Gel Pads are Great – Disposable Pads Not So Much

(Selection for new grandson)Diary – useful at the start because the doctor was monitoring intake. Once he started gaining at a good rate, no one cared when he nursed.Pads – at $.15/pad ($.30/day), the pads are reasonably priced. However, they are not as thin and big around as an enlarged nursing breast might need during to be discretely placed inside a bra. For the same price you can get the higher rated Lansinoh pads.Thermal Gel Pads and Sleeves – comforting and useful at getting the milk flowing. Because junior wasn’t in a hurry to nurse, heating them was no big problem. Like others, we just dropped them in a bowl of hot water for fast heating.

Love them

I take these with me everywhere~ I am currently breastfeeding and pumping so I need an ice pack to soothe my breasts at times. I just put them in the cloth wrap and put them in my bra. They dont leak or cause any wetness to your bra. They truly help!

Huge waste of money.

This was one of those impulse "I’m pregnant and need to put stuff on my registry" buys. While it was great to have ice packs specially made to avoid the super sensitive preggo nipples, it was a waste of cash. Go to the store and buy breast pads and the little ice packs (yes they sell them), keep them in your diaper bag and you’re good to go.

It is not practical!

It looks like a gift if you want to make it as a gift. But if you buy for yourself, it’s not practical.

Nice idea…

This breastfeeding kit is a nice idea. However, I didn’t find it entirely useful for me. First, I didn’t care much for the the thermal gel pads. I found that they didn’t get very warm after placing them in hot water for several minutes. I microwaved the water to to get it really warm, then placed the pads in the water for about 5 minutes. They barely felt warm at all so I felt that they did not help me. I found that using a washcloth that I wet with hot water was not only more beneficial, but it was much faster way to get a warm compress rather than soak the gel pads in water. When your baby is hungry and ready to be fed, you don’t have a lot of time to spend heating up gel pads. The breast pads are ok. They worked well, are a little on the thick side for my taste. The included diary is a useful tool to keep track of your baby’s feeding schedule. It’s small and easy to carry around to have handy where ever you may be feeding your baby.

Great item for the price!

The Breast Feeding Starter kit was a gift basket item for a soon to be new mom who plans on breast feeding. She has received one other starter kit for breast feeding thus far, and tells me that this kit has a lot going for it. (That made me feel good as it is relatively inexpensive.- There are 12 day time disposable breast pads and 6 night time disposable breast pads to keep you dry and comfortable during the day and through the night. They seem thick and very absorbent (especially the night pads), and there are adhesive strips to keep the pad in place (definite plus).– Dual usage: Warm use – to stimulate milk flow and cold use – for soothing and relief; Comes with 2 extra soft sleeves for added comfort. There is also a bra clip to remind you of the side you last fed from.– A feeding diary is a great peace of mind tool, especially for new mom who are obsessed with tracking and record keeping.–Items come in a washable zippered pouch to hold all your breast care must haves.RECOMMENDED based on product and price.

Must have for breastfeeding moms.

LOVE this. The gel packs were life savers when I came home from the hospital. Was constantly warming them or cooling them for relief. The cotton pads were also helpful. Loved the case it came it. Carried it to the hospital and would recommend packing it in your hospital bag! Would definitely recommend!

Love this breastfeeding starter kit!

This Breastfeeding Starter Kit is such a wonderful gift idea for a new mom. The price is perfect and it’s full of useful items to help establish a healthy breastfeeding relationship. My favorite part of this set is the Thermo Pads which can be used both hot and cold to help relieve soreness in the early weeks of breastfeeding. These are a lifesaver to an engorged mom! They are a nice large size, and the O shape is very convenient and comforting.I love that there are thicker, more absorbent overnight nursing pads to deal with the extra night leakage. I like that both the daytime and nighttime nursing pads have the adhesive strip to help hold them in place. This makes it much easier to discreetly recover yourself, without having to fight to get your nursing pad back in place.I was initially concerned about the disposable nursing pads. When I first put one on, it was very crinkly-sounding. It also had a visible seam and center point that showed through my bra and my clothing. Thankfully, after about 5 minutes, it softened with my body heat and the crinkly sound was gone, as was the visible seam and point. I couldn’t have used these if that seam and point remained visible, so I am very glad it disappeared. The nursing log may be helpful for a new mother who is very detail-oriented or worried about doing everything just right. I wouldn’t have used that beyond my first baby, however, and certainly won’t with this baby. But it’s great that it is included, because I am sure it would be very helpful for some moms.Similarly, the little nursing bra clip to remind me of what side I left off on is a good idea, but not one I’d use beyond the first few days. It is basically a little ribbon with a snap on it, that can be snapped around your bra strap. It isn’t something that can be easily accomplished with one hand, at least not by me.I will be purchasing this kit as a shower gift for new moms that I know will be breastfeeding!

