Milkscreen: Home Test to Detect Alcohol in Breast Milk 8 Test Strips

Milkscreen: Home Test to Detect Alcohol in Breast Milk 8 Test Strips

Buy Milkscreen Home Test for Alcohol in Breast Milk 8 Pack – Milkscreen Alcohol (8 pack) detects the presence of alcohol in breast milk. Simply saturate a small test pad with breast milk and then read the results in 2 minutes. ANY color change on the test pad at 2 minutes indicates that alcohol is present. After nine long months of pregnancy, some moms are interested in having an occasional or celebratory drink but worry about passing alcohol on to baby. Milkscreen provides peace of mind, so moms can breast feed with confidence. Milkscreen is an easy to use at home test to detect the presence of alcohol in breast milk. Milkscreen detects the presence of alcohol at 13.1 mg/dL or greater in breast milk. Some Moms mistakenly think that after just one alcoholic drink they are okay to breastfeed. However, about 2% of the alcohol Mom consumes will enter her bloodstream and breast milk. Because everyone metabolizes alcohol differently, the amount of time it takes for the alcohol to leave your breast milk also varies. Alcohol is not trapped in breast milk, and draining your breasts will not expedite the elimination of the alcohol out of your system. Over time your body will naturally metabolize the alcohol from your breast milk but the only way to know for certain that the alcohol is gone is to test your breast milk. A ‘feeling’ of intoxication or non-intoxication is not an accurate indicator of determining if alcohol is present or not in breast milk. Product Dimensions: 5.7 x 3.0 x 1.5

Pricey but worth it for peace of mind

Like other reviewers have said, I wish there was an intensity color range to indicate the level of alcohol in the milk. No, I don’t want to subject my child to even low amounts of alcohol, but I feel this would help mothers understand how quickly the body metabolizes the alcohol before it’s safe to breastfeed. If a mother saw a “low” color indicator, she’d know it’d soon be safe to breast feed again vs. a “strong” color indicator which would tell her that she still had quite some time before she could safely feed her child. Otherwise, these strips are really pricey for what they are — but in the end worth it for peace of mind and child safety.Tip: cut each strip in half with scissors before use to double the number of test strips. They are small to begin with, but this works.

Box was not 20– there were only 8

I actually love this product and would give it 5 stars! I think it’s a great idea, and it’s nice to know you can have a glass of wine or two and be sure that you’re not passing it onto your baby.So why the poor review? The product says it’s a box of 20 test strips, but I got a box of 8. I contacted amazon and will update my review if they fix the issue.

Good idea…

…but not necessary unless you’re binge drinking and then trying to breastfeed immediately afterward. I’ve discovered that the alcohol gets metabolized out of your milk with time, so if you have 1 – 3 beers before you go to bed and then wake up to feed your baby 4 hours later, they milkscreen will show that it’s okay. But if you want to be on the safe side, this is a nice tool to have.

You can’t even have one drink and the strip tests positive which made me scared to have any alcohol, which I feel I deserved after the whole process of child birth and obstaining from alcohol, it is a waste of money, if you have a drink, they test positive, so there is no need for them

Not Really Neccessary

I was super excited to learn about these testing strips but I have not used them more than 3 times in the past 3 months. I wish they would have varying shades for levels of alcohol detected to I knew exactly how much was in my milk. Instead, they turn dark brown even at the slightest bit that may not harm your baby, which causes you to waste milk. Now, I just use good old fashioned common sense. If I have a glass of wine, I wait an hour or two to feed my baby. If I feel buzzed, I pump and dump and then wait to feed him for the next feeding.

These are a few of my favorite things

It doesn’t matter how much research you do into how long it takes your body to metabolize alcohol out of your breast milk; you will still feel unsure the first time you go to nurse after you’ve been drinking. People will suggest “pump and dump” but it’s actually a falsehood. Your body metabolizes alcohol out of breast milk the same way it metabolizes it out of your bloodstream, so you needn’t pour the precious breast milk down the drain. The only reason you would need to “pump and dump” after drinking would be if your beasts were uncomfortably full. While the general rule of thumb is that if you feel drunk, your milk is no good, you can never be too safe when it comes to the safety of your child. These seem expensive, ranging from about $1.50 to $2.50 each, depending on the size package you want. Even at the high end, this is a small price to pay for peace of mind when nursing your baby. If you have trouble justifying the price, think about it as less than half the price of a drink. They are incredibly easy to use; I squeeze the milk directly from my breasts onto the strips. They change color quickly and the readings have always been clear. After you use these a few times, you will get a good idea of what the result will without the test strips. However, they are nice to have around for those times when you just aren’t sure. I would rather be safe than sorry so I continue to use them anytime I’ve had more than a couple of drinks, even when a decent amount of time has passed. After all, if I can afford the alcohol I should be able to spend a little more to buy these test strips and know for sure that my milk is safe for my beautiful baby girl.

