very good item, but not perfect

I really like this product. I use it on the non-nursing side when I nurse my son. I usually get 1/2 oz or less per feeding. A little more in the morning, and less progressively as the day goes on. It is easy to use, easy to clean, and helps me keep my shirt dry while nursing (I would often leak through a nursing pad and my shirt on the non-nursing side). It is not at all uncomfortable, and does the job it is intended for very well. And it is cool to take it out of your shirt and think, “wow, look how much is there!”There are a few things I dislike, however.
• It is surprisingly large. I only use it at home when I am nursing. When I am out, I just use the nursing pads and don’t cry over leaked milk.
• It takes some time to deal with the milk, cleanup, etc. Not a LOT of time, but you have to have a bottle or container of some sort (you can’t mix warm milk with cold) to store your milk in, and then you have to pour it out of the Milk-Saver into the bottle, which is slightly awkward, and wash the milk-saver for the next use. Then at some point, you have to combine your collected milk to freeze (1/2 oz doesn’t go very far.) And, I am not adept enough to do most of this one-handed.
• It leaks if you bend over too far. So sometimes I have spilled on myself just getting out of the chair. Take it out, set it in its stand, and then feel free to move around.
• It does seem just a tad overpriced.Overall, I wish I had bought this product earlier. I didn’t get it until my son was about 4 weeks old, and I know I leaked more before that. I would recommend it to breastfeeding friends.

A must for new moms

As a new mom of an infant, it can be challenging to produce enough milk in those first few weeks as you’re getting the whole breastfeeding thing down. This certainly helps save every little drop of the white gold for your precious little peanut! I found it not only a morale builder, but also made me feel “thrifty”. I wish I’d had this when I was in the hospital, right after delivery. Sure, you can hold an empty bottle up to the non-nursing breast and accomplish the same thing, but common, who has enough hands to do all that and hold the baby while feeding? This thing is a pretty slick item, made out of a nice silicone type substance (sort of like a bottle nipple) so it is comfortable enough. Only down side is the packaging which I’d day is a big waste. Who needs a really nice hard case (good for only this product) for carrying the thing around? I’d prefer they’d save me a couple bucks and skip that part.

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT!!!! This sounds like a great idea, but it DOES NOT WORK UNLESS YOU HOLD IT. Anyone who has an infant knows you can’t hold the breast cup and nurse! I tried to use the product, but nothing ever emptied into the item because I do not have a third hand. However, when I wrote to the company they said “Unfortunately, due to the intimate nature of this product, we cannot accept returns/exchanges on the Milkies Milk-Saver Breast Milk Collector once they have been taken out of their packaging.”. THEY DID NOT MARK THIS ON THE PACKAGING AS DO ALL OTHER COMPANIES SELLING SOMETHING ‘INTIMATE’!!!!! This is a total RIP OFF!!!!! WARNING: DO NOT PURCHASE BECAUSE THE COMPANY HAS NO CUSTOMER RESPECT!!!!!!

Can’t wait to try!

I just got these in the mail today and I am so excited to try it. I was worried I thought that it would be small, but it is actually pretty big. Looks like it will work really well for catching the milk. I will update when I get to use it.

Not very useful. :c

This product was recommended to me because I exclusively breastfeed and stay at home with my baby – there’s no time to pump because I don’t miss any feedings, but I would like to have some milk available so I can leave the house from time to time and not worry about my baby getting his food.So I bought this, and had several problems with it.First, it’s huge. HUGE. Bigger than my entire boob. Why does it have to be so huge???Second, It doesn’t stay put very well. I hardly ever wore my nursing bra because it was uncomfortable for me, so when I went bra-less, I couldn’t use this. When I did use it, it shifted around really easily.Third, switching breasts kinda sucks because you have to struggle with this thing without spilling the milk you’ve collected and try to get baby latched to the other side at the same time. There’s no stand or anything, so it needs to be held upright or it will spill everywhere.Fourth, like another reviewer said, it collects mostly foremilk. Definitely not the stuff you wanna be pumping/bottling for your baby. And the biggest problem… I can’t use it anymore. I used to leak like crazy out of the boob that my son wasn’t nursing on. I thought this would continue forever. Well, it doesn’t. I think I was able to use it for about a week before my supply regulated itself and before I got so annoyed with this thing that I didn’t want to try to use it anyway. So now I have this huge, useless thing that I paid almost $30 for. What a bummer.

Didn’t work for me

Sounds like a good idea but you must be sitting for it to work properly. I didn’t quite think the whole day through with these. My thought was to use them while nursing on one breast to capture the milk from the other. Maybe for mothers who are bigger milk producers it will work for you but not so much for me.

Mavis Booneville, KY

design could be smaller but works great!

I used it for the first time today and saved 1 ounce from dripping while I nursed on the other breast! It is a little bulky. I think the design could have been smaller but it gets the job done.

