Better than expected . . .
After reading reviews of seemingly every video monitor system on the market, it became apparent that they all have their fans and their detractors. I was afraid to spend too much money on something that might not work well, but I still wanted a “quality” device, so I opted for this one. I have to say I have been very pleasantly surprised. The picture is clear, and the sound doesn’t bother me at all — maybe because I live in the city and am used to noise, but to me it’s just a gentle white noise. Also, you can turn the sound off and just keep the picture (or vice versa) if you want. When my baby cries, the sound is crisp and clear. Basically, this monitor works exactly as advertised, nothing fancy, just an easy way to keep an eye on your baby at all times. I live in an apartment building and was worried about static and interference, but so far, none (I’ve been using it for about three weeks). Highly recommended.*UPDATE 1/7/12* We’ve been using this monitor almost daily for over 2 years now and still have no complaints or issues. Definitely recommended.
Great Baby Video Monitor
We have been perfectly happy with this video monitor. It works well day or night. We have only had some interference issues when there was construction on the road next to our house… but otherwise, we haven’t had any trouble. Our neighbors have a different Summer monitor and we haven’t had any issues with seeing each other’s homes or anything. Our four year old loves to go up and talk with our one year old when he awakens from his nap, and I can listen in/watch while finishing up making lunch! Video monitors are a great idea! Just wish it didn’t take up so much counter space…
the blob and the fuzz ate my baby
In this day and age a hundred bucks should get you more than whatever the heck that is! I bought this item to monitor my son when he is in other areas of the house. The sound of static is constant and the video quality is almost completely useless. I am returning this item today.
I LOVE this video monitor. The best part about it is the price. The screen is a tube tv but its very light and I think this is all you need as far as a monitor goes. It has volume so you can hear the baby and the volume is sensitive enough you dont have to have it very loud. There is a button on top of the screen you can push if you dont want the screen on but you can still hear the baby, and if the baby starts fussing just hit that button and the screen comes back up. No need to purchase those big expensive monitors.
Monitor is a little bulky if you have little space for it, but it works very well and I am so glad I got it.
Eh. There has to be a better one.
I got this one because of the price. Yes, it is cheap. But I find that at our house (in the city and near other houses) there is just constant interference. It pops, hisses and goes snowy. And the interference is loud enough to wake you up…repeatedly…all night. We tried the other channel, removing electronics from near it and nothing makes it better. After about 6 months we have turned it off for the most part and use our audio monitor for sound. if we need to look we turn it on, but otherwise we don’t use it that much due to the interference. We can see the baby though the way we mounted the camera we can’t see the whole crib from about 3-4 feet above the crib.I would not recommend this to a friend. For the money you spend you could just spend a bit more and get a better one.
This was the 4th monitor we tried in about the span of a week and a half. We had the Lorex LiveSNAP, Levana BabyView, and the Infant Optics video monitor. We actually used the Lorex one for several months, but it always interfered with our WiFi connection. If the monitor was on, we’d constantly be booted off the internet (and yes, we tried changing the router channels but to no avail) and finally my Call of Duty playing husband finally couldn’t take it anymore and told me to buy a new one. So I tried the Infant Optics one next. It was great, but it couldn’t be on at all if we wanted to use wireless internet. The third, the Levana (purchased from Amazon) arrived non-functioning and dirty and clearly used so we returned it without trying it. Finally, we tried this one today. It’s old school as far as video monitors go (no color, little knobs on the back to adjust the picture – just like an older TV) and the picture isn’t as crisp and the audio is way too sensitive (it’s super loud on the lowest setting) but I can have it on and be on the internet at the same time. I can see my baby, and surf the net while he’s asleep and the hubs can play his Xbox without getting booted off constantly and that’s all we ever wanted. We are willing to sacrifice bells & whistles to achieve that so we’re happy. (By the way, the issue is 95% of the video monitors out there are 2.4GHZ are as most wireless routers, when they both try to operate on the same frequency it doesn’t work out). Additionally, I’m purchasing a warranty thru Square Trade to avoid the headache of it breaking down on me.
