have gotten. She is almost 2 months now and we occasionally switch to the mirror side and she loves that too. I would definitely recommend this product to any new parents!
I used the picture side when my baby was very young. Now he’s 8 months old and loves the mirror side. It is the clearest mirror I’ve seen. The other baby mirrors are distorted and scratch easily. Great purchase!