Good for a short time

These were great to use, although only for a short time. While my milk supply was still being established, I would leak about 1-2 ounces during feedings from the non-nursing breast. But after about 2-3 weeks, I don’t leak more than a few drops now that my body is producing a more accurate amount of what my baby consumes.

Cherie Jackson, CA

Great invention

I don’t use this tool as much any more now that my milk supply has regulated but initially it was a great way to start saving up milk when I started breastfeeding! I like that the case has a spot to set it once you’re done with it cause often you cannot get up right away and find a place to put it. It’s easy to wash. It’s a little bulky but I only use it when I’m feeding, I don’t walk around with it in my bra. I also thought it helped to put it on my engorged side to help release milk and my engorgement while I fed my baby on the other side. Great invention! This was recommended in my breastfeeding class.

Does what is intended

I think this product works great for what it’s supposed to do – it collects the fore milk that tends to leak when your let-down occurs when feeding on one side. I don’t use this as much as I thought I would, only because with the amount of pressure my nursing pads apply, I don’t leak much. If you are "exposed" like you would be in this collector, with no pressure on your nipple, they will leak. But like I said, if you have a nursing pad against you, in a nursing bra, you may not leak. This would’ve been a great product in the beginning stages postpartum, like in week 1-4. And, like previous reviewers mentioned – obviously it’ll collect fore milk… it wouldn’t collect hind milk probably because you need a little more sucking pressure (like from the baby or pump) to get at the thicker fattier milk. So, the resulting milk is the more watery milk that comes out first.I used the milk that was collected with the Milkies along with the remainder of milk that was pumped on this side, to be placed in a bottle or freezer bag.Great product, a genius invention 🙂

Clever product, works great

I was skeptical, but this product works just like it says it should. I am usually able to collect around an ounce of extra milk when I feed my baby in the morning just by slipping it in place. Much easier than pumping, although I have to do plenty of that too. It is not uncomfortable for me at all. I find it an easy way to collect a little extra milk for very little effort and time…much appreciated these days with a newborn in the house.

Frankie Startup, WA

Larger product than anticipated

It’s a great concept in theory, but actual product is big, bulky and not very comfortable. You only receive one saver per box and I was expecting 2…pricey for the quantity.

Therese Nicasio, CA

Great for catching foremilk

Breast milk is liquid gold and every drop counts, this is a great product. Only thing I realized after I purchased this was this catches mostly your foremilk (depending on how long you wear it), but quality made product and it comes with a travel case.

Jeannette Mammoth, AZ

i dont like it..because..

dang these things are HUGE!!!! im mean, i have large breasts, but this is big. to be honest, i didnt even use it because it was SO big. i just ended up putting a cup to catch the stuff instead (at home)

Jasmin Verdon, NE

This was WAY different than I thought when I received it in the mail. The part you’re supposed to wear in your bra was probably 4 times the size of my actual boob and looked ridiculously uncomfortable. Plus, if the idea is to save milk this is kind of a terrible system because it seems like it would be pretty messy. Anyway, I returned it after a quick glance, knowing I could never make any use out of this.

Mattie Winsted, MN

Not that useful as an exclusive pumper

I’ve been exclusively pumping from the start. I tried experimenting with this x2 instead of using nursing pads since I have crazy letdowns in between pump sessions. There were times when I wanted to take a nap or break, but this just doesn’t work because it will spill all over your shirt. I went back to using cloth nursing pads. Just another set of stuff to wash after every pump session = not worth it.While this thing was a great idea, I was expecting a lot more out of these and I was hoping to be able to sleep through the night with this since that’s when I have the most leakage issues.Buying two of these was really pricey. I’m considering returning them after I’ve thoroughly washed them.

Selina Ridgeland, MS

HUGE and BULKY! Not discreet at all

I did not imagine this to be so awkwardly huge. It is not discreet at all and its difficult to even fit it in under my bras. Also, its top is COMPLETELY OPEN. I got this product because I leak A LOT in the middle of the night because my son sleeps for decently long stretches. I’d have huge spots (bigger than a basketball!) on my sheets, and I didn’t want to keep wasting that milk. However, because the top is completely open, I cannot use it for saving the milk I leak in the night. It spills out anyway and its not comfortable to sleep with. My son nurses often enough in the day that I do NOT leak. The only time this products work for me is the very first nursing session in the morning, because I’m often so engorged I’ll leak from the breast I’m not feeding on, but the rest of the day I do NOT leak when nursing. I’m not very happy with this product and I wished I hadn’t spent so much money on it. IF it were actually smaller, discreet, and wasn’t open on the top, it’d been worth the money, but as is… not worth it.