They work..

They work great. I’m not much of a drinker but I like to have one once in a while with my hubby but I don’t want to risk my daughter getting anything bad so I’m really happy I found these… At first I wasn’t sure if they worked because it would always be negative when I tested so I mixed a couple drops of wine with some milk and it picked it up so that made me feel better. I’ll be buying these again.

Don’t bother – good concept – but not useful as executed in this product!

There are several problems with these strips. First, they do not test the amount of alcohol in the milk, so a very minute amount that may not be harmful can still trigger a positive. It is so sensitive, in fact, that the test info points out that many medicines and even common environmental “vapors in the air” can cause a positive result. But you will only get this far if you can tell whether the test has registered positive or not. That is difficult since the colors on the color card for positive and negative are essentially the same. What little difference is nearly imperceptible. All you are doing by using these is assuring you will throw out the milk you pump, which you could have just decided to do without spending the money on these overpriced testing strips. These are really only useful as a “gag” baby shower gift.

Thank goodness!

I went on vacation with my family and my uncle made a margarita that was just a little too strong! I breastfeed and don’t get much milk so every little bit is precious!! It was good to have these and know whether or not the milk was safe. My doctors say that it is okay to drink in moderation but I am the type that wants to be sure that things are okay before I give my baby any milk. I have used these many times. The only thing to complain about is the price lol. I even tested these to make sure they work by mixing a bit of alcohol with a drop of breast milk! I wanted to test because I have never gotten a positive result for alcohol, ( Probably because I don’t drink much) but it helps to be sure, for peace of mind!!

Carey Ironia, NJ

works great

I tested them out at various phases of alcohol consumption and these work great. A must have for mammas who want to enjoy their wine.

Nellie Harvey, IL

great product!

I am in a wine and cheese bowling league every other Friday. It’s so nice to be able to finally actually drink the wine! No more worries about whether my milk is ok!

Kristen Girvin, TX

Yay! I can drink and breastfeed! These are perfect. They can be very sensitive. Don’t waste your money buy trying to pump while drinking. Just wait and test yourself in the morning. Drink a lot of water. Oh and a nice tip… if the alcohol leaves your bloodstream, it will leave your milk too.

Easy To Use

I started breastfeeding about 7 weeks ago when my son was born, and honestly, after 9 months of nothing to drink…all I wanted was a drink. I was extremely paranoid however with what a drink or two would do to my breast milk, so I bought these strips without hesitation. I stopped nursing, and just pump religiously, so using the test strips is extremely easy. I set a timer for 2 mins, and the results are easy to read. My test strips have always read safe, except for the other day when the coloring on the strip was BLACK. I had 3 beers and a few sips of a mixed drink…I didn’t feel like my milk would be THAT contaminated, but apparently it was! Like I said, the results are clear…and it’s a safe and easy way to test your milk to make sure it’s safe for baby. I will be buying this product again and again.

Worked great

My girlfriend loves it. Used it the next day after a night with some friends and made her feel a lot better about breast feeding. Glad she could have a night out with some friends

Toni Anchor Point, AK

These test strips are awesome!

They take the guessing out of nursing after you’ve had a drink or two so you don’t have to pump and dump and wonder if you just threw away perfectly good liquid gold. They are easy to read (little indication turns black if there is alcohol present) and overall a great product.

Minnie Lewis, CO

Drink up, Mamas!

These are awesome for obvious reasons.Mamas – the little tip at the end of the strip will turn gray or black if you’ve got boozies in your milk. I would obsess…did it change? Is that cream or ecru? It will be a NOTICABLE change so don’t you worry your pretty little nursing heads and drink up with confidence! You earned it, sista!

Janelle Crockett, VA

How can you not love it?

It tells you when your milk is tainted from booze. It also has some great additional information like don’t pump and dump – just wait and it will get filtered on its own. If you’re dying, just express a little.

