Shipped Wrong Color
I ordered the phantom color and was shipped a total black. I still haven’t heard back from the company yet regarding fixing this mistake. Plus, if you read reviews on the company (which I should have done prior to purchasing), they get awful reviews across the board.
I have used this (juice colored) seat for my daughter for the first 6 months. We got it b/c it fit on the Quinny buzz stroller, and thought it would be useful for when she was too tiny for the regular stroller attachment. It did fit the stroller fine.In the car, it can be a bit of a pain to get the top part latched into the base, and it never seems to align correctly — sometimes the straps underneath get in the way, and you can’t fit it in right. And it is *heavy*. It feels awkward carrying it, and I can only make it very short distances.Based on these, I would have probably given it 3 stars. However, I just saw that independent “car seat chemical” testing on it (you’ll need to look-up the web site yourself) revealed lead in the shade and clip. Bromine is all over it. Antimony is in the seat. And copper is in the shade.Buyer beware. One star.
great find, way better than my Graco Safe Seat
I am a BIG fan of this seat. I did a lot of research on which seat to buy; for my first kid I got an inherited Graco seat. It worked well, but it reached the six-year max so we had to get rid of it. With this next one, I went to consumer reports and asked everyone I knew why they liked their seat. I will admit, I didn’t talk to anyone I knew that picked the Maxi Cosi brand, but I think that is just because they are hard to come by in stores. But this one is WAY lighter and I really like the handle shape. I have read reviews of the “terrible sun shade” but it is honestly just like the one on my last Graco seat. So no complaints here. Most moms I talked to picked their seat because of the seat pattern, and I’ll admit, i had a hard time and went with the neutral black. I was worried that it would get really hot, but my husband pointed out that we hardly ever leave it in the car. Anyway, very happy. And this is currently rated #2 in Consumer Reports over the combi seat, but it is because of the “ease of using a shoulder seat belt” over the Combi. I’ll take the higher rating in safety anyday.
Easy to use
Some infant carseats are so complex to figure out. This one is very intuitive and easy to use. I like the the directions are printed in the base as to how to install it into the car, very helpful if you forget to bring the manual out. The seat is easy to pop in and out of the base, and is secure when in the base. I use it with theMaxi-Cosi Foray Stroller – Choco Mint, and t is easy to put onto the base of the stroller and take off. The seat is lightweight, well constructed and looks really nice in person. The car seat base does come with the product, I wasn’t sure when I ordered.
Great Car Seat
I researched infant car seats the whole time I was pregnant, and this is the car seat I wanted as far as safety, price and ‘looks’ goes. I am so glad I picked this car seat. It has fit my son perfect his whole first year of life, and yet it is a simple and compact seat. We bought the Velboa Snuzzler insert for when he was a 6 lb 2 oz infant and then removed it as he gained more weight. We used this car seat all the way till last month when he was 13 months old and reached 21.5 lbs. The car seat is safe up to 22 lbs. This car seat was reliable and easy to get in and out of the car, it clicks easily in and out of the base. It felt secure whenever we installed the base in and out of the car. Our son seemed very comfy in it too. It is very sturdy and strong but not too heavy to carry, although as our son got around 18 lbs +, HE was heavy to carry in it! 🙂 Our son had many diaper blow outs in this car seat also, and all of the fabric and parts were washable and did not shrink in the dryer. We washed the cover and straps SO many times and they NEVER look worn out. We have now re-boxed it up and put it away for our next newborn because we loved this seat so much. As a bonus, my husband and I LOVE that it is plain black (‘phantom’) and not cute-sy. We bought the ‘Jeep Universal Cruiser Car Seat Carrier’ (a stroller-type thing that has NO seat, it is JUST for attaching an infant car-seat) to go with this seat and it fit perfectly. This combo has been our son’s mode of transportation this whole year and we never even had to take him out of his seat to go into the store. (The Jeep Universal had a lot of storage room underneath – can fit 2 paper bags of groceries, rides VERY smoothly – and the whole set-up is STILL compact!). LOVE the decision we made to get this car seat. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Comfortable for baby
My husband and I chose this car seat for aesthetic reasons; we liked the coloration, the sleek look, and the curve of the handle. It is light, compared to other sets, but our favorite feature is the depth. It is fairly narrow, making a lovely, deep pocket for our son that keeps him tightly snuggled in the seat. He loves the car seat, and we use it as a rocker whenever he gets fussy, even at home! It is very easy to take in and out of the car, and it is easy to tighten or loosen the harness straps to fit him.
Simple, Chic, and Comfy!
One thing I HATED about all of the infant car seats was their big bulky handles, giant bases, weight, and SUV style obtrusiveness!Enter the Maxi Cosi MicoAs far as infant carseats go, this is it. It’s simple. It’s lightweight (ever picked up a Graco or Chicco Keyfit?). It doesn’t have that big, bulky, plastic look too it! The fabric has a nice, cotton feel(unlike that plastic stuff Graco uses) and washes easily. The strollers it is compatible with (Quinny) are compact, elegant, and lightweight. This carseat is NOT for the mom looking for the tank sized travel system! This is more for the trendy mom who appreciates simplicity and elegance – I have not one complaint about this carseat, not even it’s low (by industry standard) weight limit.a. Infant carseats with high weight limits are silly. Do you REALLY want to lug your 35 pound baby, AND a carseat around? It’s much easier to strap a child of that size into a full-sized convertible carseat, and because presumably by that weight they are sitting up, you don’t really need the infant seat (for them to sit in) to haul around anymore.b. Further, most children exceed the height limit before they exceed the weight limit anyways. . .even on 30+ pound weight limit infant seats! That said, I’m not one of those people who believes in using the infant carseat as a baby bucket. People who make a habit of that will not like this carseat, because it has a rounded bottom part and doesn’t sit well on shopping carts. BUT, there is a lot to be said for having the ability to bring this into the house so it’s warm for your infant during colder months, that it is a cozy, safe, and warm place both in the car and snapped onto a Quinny stroller, as well as the fact that if you do use it to carry LO in, it’s lightweight enough to make it possible (We used it only in restaurants for the first 4 months or so).I wish I had one of the newer models – the 2011 and later colors are SO beautiful! ! ! We have the old Trail color and while I like it, there are some much more fun colors out there now ;)We love our Maxi Cosi Mico, and our baby does too! He has always seemed happy, comfortable, and content in it.
