Sealy Soybean Foam-Core
I just recently purchased this mattress after a lot of research. In my search I had a hard time deciding whether this mattress was truly organic and without chemicals. The cover is made of vinyle-laminate which is the only part of this mattress thats makes it not completely organic. Sealy does however state that the cover although vinyl-laminate is phthalate and flammability compliant and does not contain toxic fire retardants. Sealy makes the exact same mattress called the Sealy Soybean Foam-Core Dream which is made with a cotton cover. I was able to find this mattress at Bed Bath & Beyond and Buy Buy Baby websites fot about 160$ plus shipping. Sealy’s website is also helpful at […]. I am overall happy with this mattress and its practicality. Here are the specs from Sealys web site:
• Soy based foam-core offers improved durability over conventional foams and uses renewable resources resulting in the use of less crude oils.
• Soybean foam is CertiPUR-US certified and has been tested for indoor air emissions, durability and substances including phthalates, formaldehyde, PBDEs, lead and other chemicals
• Entire cover and lock-stitched binding wipe clean preventing allergens from clinging to the mattress
• Lightweight making it easy to change sheets
• Soybeans are a renewable resource grown in the USA
• Cover is wet-resistant and cleans easily
• Square cut corners provides snug fit in cribs
• Mattress also fits toddler bed frames
• Lifetime warranty on workmanship and materials

firm, not bouncy
I bought a 150 coil spring mattress for my son before he was born, after two years it is no longer supportive (he does love to jump before going to bed and after waking up). This mattress was the best one I could find in my desired price range. I was worried a foam mattress would be mushy, which is why I bought a coil mattress before.I liked what the other reviewers said about this mattress, so I decided to risk it. I was worried when I picked up the box because it was so light, but I was pleasantly surprised. This mattress is firm. And when I say firm, I don’t mean to say that it is hard… it is more like the foam is very dense. I can’t think of an exact comparison… maybe a piece of cake vs. a brownie (this would be a brownie). And my favorite part: no jumping! It isn’t bouncy like a coil mattress. Mwahahaha!
Great firm mattress for moms paranoid about SIDS
I ordered this mattress not because I am extremely eco to the point of buying organic soy everything, but because it seemed to be one of the firmer, more high-quality mattresses. (I know it’s paranoid, but I don’t want to take any risks with my baby suffocating.) I ordered it with free Prime shipping through the Amazon Mom deal, and it arrived in 2 days.It appears to be excellent quality. It is indeed nice and firm, and seems durable and well-made. It has a kind of plastic casing, but it isn’t a loose or crinkly plastic casing, it’s a nice material that will simply make the mattress easy to clean if the baby’s diaper leaks or he spits up. There is no strange smell or anything. From the photos, I was afraid the mattress was going to be really thin, but it is actually quite thick, probably a good 6 inches. But it’s still nice and light to move or flip over.I also ordered the Stork Craft Tuscany 4-in-1 Stages Crib, and the mattress fits perfectly in that crib, really snugly with no gaps whatsoever.
Tested by Baby
I am giving this mattress a five star rating, because, even though my three month old son won’t sleep the night in his crib, he has at least stopped bawling whenever I put him down in it since I replaced his old mattress with the Sealy Soybean Foam-Core Crib Mattress. The mattress is firm and sturdy without feeling like a board and sheets go on easily. The squared off edges create a snug fit thus eliminating any gaps between mattress and crib frame. The fact that my son will even nap on this thing earns a thumbs up from me!ETA 2013 Over three years later and this mattress is still going strong. Great investment!
Fits almost perfectly in the DaVinci Kalani Convertible Crib
Our baby girl hasn’t arrived yet, so I can’t give 5 stars really. However, the mattress fits extremely well in the DaVinci Kalani crib; so I just wanted to put that on here in case other parents were curious.
There are a few high quality items you want to invest in with a baby; this is one of them
We made the mistake of getting a less expensive mattress at first. It seemed fine but I started to think about a better mattress for a number of reasons. Would it help our daughter sleep better, would it be better for her health? I also realized a crib mattress is going to be used for years. Many cribs convert to a toddler bed and you still use a crib mattress. We have a foam mattress and the idea of a foam mattress appealed to me. We have been very happy since getting this mattress. Our daughter is sleeping much more freqently through the night. That makes the mattress worth it for that alone. Better for us, better for her. So I do highly recommend this. And a few other things you will want to invest in. One is a good thermomter. Cheap ones will just frustrate you and you will go through them and end up spending as much as you would have for a good one. We use this one:Braun Thermoscan Ear Thermometer with ExacTemp TechnologyAgain $40 that will seem a bargin. Also not that expensive but more than worth every penny:Nosefrida The Snotsucker Nasal AspiratorThe best ‘gross’ thing you will ever buy. And it isn’t gross, the snot never gets close to you BUT it does get out.Get these 3 things, you will be off to a great start.
