Purchased for use with x-box kinect
I have my x-box kinect set up in the basement with a painted concrete floor, and wanted something softer to help absorb the shock of jumping around while playing games. I purchased 2 sets of these mats (and ridiculously, they game in two GIGANTIC boxes which were big enough to hold 5 or 6 sets) and they made a play space which is almost exactly big enough for me to play. The problem is that the mats are fairly light and they slide extremely easily on my basement floor. I fixed this by using an anti-slip rubber mat used for carpeting. Now the mats stay fast to the floor no matter whehther I am doing a jumping jack, a lunge or anything else.I’ve ordered a third set to make the play space a little bigger. I do not mind the unfinished boarders so I have no intention of buying them from the manufacturer. However, I havae to say I was annoyed to see the reminder in the packaging that the boarders are ONLY available from the company direct, so if those boarders are important to you (to have a squared off edge instead of a puzzle piece edge), make sure you price them or else look to a different company that sellst he boarder pieces with the mats.
NOT the same as Sams Club. WAY BETTER!!! LOVE THIS MAT!
I just ordered these from amazon today, and i will receive them using nda shipping on tuesday as it is saturday night now.I thought it was important to post this comment in reply to a previous comment stating that these were the same that “Sams Club” sells.Go on Sams website and type “foam mat”. I am wondering… are they really the same thing? The mats at Sams club are colored on one side and grey on the other and called “util-a-mat reversible mat”… Ok great i thought… I found them. Well, I did a little googl’ing just now and found that the util-a-mats are 13mm thick which = .512″, so they are NOT the same as these. These claim to be 5/8, which is .625”. I want them as thick as i can get them, as I have an 8 month old son who is learning to crawl and hard laminate floors over concrete… so i purchased 1 set of these. ( i put them as 5 stars because I had to fill something in. I will update when i receive)HOPEFULLY these are really .625″ (5/8″) thick and not really .512″ as the Sams club one stated… OR these are going back.I will update the second they arrive!!– — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — –UPDATE 3/13/2010:These Mats are GREAT!!!!!!!!!!! WAY thicker than the tadpole one i had before, and the finish on them is very nice. The cats dont even scratch these ones, but they literally attacked the tadpole ones constantly. They really are 5/8″ thick!I bought the sams club ones and returned them. They are JUNK compared to these. There was NO smell at all on these right from opening, and the puzzle pieces are SO STRONG when they are together. There is no way for my 8.5m old to even think about taking these apart, nor do i see it ever happening in the future. My son has toppled over many a times on this mat on his head and it hasnt hurt him 1 bit. They absorb a LOT!!Worth every penny!! I will be buying more.
DON’T BUY if it’s for babies
I placed my order and I didn’t hear anything for about 5 days. I’ve written an email, but no reply. I was like “hope this isn’t a rippff!” So, I called them and someone answered (thank god) checked on the status of the order and i was told that it’s been shipped… So, I recieved the order and I’ve read some reviews here that people were saying that it makes your hard wood floor slippy. So, I decided to wipe them off with a cloth because i thought it must be due to some chemicals left on the mat. and realized that the color comes off from the red mat! I wiped them all, but other colors were fine, but red color keeps coming out… It’s not like the mat turns white or anything, it’s still red, but the cloth I was using turned orangish no matter how many times I change them into the clean one… ew right? and also, like other peple says, this DOES make your floor VERY slippy. I have an active 3 years old running the house, so this is dangerous. If you keep the mats at the same place all the time, it might not be a problem, but I do move the mats when i vaccume or when I need some space in the house. This is something you might want to consider before you buy. Also, you probably don’t want this mats if you are planning to use for your babies to craw or practive rolling around. I bought this item for that purpose… but now 1. the dyes come out from mats. 2. there is some kind of chemicals on the mats that make it slippy. It cannot be good right?! I thoguht about returning it, but their return policy is unopened package. and obviously I opened them… This slippy thing is very concerning because I did wiped them, but i does not go away… and if you touch it, your fingers do get slippy… I definitely not gonna put my baby (i have 6 month old too) on it. For now, I put them under the ball pit (so that the mats dont touch the toddler much) but want to return if I can… I just wanted other people to know these issues before they buy so that they can re-consider with negative sides… oh, so you defintely dont want to dress your kids in white since the orangish dyes (from the red mats) gets on them. and yes I have contacted them again about this problem, but I haven’t heard from them… hope these info helps
more expensive, but the quality is superb. #First time parents #hardwood floors
We really considered the more popular set of 6 from ‘We Sell Mats’ because they are cheaper and cover a larger area. However, we went with these as they were thicker. The thickness might not sound like a big difference, but comparing them side by side, you can tell. If you baby falls over, you’ll be glad to have an extra 2/8″ of cushion. We started off with a set (4 mats) and as our baby became more mobile, we purchased another set. I wouldn’t recommend high-heels on the mats either, as some of my wife’s friends have put marks/punctures in the mat. My only wish would be to have one alternate color on the other side, so the mats could be used in the garage or exercise room. I saw some at Sam’s Club and realized how useful that would be to move them to the garage for fatigue mats (one side was all black). The ones at Sam’s are not as thick either.