Saved me!

The only thing that would make these better is if they were a complete circle. I don’t know about most women, but engorgement is around the whole thing. I ordered 2 sets of them and used them all at once. They stay cool for quite a while too!

Nice idea

This kit was well thought out and many breastfeeding mothers will find it very handy. I have switched to pumping as it is easier with my schedule, but this kit is still very useful. My favorite items in the kit are the thermogel pads. Using them heated speeds up the let-down process better than massaging for me. I don’t necessarily need to use them cooled because since I’ve switched to pumping, I don’t really get sore. Still, it is soothing to use them cooled. The thermopads make the kit in my eyes. The sleeves are well made as well.As far as the pads, I did not care for them. I have been using Lansinoh pads from the beginning and I have never had a problem with those. With these Avent pads, the first time I used them my skin was irritated by the outer edge of the pads rubbing up against it. My skin turned red and became itchy. I used them again and did not have this problem; however I still prefer the Lansinoh pads as they are more comfortable. On the plus side, the Avent pads are just as absorbent as Lansinoh. I’ve just replaced the Avent pads with the others, no biggie. The reminder clip gets no use from me as I usually pump from both sides. If you are breastfeeding and have a newborn, the clip will definitely be handy. I remember those first few weeks being so hectic that I would forget everything. The feeding diary is cute, with pictures of mothers and their babies throughout. All of these things fit nicely into the well-designed bag, which is darker than pictured in real life. There is also a set of easy-to-follow directions included. All in all, this starter kit would make a great gift and is traveling-friendly. I’d say go for it but get Lansinoh pads instead.

Awesome set for breast feeding!

As a first time breast feeder I was excited to order this little kit. It had everything you needed to start out with and very helpful booklet and feeding log to keep track of feedings for those first few weeks when everything is a blur!

Erin Woodson, IL

The breast pads are awesome and really absorbent, bra clip is handy to have and the gel packs feel so nice on engorged or tender breast. Really great to get the milk flowing before pumping.

Mara Candor, NY

Make sure you order before the baby gets here.

I was not able to put all of the products to use because I did not order it early enough. But, I am saving them for the next baby! I gave it four stars because the side reminder ribbon is very hard to snap and un-snap. When you are trying to feed your baby and remember to switch the ribbon it almost requires two hands to get it un-snapped.

Great as a shower gift

This starter kit is full of the things you don’t realize you need until the baby has arrived. It comes packaged very nicely and modestly. It would be easy to tote around in the diaper bag and to use when necessary. The feeding journal is handy for the first few days until you get the hang of it, as well as the bra clip. Its easy to forget what side to start on and that comes in handy. The best part is the soft cover for the gel pack. It makes using the gel pack more comfortable, and I like that it is machine washable also.

Comfort and convenience in a little purple pouch.

For less than just the heating pads you get a bunch of useful stuff! Can’t beat that. The heating/cooling pads are a little larger than I thought they would be, but still work great. Their size also means that after I’m done nursing they can be used for others aches and pains. The pouch it all comes in it perfectly sized for an overnight bag or the diaper bag, and makes keeping all of mommy’s stuff separate easier. It even has a little divider. The diary is especially useful or those early days where it’s important to keep track of everything that goes in and everything that goes out, or for any women who has issues with supply or whose baby has issues with weight gain. The nursing pads are especially nice, particularly the extra-absorbent night time pads as any woman who has nursed has at some point or another laid in such a way as to make a big mess of her nighty, the blankets, and/or the bed as a whole due to the less frequent feedings while baby’s is (hopefully) asleep. The reminder pin is also handy for those early days when your life is comprised of nursing, napping, eating, and bathing and it all just sort o blurs together. Haha.

Great quality ice packs that you can use for things other than your breast. I have not used the reuseable pads but that is only because I happen to not leak, but they are of high quality so I highly recommend this product, great deal for the money.

So great for new moms!

These things helped soo much!! the cold to help with my new breastfeeding breasts that were super duper sore. The warm to help with getting milk flowing!!

Wilma Lebanon Junction, KY

I like giving this as a shower gift to expecting moms who are planning to breastfeed. I like the variety of products and cute carrying case.