I really like the mattress. It’s nice and firm while still being comfortable. My son sleeps great on it. In fact now that I think about it he started sleeping through the night when we finally put him in his crib on this mattress.Update 4/18/12Here we go again 🙂 we just bought this mattress again for our number two. The first one we bought that my son sleeps on is still in perfect condition after a year of sleep on it. There are no sags or dents. I love it still! I was a little worried about his comfort being that it’s not fabric but that hasn’t bothered him at all. The fact that it is not fabric has been amazing. Super fast clean up for the middle of the night diaper explosions or vomiting… you know the drill.
Great price and eco-friendly
I love this mattress. It’s reasonably priced, eco-friendly, and is a perfect fit for the Babyletto 3-in-1 crib. I also purchased the American Baby Company Organic Waterproof Quilted Crib Mattress Pad Cover, which is a great addition.
Just what I wanted!
When visiting my nephew, my sister-in-law asked if I would put the mattress protector and sheet on my nephews crib mattress while she changed him before his nap. I was happy to help, but it was a lot more work than I anticipated! The mattress they had was really heavy and thus hard to maneuver. I couldn’t imagine having to do that once or twice a day like they were having to.When I became pregnant I knew I would be looking for a lightweight mattress. After reading many reviews I purchased this one. This mattress fits the bill! It is nice and lightweight and changing the mattress protector/sheets is much easier than with my nephew’s mattress.
Been using this for 2 years
We put our daughter on this when she was about 5 months and had started rolling around in her sleep in her bassinet. It is quite firm, which was good when she was younger so she could easily breathe while laying on her stomach. She slept through the night just fine on it. Now that she is 2 years old we’ve had to "pad" the mattress with a thick, soft blanket under her sheets to soften her sleeping surface a little bit. She seems to have stayed a pretty good sleeper though, sleeping 10-12 hours a night. I don’t know if that is because of the mattress, but I can’t say it isn’t either.
I had a more traditional mattress with my first child, 4 years ago. It did the job, but was incredibly heavy. When researching a replacement mattress for the new baby, I came across this product. We have been very happy with it after almost 6 months of use. After reading reviews about a smell, we were careful to let the mattress air out before taking it into the nursery. However, we did not notice any smell. We chose to let it air out anyway just to be safe. As an additional measure against SIDS, I follow the New Zealand recommendations for mattress wrapping with a polyethylene wrap that vents below the crib. This forces any harmful off-gassing away from my child, plus provides a barrier against bacterial growth. The mattress is comfortable, but firm. The baby sleeps great on it. Probably my favorite thing about the mattress is how light it is. It makes changing the sheets a breeze.
It’s a mattress, does the job
While I can’t speak to this mattress compared to any others, I’ve had one for 2 years and just received a second for my baby on the way. It is firm without being hard. I definitely like the foam versions of kid mattresses. I did notice the latest mattress seems to fit much tighter than my original one, but this could be just from use. It fits in my pottery barn cribs very well, and leaves 0 gap. Another plus is that it isn’t super heavy so changing sheets is easy. Overall, no negatives that I see.
I’m not sure what I was expecting when I bought this, but I wasn’t expecting a super lightweight plastic mattress when I clicked-to-buy it for $100. I’m also not sure where the soybean is, I assume that’s part of the foam interior. When we opened the box and my wife saw and felt it, she gave me one of those looks that says, "I can’t believe you bought this crap!" You know what? If YOU want to pick all the toddler’s stuff, you make the purchases! I made my choice and purchase based on overwhelmingly good reviews here. We ended-up keeping it because she wasn’t in a fighting mood that evening. My wife put a pad on top, underneath the fitted sheet and it’s worked great. Our son had one accident on it and that cleaned-up easily (because it’s plastic) and he seems to sleep on it very well. As for "the look" I got when we opened the box, I’m still waiting on a retraction from her. Still waiting…
Fits well, firm and lightweight
Our son has been sleeping on this mattress since he was about 6 weeks old. He is now 18 months old. It fits perfectly in his crib (a JCPenney closeout item). It is quite firm, but he seems comfortable enough with a mattress pad and a sheet covering it. It is extremely lightweight so it’s a breeze to change the sheet. It has a little bit of a plastic smell when first removed from the plastic covering, but after some airing out, it seems fine. We would purchase this mattress again.
