A very good car seat, but it lacks some nice features.
The Safety 1st Summit Booster car seat is very nice and does the job. It is soft and nicely cushioned. The material wipes clean easily with a wipe from milk or spit up. The arm rests are not padded, but are a sturdy plastic. The harness and car seat easily adjust to grow with your child. You can use this booster seat from 22-100 lbs. it also has a cup holder.Although the design is nice and the features are helpful, they fall a little short. This booster seat still only has the seat belt system, but the newer latch system to secure the seat to the car. The head area offers less protection in the event of an accident. The head could easily move around, since there is no padding or support system to minimize head trauma. It is light weight and useful for older babies and children, but for the cost I just wish it could do more.Ultimately, I think you should spend just a little more money and get theSafety 1st Complete Air 65 SE Protect Convertible Car Seat.
Ideal for one to four year olds
This is an attractive, sturdy, flexible and well-made car seat/booster seat for children ages 1 or older. From the picture, I thought the seat base was optional. It isn’t, and although it is possible to remove the seat from the base by sliding out a metal bar, it isn’t usable that way. The base provides extra height and a sturdier base, protecting the car’s seats – some of our other car seat models have left permanent grooves in our car’s seats. The base also adds width – the total width including cup holder is about 19.5″; the cup holder needs to slide out for use and adds another 2″ in width on the child’s left side. This seat can fit a child one year old or older weighing from 22 lbs up 100 lbs. It cannot be used rear-facing, but we prefer smaller infant car seats for babies. This car seat is very adjustable; the shoulder belts adjust vertically by pulling on a metal bar in the back and sliding the whole headrest up or down to one of 4 different heights. The bottom belt connector is a little harder to adjust but can be moved to any of 3 positions by tilting the seat back and sliding out the metal brace underneath the slots. The tilt feature allows the seat to be used very slightly reclined or slightly reclined, but only with the built-in seat belts. I think the car’s seat back would also have to be reclined for the seat to fit correctly, but we don’t use it this way because sleeping children can lean on the sides of the car seat. The car seat is nicely padded and comfortable. My 2 year old can buckle herself, but the round release button is too hard for her to unbuckle (which can be good or bad depending on how you look at it!). There are also a couple small slots in the base on each side for storing small items, though they are hard for a child to reach. The fixed height arm rests pivot up and down for easy entry and have a soft but firm rubber grip feel.As with all new car seats, you can use the car’s seat belts or a LATCH system to attach the car seat in the vehicle. The car seat comes with all necessary belts for a LATCH system including the top strap. It doesn’t come with a metal clip for very old cars without locking seat belts, but these can easily be obtained online (or from friends with older car seats). This seat does have a holder on the back for storing a metal clip if you get one. With the built-in belts it could just fit my 5-year old 48″ tall child; any taller and you must use the car belt around the child and seat. At 40lbs (about 4 years old) you are supposed to switch to the belt-positioning booster mode instead of using the car seat’s belts. This is a heavier car seat, so I am not completely comfortable doing that because the seat adds weight to the child pressing against the belt in an accident. I am not sure why, but the manual says not to use the LATCH system to hold the seat in place separately while using the belt-positioning booster. In booster mode, the car seat can fit a very large child up to 100 lbs (though we never use car seats that long). Besides the adjustable seat back height, the shoulder guides slide up and down for even more flexibility. This seat does not have a detachable back, so for our larger children we use a lighter booster with a detachable back; the back is helpful for sleeping children or to guide the shoulder belt, but for larger children it is easier to just have the booster without the back.So while this is a flexible seat and can be used for larger children, for us this is an excellent, attractive car seat ideal for our 1 to 4 year olds.
The adjustments of the car seat make this booster seat stand out from the rest.
Needed a booster seat for my grandson that will grow with him until he can use a regular seat belt and this booster car seat fits the bill. It has numerous adjustments as you child grows so it will always fit him as it should. The seat is easy to install and is a bit narrower than most seats which is a plus as most child booster seats are big and bulky. This seat is taller in the back than most seats but you can still see over it in the rear view mirror. It is well constructed and sturdy and the cushions are comfortable.\But most of all my grandson loves the cup holder and the adjustable arms. The adjustable arms also make it easier to get your child in and out of the seat without straining. A great feature! All in all this is an excellent booster seat and the price is right.
