Not as firm as the lightweight version
I purchased this coil Naturepedic from Amazon and the lightweight (foam) Naturepedic from a Big Box Baby store. I was undecided which version would be better for us and felt an in-home test inside the crib would be best. Both fit snug inside my Munire crib (they also sell the Baby Cache line).Overall, I was uncomfortable with how soft the coil mattress is in comparison to the lightweight mattress which is very firm. When I put the weight of my forearm across the center of the coil mattress my arm sank in a bit whereas with the lightweight mattress it gave very little. Considering all the advice I have gathered says to put the baby on as firm a mattress as possible, I have decided to return the coil one.It is important to note that during my research I found the coil mattresses consistently measured 52 x 27 where the lightweight mattresses were sometimes shorter. I definitely recommend buying the lightweight version in person so that you can measure it or purchase it online from a retailer with a generous return policy.
great idea, bad product
I purchased this mattress because i wanted to avoid nasty flame retardants and the price, even though quite high, was still lower than most other organic crib mattresses. However, after 1 month of use we decided to return this product and amazon was great in refunding the full amount.Pros: fits well in the criborganic without natural flame retardant barrierCons: extremely heavy – my husband even had trouble changing the sheets since I couldn’t do it at allvery soft – even though it says it is a firm mattress, it was giving in quite easily and. my 10lb baby made a dent in the middle that wouldn’t go away. After just one month!cover deformed – the waterproof cover seemed well made at first but after just one month use and the formation of the dent in the center the cover started to have folds(for lack of a better word)overall, I was very disappointed in this product. I am still looking for a reasonably priced mattress without FRs that will last. This is not it.
So far I am very happy with this mattress. My daughter appears to be comfortable sleeping upon it and it appears to be well made. I would highly recommend!
The mattress fits just right in our crib from The Land of Nod. We use Carter’s and Pottery Barn crib sheets and both fit perfectly. We originally had a regular spring mattress for our baby, but it was so soft and springy that we decided to buy this one. It’s firm but comfortable. Our 8 month old sleeps great on it. Worth every penny.
Can you really put a price on a good night’s sleep?
I don’t know about other mattresses, but my son was a great sleeper as soon as we started him in his own bed, and I suspect it might be the mattress. We started him in his own room at 3 weeks (with a video monitor and a breathing sensor, but in his own room), and he started sleeping so well. By 2 months old and with only breast milk, he started sleeping 5-6 hours at a time during nighttime. By 3 months old, he slept 10-12 hours a night and he never looked back (7 months now). When he was in the pack and play in our room (more noise, not as comfortable travel mattress), he never slept as well. Even now, when we travel, he never sleeps as well as he does at home in his own room. For us, we chose a cheaper crib, but we spent money on the mattress, and I don’t regret one cent! A well-rested baby is a happy baby, and our son is one of the happiest babies around. Is it the mattress? True, he may also be naturally easy-going and a good sleeper (he is on the well-fed side, which helps with the sleeping), but I can’t imagine a comfortable, clean-smelling mattress could’ve hurt!
Buying a Second!
We bought this mattress when we had my daughter 2 years ago. She’s used it for about 18 months so far and it’s been perfect. I love the peace of mind that comes with knowing she’s sleeping on an organic mattress. She sleeps well at night and we’ve had no issues with this product. She will continue to use this as she transitions into a toddler bed, etc. Well worth the extra money spent! We actually just bought a second of the exact same mattress for my son.
Worth every penny
We splurged on this mattress and purchased a less expensive crib frame (from IKEA). This mattress is worth every penny. It’s comfortable and safe. I would recommend it.
the best option available
My four-month-old has slept soundly on this mattress from day one. More than that, though, I have slept soundly knowing that she is spending the majority of her first year of life sleeping on what is an incredibly well-researched and well-worth-it crib mattress.I spent hours scouring the internet to find the best genuinely organic crib mattress for the best price. I found that many do not meet fire safety standards, while others claim to be organic but still have chemicals like boric acid sprinkled inside. This mattress meets all industry standards while also being completely safe for your little one. It has won numerous awards for good reason. The features that caused me to choose this one over the slightly cheaper option were the side seams, which should be great for preventing seepage into the mattress, and the softer-on-one-side option. Seems like that will be great for when our little one is a bit older and will appreciate having a bit less rigidity under her.I have continued to hear more good things about Naturepedic since purchasing this mattress. It certainly seems to be an excellent company with the best organic mattress available on the market, and the price is as good or better than other mattresses which may or may not be as well-tested and as thoroughly organic. Overall, I am very satisfied with our decision and with this mattress, and I thoroughly recommend this product. One thing to note is that you will need a mattress cover with this mattress. I haven’t purchased one yet, but an extra sheet underneath my little girl during these winter months has kept the mattress from feeling too cool against her face.
Great Mattress, just purchased another for my upcoming twins
My 2.5 year old daughter has had this mattress since the first day she came home from the hospital. It is very high quality and very comfortable. There wasn’t any “chemical” smell to it and it has been very easy to clean when needed. I highly recommend this to all my friends and really appreciate the quality that has been put into this product. I would not allow my children to sleep on anything other than this. I plan to get a full size one for when my daughter goes into her “big-girl” bed.
Bought again for 2nd baby!
We purchased this mattress for our first baby, and again for our second child. This mattress is no doubt firm. I considered getting theNaturepedic No Compromise Organic Cotton Classic 150 Crib Mattressbut I decided to get the classic 252 because it has 9 guage cross beams that help prevent sagging in the center of the mattress, in addition to the 9 guage border wire that is on both organic cotton classic mattresses. To make the mattress a little more comfortable for our toddler, I purchased aNaturepedic Non Waterproof Airflow Mattress Topper Crib Flat. It does make the mattress more comfy. I’ve decided to buy an airflow topper for our infant as well for better air flow.Overall, I’d recommend this mattress. It’s not to cheapest mattress by naturepedic but it had all the qualities I was looking for:-safer materials, (natural flame retardants, no off gassing, VOCs or toxic chemicals for my baby to breath)-firm (especially with the cross beam support)-durability (our 18 month old has slept on this mattress since birth and it’s still brand new condition)-tight fit in our cribs (I’ve heard in other reviews that people have had problems with gaps, but I’ve found naturepedic customer service to be great and quick to fix problems)