Maryellen Pennington, TX

Great product

I personally thought that this product is a great invention. I am a big leaker, especially during nursing. Which is why I wondered if anybody has invented something like this. I leak about 2-3 ounces each feeding on the non-nursing side which fully soak my breast pad. This product was designed only for that, not to be used during sleep, or for a prolonged time during the day. To those who rated this product a one star because of those reasons need to rethink the purpose of this product. Especially if you dont leak much, why is this the products fault? If you don’t leak, then don’t use this product! You can use a breast shell instead if you leak so little. That’ll solve the “discreet” problem. I dont find the silicone to be annoying or hard material. It also doesn’t really matter if its not as discreet because I use a nursing cover while nursing in public.I bottle my leaked breastmilk in a breastmilk bottle right away after nursing (no spills for me, also the open top makes it easy for me to clean after each feeding) and store it in the fridge throughout the day, so my foremilk and the real fatty milk are mixed together before I freeze them 🙂 it works great. . My baby is only four weeks old and I already have tons of breastmilk in the freezer, and this is only from leaking and no pumping! How great is that?! Both my husband and I are very impressed with this product and I’m happy that I have found this.. Note: I didn’t buy this from amazon, but from a local store. So I don’t know about shipping or seller.

Awesome way to store extra milk

I use this during the daytime when I am breast-feeding and I collect one extra bottle per day. It really is incredible how much you can save. I would highly recommend this product anyone who is breast-feeding!

Christy Gibbon, MN

nothing’s perfect

it is large, so that it can hold the amount of milk you’re leaking. remove the removable hard plastic inner part to make it more soft and pliable. i definitely leaked more when i was in my second and third week. in fifth week now and i got a half an ounce yesterday but at least milk wasn’t all over my clothes. PERFECT for when you will want to add some milk to cereal, or for mixing with meds. the ideal product would be a closed bag that you could lay in and it would suction somehow to your nipple, but that doesn’t exist. someone out there patent it and give me a cut

Liza Alton Bay, NH

Recommend for all breast feeding moms

Excellent product that allows you to capture every last drop of breast milk that you can. It is something that you can only use at home in my opinion as it is bulky under bras/nursing tanks but it does the job and is much easier than holding a bottle.

Harriett Altenburg, MO

Great while it lasted

At first I loved this product. During the first few weeks of breastfeeding when I would leak on the side I was not nursing. But now at 3 months I never use it. I dont have the leaking problem.

Chrystal Mistletoe, KY

Awesome if you’re an over-producer/sprayer

Great to have when your milk comes in, but may not be that useful if you wait too long to buy (when your milk is more established and leaking slows down). With my first son I had no idea this existed and had to wrap a towel around my waist in the first month when I breastfed my son. I would literally soak the towel each time. This time around I was prepared. My milk production wasn’t as extreme but I was still able to collect 2-3 ounces on the unused breast while I fed my son on the other during those first weeks when my milk came in. Perfect for filling up Medela’s freezing and storage containers (they say 2.5 oz but you can fit a little more). The only negative that I can think of is that on at least few occasions I forgot I had this on (and full of milk) and leaned over to change the baby…dumping that precious milk all over my son and the floor… Not sure if the design could somehow be updated to prevent spills like this.

Therese Eaton, NY

I haven’t needed to pump so far, because I can get at least an ounce at a time (every time I nurse). The only issue is if I forget that it is in (because it is so comfortable) and I bend over, then the milk spills out. besides that, it is amazing!!

Lilia Chambers, AZ

AMAZING investment

Love this item. I can save about 12 oz a day from leaking alone. The only thing I do not like it the top opening. It is hard to do day-to-day chores without some spilling. You cannot lean over and you have to walk slowly if it is full. Once you remember you have them on you, it is easier. I take mine out before getting up. I am hoping they make a new design in the future that keeps the top closed somehow…HIGHLY recommend.

Jana Rhinecliff, NY

I didn’t like it, it’s not really practical

I didn’t like it, it’s not really practical. You can collect a little (almost tiny) amount of milk, it’s not a big deal. Maybe it’s work in the firsts weeks but now, two months breastfeeding my baby is not the best choice. I regret buying it.

Cecile Keystone, WV

A must buy!

I don’t know how any breast feeding mom lives without this? Seriously the best invention and really saved a ton of milk that otherwise would have been a total waste on a pad!

Krista Prattsburgh, NY

great idea

this came in handy for me as I was producing a ton of milk and it was such a mess everytime I nursed my son.I gave it 3 stars because it was a little hard to use and I spilled all the milk on myself and my chair a couple times. Also i thought it was overpriced but there weren’t any comparable products so I didn’t have a choice.I would definitely recommend it to nursing Mom’s who plan to nurse at least a full year

Save additional ounces a day

This device has helped me save an additional several ounces a day. I highly recommend getting one. I save more in the morning, so usually only use it then.

Ronda Crozier, VA

its a must

I did not like this at first. its def takes some getting used to. i have DDD boobs so it was just hard to add anything extra to my bra, but once i got used to it, now i can’t live without it. I’m able to save about 2 ounces per feeding, which has really helped my freezer stock over time. it also cuts down on how much i need to pump! anything to pump less. I’ve used it in public, at home, laying down (you just have to turn it so the top is face up) and really every time i breast feed. you’ll prob bend over several times before getting used to squatting rather than bending with it in. no sense in crying over spilled milk…nonsense! not when its precious breast milk! i totally love it.