Good for the price
We have been using this monitor since our son was born four months ago, and I’ve been pretty pleased with it. It’s a pretty bare bones monitor, but I couldn’t justify putting a $150+ monitor on our registry nor paying for one. We leave the monitor on my side of the bed and with the volume turned up I can hear Baby fussing in his nursery. At night I turn the video off until I hear him stirring, and then I can turn it on quickly to see whether he’ll fall back asleep. We’ve had no issues with static or interference; the picture is good as is the sound quality. If you’re looking for a basic video monitor, you can’t go wrong with this one.UPDATE 9/27/2013: Last month, after about 14 months of use, the sound on this monitor stopped working, rendering the monitor unusable for us. I am disappointed it didn’t last longer. I hope that by the time we have a second baby video monitors will have come down in price and improved in quality.

Better than the older model
I had the older model of Summer Infant Day and Night Video Monitor from 5 years ago and it was always making annoying staticy sounds and had a lot of interference problems. When that one quit and I needed a new monitor I bought it again because it’s the cheapest option for a video monitor that’s not a handheld. I was pleasantly surprised because we do not have any interference issues with this model or crazy static noise so they definitely improved it! The picture is good, I can see what she’s up to and hear her well in case she needs me in the middle of the night.
I wish I had bought it sooner
I really love this monitor. I have been uncomfortable ever since I moved my son into his own room because I can’t SEE what’s making him cry. Has he got an arm or leg caught or is he just crying because he doesn’t want to go to sleep? Now I enjoy watching him go to sleep with this great monitor. My husband and I watch and laugh as he plays with his stuffed rabbit and watches his hang on aquarium toy until he falls asleep. It’s this great window into that part of his world. It’s really so comforting to me and I wish I had bought it several months ago when we made the transition to putting him to sleep in his own room. A great product. The picture is super clear during the day and still quite clear at night. The only issue I have with it is that it doesn’t have a subtle “dial” volume control but more of a push button type and the lowest volume is still really loud. I would prefer to fine tune the volume more but other than that, no complaints.
This is great! It is big, but that’s an advantage because the screen size is big so I can easily see my son! There is no static noise and I’ve used it in many different locations at my home and take it when we travel. I’ve never had a problem with it at anyone elses house either. The sound quality is great. The picture is clear both day and night! It’s not portable, but the portable ones have such small screens. I prefer this with the larger screen! A tremendous value for the price! I would buy it again and again and again!!!!!
Paranoid Mommy’s Dream!
Awesome camera, great sound, great picture, very durable, very affordable, wonderful product! As the paranoid first-timer, I was scared my little man would stop breathing due to SIDS…rolling over…pulling the cover over his head…being too close to a pillow…etc..etc..etc.! I am SO GLAD we have the video instead of just sound. We co-sleep, so when he naps it is in our bed as well – he tends to roll and twist in his sleep but if I use a wedge he just gets angry he can’t move and wakes up! Unfortunately, he hasn’t ever been a swaddle baby. This has saved us lots of stress and lets our little guy sleep in peace. We have used it for about 8 months now. I use it constantly. It has been through all kinds of abuse. The baby has snagged the camera a few times to put it through his own tests and the monitor has been knocked off the arm of the couch or table by one of our cats many, many, times…it keeps on working great. Extremely durable and very clear picture. I will be getting my friends these for their baby showers!
Very cool feature; some glitches
The crib is located upstairs, but most of our activity is downstairs or in the garage, so we wanted to not only hear, but see the baby to know for certain we need to attend to him, or if he’s just playing/dreaming. This monitor does all of that for us. It’s nice to turn the video off at night and use as an audio monitor, too. The screen is fairly clear, can be a little blurry, and sometimes when it first wakes up, the image tracks before settling; and it doesn’t always settle perfectly. But we can still see the baby and that’s what’s important. I am really impressed with the nighvision, so that when the baby is sleeping in a very dark room, we can still see him clearly like the room is lit up. That is very impressive. The sound is good, too, it’s very clear.Install is very easy and the monitor can go anywhere. Reception is great, too, picking up all over the house, even through two floors.Overall, this is a great monitor for the price, it’s just the image tracking that isn’t ideal.