A must in any play area
I was looking for something like this when my daughter became 6 months and more mobile. I read the reviews on this and was sold and now that I own it I conquer that it really is great. Before I was using blankets, comforters etc on the ground since we have wood flooring which really wasn’t great because if my daughter hit her head it would hurt and she’d cry; not to mention that it didn’t look good in the room. This replaces her rug, it looks cute for kids and it’s SO THICK. I love it!The set of 4 really isn’t that big though and it is expensive so it’s an investment cause you most likely need 2-3 sets. I wanted to get 2 more of these to add on to the set of 4, I went on their main Website but they charge so much for shipping and handling that 2 cost nearly as much as 4 here. I’m an amazon prime member and shipping here was free so I’ll most likely buy another set of 4 and hold on to 2. So that was a little disappointing. I’d love to just be able to buy 2 more and edges and not pay a fortune in shipping. Plus they give you free shipping once you spend $300 … why so much? It’s probably cause they ship the item in a box 3 times bigger than the item.EDIT: I went back and gave the item 4 stars instead of 5 for the same shipping reason. I bought two sets which makes 8 .. not 9 so I need to buy 1 more to lay it in a 3×3 layout. But I can’t buy them individually here on Amazon where I’m a Prime member and can get free shipping so I have to buy it from their Website and pay their crazy shipping for something that’s not even that big. So 1 extra play mat ends up costing $19 on their Website (that’s why it’s such a steal here on Amazon). So in conclusion a 3×3 layout ended up costing me $83.28!
Great purchase! Durable, thick, no odor!
I’m really happy with this purchase. I researched many different floor mats for my son’s play area before deciding on these. I was concerned about the odor that many people reported with other floor mats, and I also didn’t want small pieces that would be easier to pull up and chew on. These tiles are perfect! They did not smell at all when I took them out of the packaging. They are a good size–2′ x 2′, and fit together snugly. They are a bit thicker than other mats I’ve seen so they provide better cushioning. They do not slip or slide at all–they stay put on my hardwood floors. They are colorful and happy looking–perfect for a play area. Overall, a great purchase. I highly recommend.
Great Play Mat
These are thick and good quality. They are nice bright colors. My baby doesn’t cry when he falls on them. They don’t have small pieces that come off like some other rubber mats do.
These mats are excellent for our 10 month old who is just learning to walk. They’re thick and do not have any smells or weird texture to them.
I’ve ordered these to use in my child’s playpen. The squares are bright in color and fun to look at, can be assembled in different order, spit up is easy to clean up, and they provide some cushion (compared to our wood floors). Overall very happy with the purchase.
These mats are everything they promise to be – thick and of very good quality. If you are looking for a middle-sized mat (not the one that covers almost the whole floor space) – this mat is for you. The convenient four pieces can be used as the baby grows: 1 piece at first for tummy-time, then 2 or more for other activities. The mats have very a faint smell, unlike some other mats that have strong odor. I also like the fact that they do not have any letter or number inserts that can fall out. I only wish they hadn’t used so much packaging to ship the mats.
Can make hardwood floors slippery.
