- Troubleshooting Guide in Technical Details
For the most part, this monitor is fine. It’s small and unobtrusive, it’s cute and functional. HOWEVER there is a critical flaw that will prevent me from ever actually using it: as soon as I plugged the transmitter in (the part that goes in the baby’s room) I could hear a loud, very high pitched sound. I know if that sound was in **MY** room when **I** was trying to sleep, it would drive me absolutely nuts. There’s no way I’m going to have it on in baby’s room–I don’t want to bother her and if she doesn’t sleep soundly, then neither will I.Disclaimer: my ears hear high sounds much better than most everyone I know. There’s a good chance you will plug your monitor in and not hear a thing. I suspect the manufacturer has no idea it is even there. It is also possible that mine is a defect and the others don’t do this. HOWEVER, it is important to note that almost across the board, young children hear higher sounds than adults (because as you age, high pitched sounds are the first to go). This means that just because you don’t hear anything doesn’t mean your baby won’t. Just something to think about…
The speakers hiss constantly, so I can’t even hear my child. Why would you buy a monitor just to listen to hissing white noise all night?
As good as most, no better
At this point, there seem to be plenty of good choices for audio monitors. Sound is very clear and very sensitive, the battery charge is great, although admittedly I haven’t needed to max out the parent unit. The green display lights on parent unit are bright enough to keep you up, so I appreciate the option to turn them off.Other reviewers have commented on the problems that are shared among the various brands. We have used the Vtech monitor and been happy with that. This is just slightly more costly, but adds a few features such as the temperature monitor, which I like. Knowing what I know now, I’d spring for this model to get that added function. But if you’re very price sensitive, the Vtech is priced lower and does just as well with clear audio monitoring. My only real complaint on this monitor is that the buttons for power on/off and volume control beep very loudly. The beeps haven’t woken my son, but I easily imagine lighter sleepers rousing. And it’s just a bit annoying/disturbing to parents.
Great monitor that does the important stuff well
I’ve got four kids and I’ve had the chance to try a whole range of sound and video monitors. I find that I generally use the sound monitors most, but I’ve sometimes find it handy to have a video monitor for certain stages (such as a sick baby who might throw-up or need extra watching, a baby going through a “noisy sleep” phase, and toddlers transitioning to a bed who might “get up quietly” to play instead of sleep). Most of the time what you want to know is: are they awake or crying and what is the temp in their room? This monitor gives you that, along with good battery life, great range, and a private digital connection. Summer has been building monitors for years and they do a pretty good job. The two-way talking option isn’t that important, but on rare occasions I have been able to sooth a baby just by talking to them. Most of the time that is not going to hack it, but hearing you say “I’m coming” may help keep things from escalating. Overall a great product that I can recommend easily.
Summer Baby Wave Deluxe Digital Audio Monitor
Very nice basic monitorworks well without breaking the bankcan be used for more than just a baby monitorcame in handy when one child was sickand has to stay in their room so that others would not get sick as wellcould still be part of the rest of what was going onand could hear when needed to tend to themwithout having to keep checking on themthey could just talk right into the monitor and say when needed somethinglove the two way feature on thiscan use it for soothing the infant or talking to the older childthe temp monitor is helpful to know if the room is too hot or coldto help in keeping the infant or child comfortable
A good inexpensive monitor
So far monitor seems to work as promised, audio is crisp and clear, and is sensitive enough to pick up lower sounds, which is nice. The only issue Ive found is the replacement battery compartment is kind of cheaply made, and can easily break, with very little force.. other then that a great buy..