Fran Lyon, MS

not practical but soothing

Warm and cold bags can’t be microwaved or soaked in water hotter than 50 Celsius, so it gets lukewarm at most and it cools down quite fast. Works better as a cold patch, but I rarely have use for it.

What a great idea!

As a cloth diapering mama, I really wanted to use cloth for myself while breastfeeding, but they just did not cut par – so for the last almost three+ years I guess I’ve been wearing disposable pads to keep my shirts and nightgowns clean and dry. This Set is an awesome idea and I do not know why it was not thought of before. I do think that it needs some tweaking, but it is a great start, and I’d still suggest it for a baby shower gift for that mama you know that’s getting started on her breastfeeding journey. My previous experience has been withLansinoh 20265 Disposable Nursing Pads, 60-pack.The night time pads are great, love the double sticky sides to keep them in place. The day time ones are adequate, but I would again prefer double sticky pads to attach it in two places instead of just one. The warming pad… the idea is awesome. Using it for cool is great and easy, but for warmth I had trouble getting it hot enough. You put in hot water to warm it, do not microwave it etc and it seemed to take forever to get warm, was never warm enough and then cooled very quickly. It was easier to just use a hot washcloth. I love the idea of it though, and think there is hope for it to be improved. As for the bra clip and feeding diary. Great things to help in the beginning. I used anItzbeen Baby Care Timer, Blue, but I think this would be much easier! Oh and lastly, LOVE the bag!

Very happy with this set!

I have a 2 year old daughter that I nursed and I would have LOVED this set to get me started and provide much needed relief. I am very happy to have it now as I am due in 8 weeks with our second child. The best thing in the set are the gel discs! I know I will be using them a lot in the first month. They warm up nicely and contour well around the nipple without sharp edges to poke you, this will help with let down. I liked how quickly they chilled in the fridge, starting at room temp, and will use them like this for soothing the fire nipples you get that first 2 weeks of breastfeeding, yowza! This will be a great step up from the bag of frozen peas :)I like the bag it all comes in, handy for small items in your diaper bag. The pin is nice too, you’d be shocked at how long baby brain lasts and it will help me remember which tata to use next. This set would be the perfect shower gift for the new mommy planning to nurse her baby!

Help for a New Breastfeeder

The Avent Breastfeeding Starter Kit is a great product. You get 12 daytime nursing pads, 6 nighttime nursing pads, 2 thermopads, a bra clip, and a nice case to hold all of it. The nursing pads are very comfortable and absorb excess milk really well while saving your shirt at the same time! The nighttime pads are a little thicker than the daytime ones, which is great for when I leak extra milk during the night. The thermopads really do help sore breasts and nipples feel some relief. I also like how the pads come with a washable cover to them so you don’t have to apply the heat or ice directly to the skin. The little bra clip is such a help because you tend to lose track of which side you used last as all the feedings blend together, especially those nighttime ones! The purple case is great to hold everything and is made of durable, thick material. Plus, when you’re done breastfeeding you can use it as a travel case.I highly recommend this product to any new mom. It would’ve been nice for them to include some nipple cream for nipple soreness also, but I’m still highly satisfied with what I got.

Wait and See/Possibly Skip

I got this because our instructor in our child birth class said breast soothers were a must, but this ended up being a waste of money for me. My baby ended up having feeding issues and I wasn’t able to breastfeed long. And when I did, I didn’t have much discomfort to warrant pulling these out. I also took them to the hospital for delivery, but ended up not using them at all.As for the product itself, the thermal gel pads really do help ease discomfort but only for a short time. The pads can be used as warm or cold, but it really wasn’t practical to put it in the freezer since I wasn’t sure which way I would need to use them next. Having a second set would have helped, but I didn’t use them enough to warrant buying it. Both cool and warm use instructions say to put them in a bowl of water. But this method only provides comfort for about 10 minutes before they need to be re-warmed/cooled. So I was constantly asking my husband to prepare them again while I took care of baby. The sleeves are very soft and soothing against sore nipples and provide a barrier of protection against the sudden warm/cool of the pads against the skin.Overall, the product is great and I recommend it, but only if you have enough discomfort to warrant using it several times a day. Also, wait and see how breastfeeding goes before buying them — you may not need them at all and you could use the money spent on this for other baby necessities!

Good gel pads

I like the set since it is convenient to have around. The gel pads are good, esp. the cover that is provided that you can put the gel pad in. I don’t like the disposable pads, they gave me a lot of skin irritation, I had to throw them out. I do use the diary to keep track of feedings more than when I pump.