This seat is comfortable and has some very convenient features, including the 5-point harness, which is not standard on most booster seats. Armrests that slide up or down make it easier to get my son in the seat, and the top seatbelt slots adjust up and down with a click and a slide behind the seat – no horrible seatbelt threading as he grows. The seat is very heavy, which makes it more difficult to move around, but I suppose it’s probably safer for the same reason. It has slots that are easy to move up and down if you choose to use the regular car seatbelt over the booster when your kid is big enough, but I don’t know why you’d choose this – we like the 5-point harness because it is so much safer. Good booster!
nice booster, but absolutely HUGE
I originally got this booster seat thinking I could replace a britax marathon and it would make it easier to fit this booster and two other regular boosters across in the back seat. The Britax Marathon is one of the bulkiest carseats I’ve seen, so I figured anything would be an improvement. Big surprise then that this is even bigger than the Marathon. That’s right – the booster seat is bigger than a car seat.It does have all the features you’d want – latch, five and three point harnesses, adjustable harness height, etc. It also has a large range of kids it can handle – it’ll take everything from a 22 lb 2 year old to a 100 lb grade schooler.
Nice basic front-facing car seat and booster!
Very nice car seat and booster seat. I love how easily it adjusted (shoulder straps) and how easy it was to install. It has a built-in cup holder and still remains fairly narrow and trim. It fits in the middle seat of our van bench without crowding the other two seats. Wipes clean with a damp washcloth and freshens up nicely. The only negative about this car seat is that the built-in harness only goes up to 40 lbs. After 40 lbs it only works as a belt-positioning booster. However, it should take my 3 year old through her remaining years of needing a car seat. She loves her new seat and usually wants to do up the chest clip herself. I double-check that it clicks tight afterward. It’s comfortable for long car trips. It is tall, which can be hard to see over in the rear-view mirror, but any booster seat that goes up to 100 lbs needs to be tall to protect the child. It’s a nice car seat for the price!
Nice car seat with nice convenience features
This is a nice looking and nicely built (for the most part) car seat. The cushion is nice and soft and the armrests are a nice touch although I think they might become more of a toy since they can move up and down. The bottom has a recline feature which helps fit it into a car just right and it also helps to remove the straps for booster seat conversion. One of the great features is that the straps move up with the headrest as you adjust for size. My Graco does not do that and you have to take the straps out when you raise the headrest.Installation is pretty standard, but be warned this will not fit in all cars as a booster. My wife has a CRV and the seatbelt is unreachable when converted into booster seat mode. We have found that several of these multifunction seats are that way with her car. I imagine others are the same.My biggest complaint would be the buckle. While I don’t think a child could open it, it seems like it is too cheaply made. It is plastic that clasps together and just does not feel sturdy to me- although it will probably be fine over time.Overall a really nice carseat that has some conveniences for resizing and adjusting that other car seats do not.
Slim, sturdy, and easy to install
This is a very nice booster and belt-positioning car seat.It was very easy to install. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, and everything adjust very easily, which is always a nice thing in a car seat.I love the the cup holder slides into the base for storage. With two car seat in my backseat it is difficult to have car seats where the cup holders stick out – it makes for a tight fit.My son love the “big boy” arm rests. This also transitions easily from “car seat” to belt positioning booster, meaning that this is likely the last car seat you will need to buy.
Worth the money!
I think this is a very nice car seat and booster seat.It was very easy to install with clear instructions that were easy to follow. It adjusts easily, and my grandson thinks the arm rest that move up and down are the best. I like this feature because it makes it easier to get him in and out. Another feature is the cup holder that slides in and out of the base. I also like the harness as it seems much safer that the previous system we used. Because this seat transitions easily it will likely be the last car seat you need for your child.