Lea Warm Springs, AR

Seems to work

Hope this works, because I’ve been using them, people have posted in their reviews that you should wait longer – well, the directions clearly state to follow their directions, because the strip could change colors if overexposed – on something like that, I’ll follow the manufacturer’s directions.

Milkscreen: Home Test to Detect Alcohol

Awesome product… now I can drink wine with dinner, and then test my breastmilk before baby drinks it. If it comes up colored on the tab, we just use previously frozen milk.

Greta Shattuck, OK

Very sensitive

This product definitely gives you peace of mind on the safety of your milk. It is extremely sensitive. Definitely wait the full length of time to read it because small amounts of alcohol will take some time to change the color. Also, I’ve noticed that the color sometimes changes back over time, so it does need to be read in a timely manner.

Great for a nursing mom who still wants to have a life

Although a responsible mom probably doesn’t go boozing too often, this nursing mother certainly enjoys a glass of wine or two every so often. These easy-to-use test strips take the guess work out of feeding baby after imbibing. I was shocked at how expensive they were at the drug store, but this package is much more affordable. I’ve used them to test when deciding whether to nurse or use a bottle of expressed milk, whether to wait longer to pump, and to make sure that expressed milk doesn’t have too much alcohol. If breastmilk is liquid gold, these strips are worth it because they have definitely cut down the amount I pump and dump. Sort of like a pregnancy test, it only gives a yes or no based on a certain threshold of alcohol content, so gives no indication of the degree of toxicity.

Dana Desmet, ID

Great product

As a breastfeeding mom, you may not totally be super restrictive and avoid any amount of alcohol especially after avoiding it your whole pregnancy. You want to know if having one or two alcoholic drinks will affect your breastmilk. This product is easy to use, just apply a few drops to it either directly expressed from breast or in a separate container. Results are fairly simple to read! In would buy more quantities of these. I only bought these initially to try.

Gives me peace of mind!

Great products and gives me a peace of mind. There are times when I did have a drink (every mom needs a break!) and instead of just waiting x amount of hours, I used this to test the alcohol in the milk. Def works and the only negative I wish there were a timing indicator of how much longer you needed to wait – as sometimes i would use 2-3 of them just to keep testing every once in awhile to see if the milk was OK. I would also wait longer than the 2 minutes on the instructions (hence my 3 star) I found that it would still show as OK after 2 minutes, but once I waited 2 min and saw it was OK but I was doing something so didn’t pump right then…. when I went back to pump and I peaked at the test again (had been about 6 minutes) and it had turned brown!

Absolute Necessity For Any Wine Drinking Nursing Mother

I missed having my glass of wine at night while I was pregnant and with the stress of new baby wanted to be safe. These are great for that!

Carmela Hallie, KY

Does exactly what it is intended for

Now, before I had kids, I always wondered who would use such product. Now, as a nursing mom, I assure you this is great. I am a working mother and as part of my job I need to join clients and co-workers for dinners and banquets. This allows me to have a drink AND nurse my son with confidence. Also great if you are going out for drinks with your girlfriends or a date with your partner.IMHO: this product helps mothers breastfeed without feeling left out or limited.

Sometimes a new mom just wants to enjoy a glass of wine

I hated worrying about its affect on my breast milk though. I never thought I drank too much but was always paranoid. Sometimes I couldn’t tell if I was buzzed or just really tired. These strips worked really well. I’ve purchased them for all my preggo girlfriends as shower gifts. Always gets a huge laugh.

Cheri Amo, IN

Great idea!

Now you can drink and be assured that when you breast feed, the alcohol has left your system first. No need to pump and dump- which doesn’t work anyway :).

Brooke Sierra Blanca, TX

Delivers Some Peace of Mind

These helped me realize that having one beer a few hours before pumping didn’t impact my breast milk. It is a bit subjective though when there is alcohol present. The key on the box show shades of gray, but I noticed shades of tan after a wine tasting. It would be good to have a more clear indicator that tells you when to pump and dump.

Shirley Normalville, PA

Be careful some strips don’t work properly

I used these strips after my first baby was born and they worked fine. Now with my second baby I discovered that sometimes you receive a bad patch. Always trust your instincts and test a new box first with milk you know should be contain alcohol.

Georgia Ladd, IL

They work!

These test strips really work for detecting alcohol in your milk. Nice peace of mind when you are ready to breast feed again. Sometimes mommy needs a drink with the girls!