Perfect Fit with the DaVinci Jenny Lind Convertible Crib
We wanted an organic mattress or something similar and after doing some more research, decided that the green guard certification was most important. Nice and firm with a wipeable surface (important I’ve been told, haha). A lot of the organic mattresses we were looking at basically just had an organic cotton surface, what’s the point of that?
really comfy, breathable, lightweight
Baby is 2 months and two weeks. He has been sleeping in his crib now for about a month and a half. He loves it and I like it too. We have a full-size Emily DaVinci crib and it fits perfectly snug. It’s firm but supportive. It breathes well too which is important where I live (in the South summer heat). It is light and easy to switch sheets. Also after airing a few days (as with and new product) it had no factory smell at all.
I bought this on the advice from the book “Baby Bargains.” I was so overwhelmed, and was glad they recommended it as a “good” buy.It is VERY firm. My mom thought it might be too firm, but I told her that’s what they recommend these days, so I take that as a positive. The coating on it is very thick, i don’t see it getting damaged, but will probably get a mattress protector anyway.Haven’t had the baby on it yet, but it appears to be a solid, quality product and VERY FIRM, which was the concern we had.
A Great Buy
I’ve done a ton of research on organic mattresses. The costs are very high. I was not partial to a foam mattress but mine arrived today and I’m very impressed. The mattress is very light. Once out of the package, it actually looks like a coiled mattress. Also, no worries about the firmness of the mattress, it is very firm for baby. I’m very impressed and very glad I bought it!
Great infant mattress!
Love this mattress! super lightweight, easy to clean if an accident happens, and fits very well in the crib. Our son falls right asleep every night and doesn’t spend much time if any at all trying to get comfortable. For the price it’s well worth buying!
After much research this mattress came highly recommended. It fits perfectly in our baby’s crib and we are very happy with it.
Thought it would be firmer
Great mattress.. fits perfectly into our baby letto Modo 3 in 1 crib. Not sure how "firm" a baby mattress has to be..but I personally thought it was a tad bit on the soft side?
Hard as a rock, but still sags in the middle
We had a regular spring mattress but it sagged in the middle. Since our baby loved sleeping on our foam mattress, I thought we’d get a foam core mattress for her crib. We didn’t expect the vinyl cover to be so hard. For a bed that was so hard, it still sagged in the middle where we needed to put a piece of plywood under the mattress to keep her from rolling face down into the middle. It’s a chore to get her to sleep in her own crib, no matter how many crib covers we put on it. We’ve had to resort to getting a foam overlay which seems to make her a little happier. Even I thought this bed is too plastic with no give. I wouldn’t recommend this mattress to a friend. For our next crib for our second child, we’re not making the same mistake again.
Love this mattress for my newborn! It is very firm! I even payed on it and tested the firmness of it. The price was great too!
Perfect fit and without springs
I needed one with no coils and found third one….it fits perfectly on my crib and is pretty good..I got this for just $95 and would definitely recommend …
Good for the money
For the money it is a good mattress. It did not have an odor when I opened it but I still let it air out. This is a firm mattress.
Good for the price
My baby sleeps well in this. I would love to have an memory foam mattress for him but I don’t think they’re legal because they’re too soft. So, this is the closest thing at a decent price. He’s peed on it a few times and it’s been very easy to clean and then air-dry. It is a bit firm so could contribute a bit to flat head syndrome so make sure the baby’s sleeping on alternate sides of his head as you put him in back-sleeping posture.
I’ve had this mattress for 15 months now (for my firstborn baby) and still do not have a single complaint. It’s lightweight, no plastic-y smell upon arrival, fits the crib perfectly, and is not too firm or too soft. I think this is a great choice for ‘green’ mamas and daddies.
new crib mattress
We read many reviews on crib mattresses and materials of mattresses. We wanted the crib and bedding to be good for him, After reading many reviews we chose the Sealy soybean mattress and have had it just 2 days but we are so happy with the fit, the quality, the look and feel aand baby slept well on his new mattress.
So far so good
I had difficulties to find a good mattress for my baby, too many mattress, too many bad or good reviews,I spent a lot of time reading the reviews and I have decided to buy this one, wasn’t sure but I needed to choose one.it has been 4 months and so far so good.my baby sleeps very well ,it is not soft, not hard.i am happy about this mattress .
I like that this mattress is very firm and has square corners that fit snugly in the crib (we have a Graco Shelby crib). Standard crib sheets seem to fit it OK (a little small).