I purchased these when our baby was just starting to sit up, to protect his head and face from our hardwood floors. Unfortunately, they made said floor very slippery, so we couldn’t keep them. I don’t know if it was our particular batch or how the cleaning products we use reacted with the mats, all I know is that when the mat slid around, where it had been was so slick that I almost fell a few times. The actual product is good–thick and soft and easy to clean each piece (though since the pieces interlock, there are a lot more surfaces for liquids and semi-liquids to infiltrate). Maybe if you were putting the mat on carpet, it would work better. If you’d like an excellent, high-quality solid mat, which is harder to store but easier to wipe clean, tryDwinguler Kid’s Playmat. It’s more expansive than the interlocking mat, but the lack of separate pieces means less places for babies to chew.Bottom line: This made my floor too slippery to be usable. I got a higher-quality one-piece mat instead.
great mats stupid packaging
bought 3 sets of these for our infant son and he loves them and we do too–I really think they are helping him comfortably learn how to crawl and walk but that’s all subjective. The only downside is Amazon’s packaging–these come in huge boxes and individually so the cardboard waste is really a shame, especially for a foam unbreakable product
Ok for Carpet. NOT Hardwood
Do not use this on hardwood. We had it down for only one week and then moved it to another location. The pads created a fall hazard on the hardwood. We think it buffed the hardwood and mde it very, very slick. It took about a month of our walking—very careful by the way—on the hardwood to scuff if up again enough to walk on it safely with fear of falling. It does ok on carpet though.
We love these. There was a little bit of a smell when we opened them but we let them sit in the garage for a day or two and it was gone. They pad our hardwoods just enough for them when they tumble. We did just move them, and the floors were slippery where the pads had been, but it lasted for a few days and now they seem fine.My 10 month olds do try to chew on the edges now that they are showing (previously we had the playpen set up so that they didn’t have access to any of the edges). It’s something to watch out for, one of my twins did get a little piece off.
Nice and thick!
These are great for over hardwood or tile! We had our playmat on our hardwood floor so it was very uncomfortable for baby to lay. I put these down and now it’s a nicely cushioned surface!
I get a lot of compliments on this mat from other moms that come over for play dates. The mat is a lot thicker than I expected and my little one sits on this everyday to play with his toys. Easy cleanup for spit up/drool (a plus!). For the price, I’d definitely recommend this play mat. It’s a really good size too. Don’t bother with edges…it’s fine the way it is.
For LOs learning to sit. I let her practice sitting independently on this. My goal is still to prevent the tumble but if it happens I know no serious injury will occur.
I got a baby super play yard and bought these mats to go with it. I should have bought the set of 6. these say together nicely, are nice and thick and do their job.
These mats are the absolute best! I have been using them now for several months and they are excellent quality. We move them to different locations and change the shape by unhooking and rehooking the mats and they remain in great shape. They are very durable and easy to clean. They provide the perfect amount of cushion for my little one’s constant falls as she learns to walk. I definitely recommend this product. I have nothing bad to say about it and I am extremely happy!
I wish it was a bit bigger, but you can just buy more mats and link them together. I love how thick these are, and how vibrant the colors are.
Great mats!! Easy clean-up! Does not stain!
These mats are great!! I bought them for my 8 month old to play on. They are super thick and provide traction for the baby to crawl. Spills are easy to clean-up….you just wipe it up and no stains! The mats are really durable and great quality. I am very pleased with my purchase. I did have to purchase another set of these because the area from one pack was a little small for my baby to crawl around on. So, with a total of 8 mats all together, the crawling space is sufficient and my daughter loves them!!
Seem to be a great product. They are a little pricey, but hopefully stand the test of time, over the more cheaply made mats.
i have a 5 month baby girl who like to play on her back and even the tummy time it’s great for the floor without thinking it’s to thin because actually it’s very thick !!
i ordered 1, liked it so much that i ordered 2 more. when the first came i saw an advert for the cutest little table and chair set. i want to order it, but it seems so expensive. because these are so expensive i put them at a 4, because that price is a sure turnoff on my pocketbook.. they double as a baby play area and my personal gym space. i like them a lot, my baby likes the bright colors.
eWonderWorld Thick Rainbow Play Mats
These mats are amazing. We bought them for our 3 month year old daughter. The definitely help by keeping her safe. We use them in a room that has wood flooring. I would definitely recommend this product.
